Well the conversation is happening Syllen will glance around and try to gauge the number of seafaring vs wrecked boats there are. Also if possible Syllen will attempt to see how many boats could be fixed with the mending spell.
The duergar's veiled threat of reaching for her weapon prompts Khessa to position herself protectively beside Xanrym. The sight of the imposing woman in high-quality armor and carrying a greatsword of no less excellent craftsmanship should make the 'businesswoman' realize that it would be best for her to keep the negotiations on a verbal level.
The blonde arcane warrior understands what Xanrym has said in Elvish and lets him lead the negotiations, furtively gesturing to Avery not to openly offer his 'treasure' until they see if the Company can get a better price.
The Duergar seems unmoved by your mentions of Es Sarch, "Maybe you should go back and tell Es Sarch that if he wants jobs done on the Sullen Sea he should offer money up front for boat hire, or at least employ less stingy adventurers. In fact, if you have no further business here, I demand you go do that." The Duergar female takes a step back now that Khessa steps forward, still with her hand on her weapon.
Syllen notes that with a couple hours work you could probably fix up one of the wrecks.
Theldrin suggests the party find an area nearby to discuss the next step amongst themselves, and will offer to contribute towards renting the boat that's in better shape.

Avery will take up a position next to Khessa, and whisper to Xanrym that he has gold, but does not offer it freely in the negotiations. It seems down here in the underworld, intimidation is a part of negotiation, and he will add his weight with Khessa's as a heavily armored warrior, his hand resting on his longsword.

Xanrym sees that the duergar is unyielding, and it looks like the only way they could get to Rikaryon's Isle without paying her prices would be to sneak back later and steal a boat. While he's glad that the fighters' presence has prevented any sort of attack, he wants to prevent the situation from escalating further. He holds out his hand toward Avery and Khessa in a sort of restraining or placating gesture. The boats are expensive, and maybe the duergar may even be overcharging them because they're from the surface, but Xanrym feels like that's insufficient justification to start a fight.
Theldrin suggests the party find an area nearby to discuss the next step amongst themselves, and will offer to contribute towards renting the boat that's in better shape.
Xanrym nods in agreement. He tells the duergar, "Well, you certainly drive a hard bargain! We appreciate now that you have firm prices, and we may simply have to scrape together the coin to pay it. I think that we'll take a boat, but please give me a moment to discuss it with the rest of The Company. We need to figure out whether we can afford the higher rate for one of your 'boats that floats'."
Xanrym ushers Avery, Coriana, and Khessa a little ways away from the duergar so that they can discuss the prices in private. He assumes that everyone heard the negotiations, and he says, "What do you think? I left most of my gold back at home. I thought that we'd be down here exploring a dungeon or a ruined temple or something: I didn't expect an active city like this." He gestures back toward Pedestal.
Xanrym has ~85 gp in coins on his person and ~70 gp in gemstones. But if they're going to have to spend 100 gp for each of Es Sarch's missions, he worries that they could run out of funds before they find the lost king's bones. "And -- based on the peoples we've already met down here -- I wouldn't want to run entirely out of resources and have to rely on their charity." But The Company could just spend what they must now and worry about their available coin when it becomes a problem. Xanrym wonders whether they could find some "side jobs" just to earn some coin while they're in Pedestal. Hopefully, someone would pay them for some innocuous work, like guarding a caravan across the Oceanbridge.
What does everyone think? Should we:
Just pay 100 gp for a boat that floats,
pay 50 gp for a "wreck", OR
figure out some other way to get to Rikaryon's Isle.
figure out some other way to get to Rikaryon's Isle.
Xanrym doesn't come from money and doesn't feel good about paying full price if they don't have to.
If Coriana and Syllen are confident that they could make one of the "wrecks" safe, Xanrym votes for option 2.
On the other hand, while he tries to hide it, Xanrym is quite anxious about ending up in the Sullen Sea again. He worries that if he even touches the water, the Aboleth will somehow know it. Therefore, if they feel like the 100 gp boats are significantly safer, then he'd prefer to go with option 1.
Xanrym also says that he'll create a ledger, starting now. "I'll record any common expenses for this mission so that we can split expenses evenly. I know that Coriana recently emptied her pouches to buy new weapons, but if we find any treasure during this mission, we will first pay back whomever payed these expenses before we start dividing what remains evenly among The Company."
Theldrin votes for just moving forward with the more sound vessel. Thinking out loud as he rubs his beard, he surmises that having the best boat for the job is a good idea given what the party has seen of the dangers of the Sullen Sea thus far. Also saving the time of 2 hours might be valuable and it's only a 50 gp difference.
Khessa, on the other hand, believes that paying double isn't worth it if one of the 50 GP boats can actually be made seaworthy. She therefore votes for this solution. Also considering that, once the repaired boat is no longer needed, it can be returned to Duergar and a partial refund can be made. After all, if the boat is repaired, Duergar can then charge 100 GP for it, from that point on, resulting in a net profit.
Coriana says, "I personally think we should just buy the better boat, but I guess seeing as how I'm pretty much out of cash, my vote may not be counted as highly as others."
She glances towards the boats, and says, "To be fair, while I am a sailor, I'm just that, a sailor. Not a shipwright. If you all want to spend quality time fixing up a boat, go for it, but I expect to sea all the folks who vote 'repair' actually doing the hard work."

(OOC: Good to know! Xanrym left most of his gold back at the party's bastion. He wasn't expecting to find a city when they went into the "rift.")
