Bertram is still bleary eyed and coming at you, he attacks Xanrym with his sword:
Attack: 12 Damage: 3 Piercing
Xanrym hears Misha's horrific screams, but he's focused on Bertram. The sword in Bertram's hand makes him a serious threat, and Xanrym barely manages to side-step the attack. He had hoped that Misha's death might snap the man back to his senses. Apparently, no such luck.
Xanrym fights back with his short sword and dagger. He still doesn't believe that Bertram is entirely in control of his actions. He attempts to land a non-lethal blow so that he can knock out Bertram, and they can tie him up.
Xanrym hits Bertram with his sword, clubbing him in the jaw instead of running him through. As Bertram slumps down unconscious, Xanrym calls over his shoulder, "Lldryk, could you tie up Bertram in case he's still out of his mind when he comes to?" Then he moves forward into the common room cautiously. "Wasn't Misha talking to both the barkeep and the cook?", he thinks. He moves far enough into the room for Theldrin and Liarin to get past him if they want and for him to get a look at the common room and see whether there are other cultists or other signs of violence here.
Movement: 20' straight forward into the common room. Ending in front of the deer head Free Action: Talking
If Bertram is still up and fighting:
Xanrym pivots after dodging Bertram's attack and stabs down at his thigh, just attempting to wound the man without hitting anything vital. Then Xanrym tries to bring the hilt of the dagger around in his left hand to club Bertram, but in the confined space, the dagger's blade scrapes along the wall and throws off the blow, which misses Bertram by almost a foot.
Xanrym grunts in frustration and says, "It looks like he's in a sort of trance. Any ideas for how to snap him out of 'it'?"
Movement: None. Hold his position at the bottom of the stairs. Free Action: Talking
Assuming Theldrin tries the door that Xanrym didn't try, which was locked. The other door open easily, inside you see some quite nice lodgings, simple and clean. Inside is a man with a moustache and blonde hair, he looks quite proper, he's standing in the room dressed in a robe. He addresses you, "Oh thank god you are here good man. These cretins came into my room to capture me. If you hadn't had come i believe they would have killed me or perhaps something worse. Get me out of here and you will certainly be rewarded once i get back to Hookhill. My name is Oliver Ignamino, and i am a noble from Hookhill."
Downstairs, Bertram is still up, the gash in his thigh is thick, but he doesn't seem to even notice, despite him now displaying a serious limp.
Lldryk is still up, i assume you were only going to tie Bertram up if he was knocked out, which he wasn't.
Just as Lldryk knocks out Bertram. You hear the sound of footsteps coming up the path. You look outside and see Dogroot the chef hurrying the two men from Sir Grover’s office up to the inn. The two men are carrying the limp form of Avery between them. He has been knocked unconscious and is being dragged along. All three men have the familiar blurry look in their eyes.
This crew will arrive in about a minute. What’s the plan?
(OOC: See the map in post #71 of the OOC thread. 25 ft. from the front door to the wall directly opposite, but it's also nearly 55 ft. diagonally from the door to the northeast corner of the common room.)
Theldrin hears Lldryk yell from downstairs, and quickly says to Oliver, "You may be safest here for the moment my lord..." he eyes the robe and adds, "But please prepare yourself to leave, wear armour if you have it."
He then hurries back downstairs. Seeing Lldryk setting up the trip wire he casts Mage Hand and moves the spectral hand to float at eye level 5 feet inside the doorway. He manipulates the hand into a "halt" position, hoping to distract the two men's attention from the trip wire as they pass through the doorway, then hides 20 feet away around the corner.
Theldrin - Oliver says “You want me to stay here? Gladly” and stays put. You also hear muffled yells from the locked door next to Oliver’s.
I’d say these guys are at a disadvantage to see the tripwire. Anyone else got any plans or shall I do this?
Also, Avery, you come back to consciousness with 1hp. You sense your being manhandled by Grover’s deputies and being taken back to the inn. Dogroot the cook is with you too.
Also I think it’s only fair to offer you all an ‘action’ short rest that you can do in a minute. You’ve just had two battles without one and it’s something I often do. Just be aware that the bad guys can do the same

(OOC: Xanrym is uninjured and has no abilities that recharge on a short rest, so he'll skip it. I'd like him to try to do various things, so I'll break down the 1 minutes into 10 rounds.)
Xanrym sheathes his sword and dagger and looks out the window. As Lldryk goes to set the trip wire, he asks, "What's your plan? Killing Misha and that Derek, I understand. But these bleary-eyed men? They just seem to be in thrall to some other power. Are you going to try to subdue three of them somehow or just kill them? And if they rush your, can you get back into that door?" (The one in the NE corner.)
Xanrym tries to help Lldryk prepare by spreading ball bearings between the door and the northeast corner. That may slow down the men if they try to rush Lldryk. (On the map, the ball bearings could cover the square with the "1" on it and the three squares one up and one to the right of it.)
Xanrym moves back toward the stairs and recommends that Liarin be ready to use her bonfire to force the men to force the men to take longer routes to Lldryk or the others: either lighting it in the aisle between the bar and the table in front of it or maybe lighting it just to the NE of the number "1" on the map where the ball bearings are. That may force the men to go over or around the big table in front of the bar, slowing them down more, or straight through the fire. Anything to give Lldryk more time.
Then Xanrym makes sure that Bertram is bound if Lldryk didn't already finish doing that.
If they're going to fight, he plans to start the fight behind the bar with his crossbow. But when Theldrin comes downstairs, he asks the wizard, "What did you find upstairs? Did you get into the locked room?" As soon as Xanrym hears that Theldrin only opened the door next to the locked door, he worries that they've missed something. He asks Liarin for guidance.
He says, "I'll try to be back down before they get here." Then he dashes back upstairs to the locked door.
He'll try to pick the lock: Thieves' Tools20 + (if he has guidance) 4
Did he manage to get the door open? What did he see?
If it was nothing alarming, he'll just tell the person to stay in their room for now and then dash back downstairs to get behind the bar.
Load a bolt in his crossbow and hide behind the bar (Stealth8).
Sorry i got confused with reference to the 'number 1' as i can't see it on there. I also think i didn't share enough of the map before as the door to the inn was not visible before. Here is my representation of what y'all just said. The red line is the rope, the green outline is the ball bearings. Let me know if you want to change anything.
Also Xanrym. In the room you saw a woman tied up on the bed. She's wearing a white sleep robe and has clearly been bound and gagged. She look at you pleadingly. You can change what you did, or if you feel there's not enough time to release her. She would calm down if you explained that you would come back to free her in a minute or two.

Seeing Misha drop, Liarin drops concentration on the spell, hoping to avoid collateral damage.

"Xanrym, I got Bertram." I take out my rope and hog tie him behind his back.

Since Bertram is still up, I will use the pommel of my dagger to knock him out 15 dam 5

"Theldrin Osgard at your service my lord. We aren't out of danger yet... did they come in through a secret door in the back of the room?"

I yell up the stairs, “ I’ve found Avery and it’s about to get very crowded in here.”
What is the distance from the wall opposite the door to the door?
(OOC: See the map in post #71 of the OOC thread. 25 ft. from the front door to the wall directly opposite, but it's also nearly 55 ft. diagonally from the door to the northeast corner of the common room.)
(Are we still in initiative or do we have about a minute to act freely?)
Minute to act freely. Make whatever preparations or plans you think you need to.
Lldyk is going to take about 10' of rope and set up a "trip wire" across the door about shin height and then retreat to the back corner.
Theldrin hears Lldryk yell from downstairs, and quickly says to Oliver, "You may be safest here for the moment my lord..." he eyes the robe and adds, "But please prepare yourself to leave, wear armour if you have it."

Liarin gladly offers guidance to those who want it and casts it on herself as she hides behind the table closest to the door. [Stealth: 15 Guidance: 4
