With Krell and the other spiders dead and the Phase Spider retreated to the Etherial Plane, I’d say this battle is over. Unless someone has a way of attacking into the Etherial.
Xanrym seems to have earned the spider's ire since it continues to focus on attacking him. He manages to keep his spear in the way, preventing it from reaching him with his first bite, but the spider finally corners him and looks like it's about to sink it's fangs into his shoulder when Xanrym releases his spear with one hand and casts a spell, creating an invisible shield that deflects the spider's attack.
Reaction: Cast spell (Magic Initiate, 1/LR) Shield (Reaction taken when hit by an attack.) Until the start of Xanrym's next turn, he has a +5 bonus to AC (that is, AC 21) and takes no damage from [Tooltip Not Found].
As the spider fades away, Xanrym heaves a sigh of relief. He looks to Khessa and says, "I'm afraid we haven't seen the last of that spider. The last time we had an enemy vanish like that, it kept reappearing later to zap us." Xanrym is thinking of the Will-o-Wisp in the naga's lair.
Realizing that he's out of immediate danger, he remembers the main fight in the other room. Looking past Khessa to the hallway, he asks, "What of Krell?" As soon as Xanrym learns that Krell has been killed, he releases concentration on Silence so that they can all hear each other as they gather in Krell's room to decide what to do next.
"Excellent work everyone," Theldrin says with relief as everyone gathers in the room, adding with a warm smile, "it's hard now to image the Company without our newest additions." He will then begin to search the area.
Khessa puts away her Greatsword and, not seeing the monster reappear and hearing the bard's considerations, angrily slams her right fist against her left palm: "Damn! I was too hasty, with that lunge. I barely grazed him... I should have kept my cool and thrown a Magic Missile spell at it. The elusive critter would have had no escape and now we would have one less thing to worry about".
"I'm still learning... I'm still, in part, the inexperienced cabbage farmer who was so easily preyed upon by the drow... but" the blonde arcane warrior sighs, albeit with a light of iron determination at the bottom of her blue eyes "I will improve. Sorry Xanrym".
"Yes, we did great anyway, Theldrin!" the tall adventuress returns the warm smile "We handled well even what we didn't expect! And now, let's hope we find some clues about what happened to the cargo... Krell's mention of a Kraken wasn't exactly reassuring... I hope what we're looking for wasn't dragged into the depths of the Nyr Dyv by a sea monster!"
Apart from the runes written in blood, the circle carved into the floor and spiderwebs everywhere you find nothing of interest. Apart from the door held in place with spikes to the south.
[[ OOC: Forgot to mention: Khessa helps Theldrim in his search ]]
Hsving found nothimg more od interest, Khessa turns her attention to the writhing human sized bundles hanging from the roof: "This should not contain demons - or Krell would have released them during the fight. But let's be ready for anything all the same".
The blonde arcane warrior, once more, uses her pike to cut what keeps a sack hanging, then to open it.
Same for the other sack, unless something baf happens.

"Well, if I'm right, you may get another chance before we're done here. I'm just happy that you showed up when you did and scared it off!", Xanrym says as he cleans off his spear. "Otherwise, I'm sure that it would have kept attacking until I was dead and wrapped up in a web." He shudders at the thought. What a horrible end! "Take pride in what the Company has accomplished today, Khessa. We might have just come here to recover Aubrek's crate. But you've helped deprive Lolth of one of her followers and rid the world of these 8-legged monstrosities and some demons from the Abyss too!"
As Xanrym makes his way to Krell's room, he continues to think about the giant, disappearing spider. Study - Arcana: 9 (in game log, though I actually rolled it as Nature)
It seems unlikely that he has ever heard of a "Phase Spider" before.
"Excellent work everyone," Theldrin says with relief as everyone gathers in the room, adding with a warm smile, "it's hard now to image the Company without our newest additions." He will then begin to search the area.
Xanrym heartily agrees with Theldrin's sentiment and gives a little cheer for the Company's success. He says that he wants to hear the full story of the fight once they're safely back on the Soul of Winter so that he can start writing the tale of this adventure.
It was clear from Xanrym's experience that the Phase Spider didn't just turn invisible because it seemed like it was no longer in the room after it vanished. He mentions the spider's behavior to Theldrin, "Perhaps it completely dematerializes so that it cannot be harmed when it's invisible? Or maybe it's some strange form of teleportation?" That makes him wonder whether the spider is now in one of the adjacent rooms or on one of the other decks of the ship. He briefly goes up the hallway again, jumping over the rotten grate, to check the other rooms and make sure that the spider isn't there. If he doesn't find it, he returns to the room where they killed Krell and says, "The great disappearing spider nowhere to be found. But I wouldn't be surprised if it's hiding down in the dark hold of the ship now. The other big spiders just seemed to attack like guard dogs...or perhaps they saw us as food. But not that last one. Maybe it was just my imagination, but it seemed to have more personal animus toward me, like it wanted to strike a blow to avenge Krell'sdeath before it disappeared."
Once Xanrym is finished worrying about the giant, disappearing spider, he asks Coriana, "Krell mentioned 'The Kraken.' Isn't that some sort of giant sea monster?" Does Xanrym know anything more about krakens than that? Study - History: 12 (in game log)
(OOC: I'll wait to see what the rest of the Company does before posting again. We need to figure out whether the human-sized bundles of web in this room are more Maw Demons or actual survivors from the original Emperor of the Waves crew. Then, once we finish searching Krell and the room, we'll need to decide what's next. There's the door to the south with the iron spikes wedged in it and the rotten grate down to the next deck...or maybe all the way down to the hold. We still haven't found the "undead horrors" mentioned in the captain's log book, and unless Krell was mistaken, there could be a kraken around here somewhere. That makes me want to figure out whether Aubrek's create is on this ship and then get back to the Soul of Winter as soon as possible so that we can sail as far away as possible before a kraken shows up!)
Syllen seems uncomfortable with the idea of being watched by a spider that can appear and disappear as it wishes. He will join the rest of the group in the room.
“It seems like we have another good reason not to separate from each other when exploring.”
Syllen will walk over to the door and see if he can hear anything on the other side of it. As he listen he will also keep an eye on what Khessa is doing
The blonde arcane warrior, once more, uses her pike to cut what keeps a sack hanging, then to open it.
Xanrym agrees with Khessa's reasoning, but he's not willing to take any risks after the surprise of finding Maw Demons the last time she opened a webbed bundle. Before Khessa cuts down the first bundle, Xanrym gets out his crossbow and gets ready. Then he says, "OK. Open it," as he readies the spell Vicious Mockery, focusing the arcane energy and preparing a taunt about a "doomed servant of a dead master."
Move: Move back to the hallway, just outside and to the east side of the north door. Action: Ready the spell Vicious Mockery, WIS 14 save or target takes 4 (psychic) damage and has disadvantage on the next attack roll it makes before the end of its next turn. Trigger: if he sees anything monstrous (or demonic!) emerging from the bundle, he casts the spell at it. Free Action: Talking. Item interaction - loading crossbow.
As for Phase Spiders, those magical arachnids are endemic to the Ethereal Plane. From vaporous lairs, they peer through the Border Ethereal into the Material Plane. However, Phase spiders are more intelligent than mundane spiders, but most are cowards usually. It would take a powerful person to tame one the way this one has been. Kraken's however are far less known however. Ancient tools of the gods, they rarely bother themselves with mortal affairs. Why one would be anywhere near this ship is a mystery.
Syllen hears nothing from behind the door to the south.
Khessa sighs with relief, at the sight of the treasure: "Well... this time the contents of the sacks not only didn't try to eat us - but actually turned out to be extremely useful!"
The blonde arcane warrior comments: "The cloak can't be used right away - it takes time to... take effect." [[ OOC: requires attunement ]] "But the other things make sense to divide now, so that we can use them in case of need" her blue eyes run for a moment to the not very reassuring nailed door "Theldrin can probably make good use of the Scroll of Gust of Wind - I'm not experienced enough yet and would risk wasting it. And the Potion of Heroism could be very useful to Avery, who often fights in melee. I have no way to use the scroll of Protection from Poison, as useful as it can be against Lolth's forces - but I could happily take the Potion of Water Breathing, in case I happen to fall into the water while wearing my sturdy but heavy armor".
Xanrym scoops up the cloak and coins into his sack. He agrees with dividing the other items. He cannot use either scroll -- alas! -- but Theldrin or Syllen can.
(OOC: Go ahead and take the Potion of Water Breathing. I'm not sure how much everyone knows about our abilities, but I think that everyone other than Khessa already has a way to deal with falling into the water:
Khessa takes the Potion of Water Breathing with a smile of thanks: "I'm grateful for this little extra 'security'! And now... time to unnail the mysterious door?"
The blonde arcane warrior approaches, ready to put herself in the front row of the unknown - and the dangers that probably await beyond.
Xanrym would also like to search Krell's ruined body before they open the next door. If there's a talisman or something that helped him create or control the undead, then that could be useful. Also, when the Company told Xanrym about the fight with Krell, Xanrym remembers Avery saying something odd about Krell's deadly staff that he wielded effectively even while blinded.
If the door has spikes on this side, then Xanrym doubts that there will be any more monstrous spiders in it. Krell didn't seem to be bothered by the spiders! But perhaps the undead guard the next room? In any case, Xanrym will again ready Vicious Mockery in case anything leaps out and attacks as soon as Khessa removes the spikes and opens the door.
(OOC: IIRC, wasn't Krell wielding a Spider Staff. Let's not leave that behind!)

As Khessa slices open the web sacks, Krells' grizzly trophies fall out. Most of them skulls and bones of varied humanoids, but there is also a few actual treasures amongst it.
