Cyrus slowly walks to the pool of water. He crouches down and reaches inside the cool water to grasp the necklace…but cannot. He paw passes through what appears to be a necklace.
Cyrus stands up and looks to Starker quizzically. Then collapses. After hitting the ground he fades out of existence.
This can only mean that Cyrus suffered a fatal harm. Had he been a non-magical spider monkey he would be dead forever. Let us go back to our comrades and tell them the lesson so dearly bought.
Head back to party. Ritual up Crow Magnon XVII, a new raven version of my familiar. Send him 100’ in air above our position, sharing his senses. Try quickly and inconspicuously to get a holistic sense of mazy circle geometry and theology. Try to spot dragon, hoard, or nest.
A character can use a component pouch or a spellcasting focus(found in “Equipment”) in place of the components specified for a spell. But if a cost is indicated for a component, a character must have that specific component before he or she can cast the spell.
The hedge of thorny plants rises 15’ high in front of you. There are pathways leading through it. Beyond this hedge you see a hill covered in roots and vines rising in the center of the circle of hedge.
At one point in CM’s exploration he saw a path lead into the center of the hedge. The hedge ended and turned into swamp with low, twisted trees.
There are several branches to the “left” that CM did not take during his “right paw to the wall” exploration.
“Mage Starker, I am sorry that you have lost your tiny friend! If I could, I would assist Cyrus.”
”Based on your reports of his investigation and the attempt to gather the necklace in the pool, I suspect that this place is fabricated by magic and clearly deadly.”
”I suggest we either find a way to dispel this illusion or take a more direct root.”
Hoid has the most hit points, advantage on poison saves and speaks draconic. He is probably well suited to be the tip of the spear right up until actual negotiations start, if we do that.
Unfortunately. this instantiation of Cyrus (the sixteenth, if we are keeping track) died too quickly for me to perform an investigation or a vivisection, and the nature of familiars is such that autopsies are never possible.
Climbing one of the short, twisted trees does not offer much more information. There is the thorny hedge. Inside this is a ring of trees. Inside this is an open area and the hill of vines/roots.
Cyrus, if things go badly I will immediately send you to your secret, safe, place. Please go get the necklace.

CON save = 5
Starker rushes to Cyrus’ side. Is he breathing?
(( Reread Find Familiar. Updated last post. ))
Oops.

[Thought this was glowy ball thingy campaign rather than eye of newt campaign, but no problem. Cancel call for CM XVII.]

[No worries]

I am fresh outta monkeys. I got nothing.
Anyone feeling stealthy?

”do you know what afflicted your familiar?”

Edit: but heavy armor makes stealth a challenge.

Chadwick not really understanding what happened to Cyrus says a short prayer for him. He seems a bit distraught with his passing.
Are there any trees that someone not wearing heavy armor could climb to get a better view of the maze?
If the tree scouting won't work Chadwick agrees with Hoid on trudging forth to brute force it.

All, made a suggestion on go forward in the OOC chat.
