Chadwick and Hoid are at the T-intersection. The hall to the left dead ends a short distance away in a blank stone wall. The hall to the right is noticeably warmer. There is a circular room beyond the hall with a dull red glow.
The hall ends into a large circular chamber. In the center of the room is a pool of lava, gently bubbling. Like the previous room, there is an island in the lava pool covered in gold and silver coins. A large emerald sits atop the pile of treasure. The air here is dry and hot with a hint of sulfur fumes. Unlike the last room, there is no walkway to the island.
So each time we take treasure something bad happens. While the experience is good, maybe we should just ignore the treasure for now? Perhaps later we'll need to use the gems to unlock another piece of puzzle?
As I wrote this out it does seem more probable that will need them for something. So let's vote; should we leave them be for now, or gather as we go? We may risk the traps resetting, so I'm going to vote for gather as we go.
“I am the wizard Xagyg. You have been called together to be tested. Find the keys to gain your freedom from the testing ground. Success will earn you a reward, and, the possibility of future work. I am Xagyg!”
Makes me think the gems are the keys, so sticking with my vote to gather as we go.
Also noticed that in the Lava room, there is no footpath to get to the center and the emerald gem. That means we will have to throw Hoid and hope he is able to stick the landing!!
I was thinking Gary Gnu might be an easier chuck, but checking the character sheets looks like he is at one HP. Is that accurate? Did he get his rest HP yet?
Go ahead and take a short rest if you like. Roll the appropriate hit dice if you spend them and recover spells
I will follow the parties lead and unload the 500 gold coins back at the center of the pool.
Chadwick, Hoid and Kragen have offloaded the coins gathered in the previous room.
Gneuman still has his.
I'll take point since I've got a decent AC. After the rest of the party gets lined up, I'll head right at the intersection.

Well the seems inviting after the dampness. Once the rest of the party catches up, we'll head that way.
We can always circle back to the dead end and look for secret doors later.

I’ve taken the liberty to move everyone.
Anyone else suspect that the gems may be some clues to a broader puzzle? Diamond, Sapphire and now and Emerald?
Could be, but no ideas as to what the puzzle might be.

From the first room;
“I am the wizard Xagyg. You have been called together to be tested. Find the keys to gain your freedom from the testing ground. Success will earn you a reward, and, the possibility of future work. I am Xagyg!”

Anyone notice the the Wizards name is Gary Gygax in reverse.
I am in alignment on the gems potentially being keys to gain our freedom.

How far is it from the ledge to the center?
Each square on the map is 5'. So, it is 10 feet across the lava.
(( Xagyg is Gygax backwards. Curious.... ))
(( If only someone could cast Mage Hand....... ))
Mage hand is probably the safer, but much less fun option.
In my estimation, how tall was the door to the room with the 4 chest and the mimic?
The door from the first room and the door to the room with the chests are both similarly sized. Approximately 8 feet tall x 5 feet wide.
I’m ok with collecting gems.
