The bandits (one at 2 hp from Harek's blow, the other at 11) gang up on Richard.
Bandit 1 Attack: 10 Damage: 4
Bandit 2 Attack: 14 Damage: 8
Not comfortable with firing into the melee, the half-orc crossbowman retreats. He dashes towards the crag in the mountain to take cover behind a fallen rock.
Would I get an attack of opportunity when the bandit tries to move past me to Richard? I was seeing this as me getting between them and Richard or at least make them split.
If yes for the attack 18 DMG: 10
Harek moves up behind the bandits and attacks them again, fending them off with his armor and shield to distract them from his wounded teammate.
Sure, it makes sense that your character would try to guard the wizard.
Harek fells one brigand then beats back the other, but not before Richard takes a light stab.
The surviving brigand drops his weapon. "Not me! I've got money, information, whatever you want!"
I'll roll death saves from here on out, about one every passed up chance to revive the PC. I know I posted some house rules at the beginning about each failed death save making you replace a bond, flaw, personality, or ideal with something darker, but that is added complexity so we don't have to do that if you don't want to role play the decent into madness.
Well, I could try and roleplay that, but frankly speaking, Richard is an colossal ******* already. He's selfish, cruel to the point of being sociopath and has daddy issues (because of course he does). What more do you want? ;)
Honestly, at you discretion. I'm all for character development.

"Thanks..." Richard grunts, as he gets up. "I'll owe you one."
Wizard looks around, as if appraising the battlefield. He sees the tied down brigand and his eyes narrow. The man attempts to take a few steps towards him, but with each movement he grimaces with pain. He finally makes it to their prisoner.
"Now what should we do with you?" he says with a wolfish grin. The brigand nervously swallows. "Personally, I'd go with torture. And considering how close I was to biting the dust because of you and your friends, I'd say you're in world of trouble."
I considered trying to intimidate the guy, but given that Richard is actually evil, I'll go with Persuasion check to convince my teammates to torture him.
the bandit is dismayed to see the necromancer get his way. "No, please good sir! I can tell you about the attack, the lair, the secret loot cache, but if I tell you about the boss then I'll be in for much worse."
"I have no doubt about your cooperation either way," Richard says to the captive. "I just think the pain will keep you honest."
With these words, wizard plunges his blade in the brigands palm and twists it. Loud scream is almost enough to deafen the unprepared.
"Now, you were saying something about the attack?" he says, grinning. "I want to know all you know and then some. And I'm sure you'll be more forthcoming about your boss now, won't you?"
Richard continues to interrogate their captive. Before each question blade finds his way into yet another body part. Wizard is careful to avoid major vessels and organs too keep the prisoner alive, but his inhumane ways leave him progressively weaker after each stab. The rest of the party stands aside, quickly grown tired of the screams. The questions - and the time - start running out.
"Thats a good lad," Richard says, observing the misery he has caused. The man bleeding, heavily. His face is is a mess of tears and cuts, the ears are missing. Well, they're not technically 'missing', they are right there, on the ground, but still. "I'm afraid that means that you have outlived your usefulness."
With one final movement, wizard slits the prisoners throat.
Richard returns to the rest of the group, and reaches inside his pocket. After a second, he pulls out a handkerchief and begins wiping blood from his hands.
"So here's the thing. First of all, there's no 'loot cache', that was a lie," he says, disappointed. "Our no longer screaming friend over there is a part of a so-called 'Crawmen gang'. I've heard of them before, they're a pest, but a well-equipped and trained pest. Interestingly enough, they were sent to recover a map from Gundren and kill him, but, fortunately for us, Gundren managed to kill one and escape into the woods. That measly **** we saw running into the cave was carrying the map I mentioned."
Richard paused to catch his breath.
"Anyway, even this fella," he pointed to the prisoner. "Doesn't think his boss understands value of such item, so there might be a chance to get it back without further bloodbath. And that's about it." Wizard narrows his eyes, as if remembering something. "Oh and the cave entrance is rigged with gunpowder, so if anyone thinks we should venture in, we'd better remain unnoticed at least a fifty yards in."
"You want to prop the guy up so I can say I'm sorry? Bad things should happen to bad people. We find someone not so bad, maybe he ends up not so dead. Besides, he wouldn't have warned us about gunpowder if I were nice. Plus, he nearly killed me. I'm petty like that." Richard replied. "Look, the way I see it, we've got two choices. We could proceed into the cave and try to recover the map. Normally, I would vote for this one, because we could still make the map work without Gundren, but not necessarily vice versa. But honestly, we're in no shape to fight."
Richard brought his palm to his eyes and summoned a tiny flame which he then extinguished.
"I can't speak for the rest of you, but I'm unsure how much more magic I can channel before I'm left with cantrips. Maybe one spell. Besides, we've all taken our fair share of wounds for the day, I wouldn't bet on us. Sure, we could try to buy the map off their chief, like the lad suggested," he pointed to a corpse. "But who say he will even talk to us? Now if we had a proper experienced thief or if I, like an idiot, didn't forget potion of invisibility, we could have tried to steal it, but it's too risky right now. We know there are at least two men in there, plus a troll that's unaccounted for."
The mage paused to catch his breath.
"Retreating now, however, will give them time to prepare and regroup, maybe even leave the cave, even though I doubt it will come to that - bandits do not abandon good hideouts easily. It will also give us time to rest, track Gundren in the woods and see if we even need to recover that map - he might remember it. And this is about as much of a plan as I can provide for the moment. If anyone else has ideas, let's discuss them while we can. Otherwise, I suggest we go look for Gundren."
"Violent people come to violent ends. He had many chances to leave this path. I'm sure he expected his end to be much.......quicker. Let us find Gundren and see if he recommends reclaiming this map. Should we camp nearby to watch their movements?
"I'm suggesting observation, not trying to barricade them from leaving. It would be a cold night without a fire but would give us a head start in getting after that map if that is the path we need to take. Regardless, we seem to all agree on finding Gundren first. Let us get back to the woodline and compose ourselves(short rest) then see if we can find evidence of his passage somewhere along the trail we followed."
(OoC: Everyone gains a point of inspiration for role playing around the the interrogation and 60 XP for the fight. I will be offline for a trip until July 20th, meaning we will need to table the game for now. I will PM all of you a reminder when we are ready to start back up. Thanks, you all are fun to play with!)

Harek deftly ties up the surrendering Bandit and calls Ander over to him.
"We need to help our friend there. I've learned how to cause wounds, not heal them. Do you have anything to help him?"
If he's got nothing I'll try to make a medicine check: 9
So close and yet so far
Ander picks himself up and walks over. "I can help, certainly."
He uses his Lay on Hands to heal Richard for 3 HP.

On a success, you can respond however you want, if you fail you don't have to participate in the torture but also can't stop it.
And no one succeeds.
