On experience, Sildar will successfully deliver the remaining supplies to the Lionshield Coster in Phandalin by the end of the day. This completes your starting quest (12 XP each) plus the bonus XP for running off the Orge instead of fleeing it (40 XP each). I already added this to your character sheets.
When we last left off, you took out a couple of the Cragmaw Gang's raiders as they approached the Cragmaw Hideout. You were discussing whether to enter it in search of the map or go after Gundren. Either way, the Cragmaw Gang is likely mobilizing to defend the hideout as you speak.
You pull back into the woods and follow an animal trail a few miles east into the wooded mountains. There are no signs of pursuers, but your trail could be tracked fairly easily if you don't cover it (Survival DC 15). You find a flat rock to set up camp on. You may tend to whatever tasks or role playing you want, then take a long rest.
Harek builds a small campfire in a hole he dogs quickly. His military background showing from the familiarity and efficiency with the task. The fire is small and lets off little light but enough warmth. He the proceeds to clean his equipment for their journey and battles.
The night passes uneventfully, and after a quick meal you are ready to start off in search of Gundren. Unless he got lost or hurt, he could have made his way to Phandalin by now.
You set off back toward the scene of the attack. You pack up camp and leave without Ander ever noticing the extra set of tracks following you to your camp (I'm applying his roll from last night). You have just broken away from your trail to skirt the hideout, when, as you push your way through a thicket, you stumble upon two sleeping goblins with spears nearby. They wake, but they are groggy from sleep and don't roll initiative.
The goblins are just out of reach of their weapons and are helpless against your attacks. Thanks to Richard's quick acting, he and Ander dispatch them before they manage much more of a startled squeal. If there are others nearby it is not likely that they would have heard, but you may still want to proceed with caution.
The goblin's gear is nothing more than a few rags. They are conscripts with no identifying marks.
Sure, you hit one on the head pretty bad, but he's still conscious. Actually, he looks more alert than he was five second ago due to the pain and adrenaline.
Harek moves forward hitting the startled goblin on his forehead with his warhammer, a heavy hit but not with lethal force. Before the Goblin can regain his bearings Harek pins him to the ground, his small size still easily holding the goblin in place.
He keeps a hand pressed over the Goblin's mouth, and leans in blocking most of his vision. A rumbling whisper emits from his clenched jaw. "What are you doing here? How many are you? Answer quickly before we make you smaller than you already are."
"I - I was sleeping! Just now! Only Jol got stabbed and I got grabbed and..."
He trails off, seeing your expression.
"We were sent to follow some travelers who attacked the lair and set an ambush for them. The spike pit's that way to prove it!"
If pressed, the goblin reveals that most of the Cragmaw gang is out hunting for you and is camped in the remains of a ruined riverside watchtower about half a mile away. You can infer that these goblins were sent as bait to mark your location with their screams so that the Cragmaw gang's actual fighters could attack in mass without getting picked off as they searched for you.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"My, that's not actually an idiotic plan," Richard comments. "It's just idiotic goblins who fell asleep on the job. End them and let's try and find Gundren. And let's try and avoid being spotted, okay?"
I guess we should try and go unnoticed from this point? Shit, stealth is not my forte.

Harek quickly covers the fire pit and makes ready to leave.
"Let's return to the trail and follow Gundren's tracks to find him. After what happened to one of the bandits we should give their cave a wide berth."
(OoC: Sorry for being inactive for a couple days)

"We should probably kill them," Richard notes. "Preferably, quickly."

“I agree. Let’s make this quick!”
(OoC: I’m on vacation so I can’t do any rolls as I need my computer, but I can still talk and interact with the game. I will be back home on Saturday)

Do I get any chance to try and ask them questions before they're slaughtered? I can speak Goblin.
