Backstory: Carnelian was taken in at a very young age to study under the monks and priests of Candlekeep. There, he learned a great many thing. Among the things he picked up is that knowledge is its own power. Even the greatest magics in the land sit firmly upon the foundation of knowledge. Carnelian developed a powerful taste for knowledge, gobbling it up whenever possible! As such, the monks of Candlekeep, ever seeking to expand their library, saw fit to send him out into the world. There, he could gather more knowledge. Perhaps he could even find something worthy to sit upon the shelves of the greatest library in the world! Now Carnelian wanders the land, seeking new experiences and knowledge to enjoy.

Backstory: From a young age, Merle was fascinated by the obscure, the strange, and the occult. He discovered his Gnomish inclination towards the magical arts at a young age, and soon spent all of his time huddled away in the local library. He voraciously tore through manuscript after manuscript, always hungry fro the next tantalizing secret, but soon, the pages of his small hometown library could not satisfy his hunger, so he focused his arcane studies into the art of Divination, so that he might see beyond his material limitations and find knowledge hidden from the common eye. Merle knew that in order to progress, he would need a tutor, and found one in a nearby city - an old fortune teller by the name of Madame Ostrela. This mystical old human woman trained Merle to focus his mind, and also open it to the possibilities of the world around him. She told him tales long forgotten, of heroes and villains who found power and knowledge in the most unexpected places, hidden beyond the veil of mortal understanding, and these tales become like a religion for Merle, who dreamed of having such a profound and enigmatic experience. His obsession grew until he decided to set off on his own, to find such a place himself. One that would contain the secrets and power that he desired, lurking just beneath the surface.

At the first opportunity available to her, Justice joined the City Watch, and that soon became her life. No one was as good at tracking down criminals, and her stealthy ways made her excellent at stakeouts. After years of service, working her way up the ranks, she found herself the lead investigator in the city, which is what brings her this strange farm, looking into rumors regarding it.
Just posting to say that I'm still interested. However, I was not able to make the stats I rolled in the other thread work for Ian so I'm going to be playing a bard instead. Haven't finished the character or his full backstory. He (I think it's going to be a he) joined the group so that he can experience all sorts of paranormal adventures and have epic stories to tell.

Orphaned very young, Penumbra has no memory of her parents and no knowledge of how she came to live at an orphanage in Baldur's Gate. Her life there was unpleasant at best, always bullied by the other orphans she quickly learned to take care of herself and how to make herself unseen. At the age of twelve years she had had enough of the squalid conditions of the orphanage, and the harassment by her peers and caretakers alike, so she left. She spent a few years living in the streets and learning to steal to survive. After a time she found she could access the attic of a library and found that the attic had apparently been forgotten, She made a home for herself there. Living in such close proximity to so many books she inevitably read a great many and became very interested in the occult.
When Penumbra reached the age of twenty years she decided it was time to leave Baldur's Gate. She knew she would need money and so she found a particularly superstitious nobleman. She used her knowledge of the occult and the man's fears of such things to lure him into a trap. she left the man tied in an alley with nothing but his undershorts and made her way out of the city and into the world.

Disillusionment followed, the inability of the watch to tackle the thieves guilds and the blind eyes turned for a few coins by his colleagues destroyed his belief in the system, he began to doubt everything, fearing that all of his fellow watchmen were corrupt and that crime was going on constantly around him. He tried one last thing to restore his faith, a small department was created of investigators, whose tasks were to weed out the most dangerous elements of the criminal underworld. His new team were misfits, brought in from different areas but despite this they worked well together and made great progress, too much progress in the end.
The fears Esano had harboured came true one night as his team of investigators were set up by a group of watchmen who were firmly in the pockets of the very people they were supposed to be bringing to justice, as the other investigators were cut down by hired killers Esano managed to escape, but as nowhere was safe for him any more he fled the area, knowing that one day he would have to return to make them pay for their crimes. What made it worse was the knowledge that he could have prevented it but that he had put too much faith in one of the few watchmen outside his team he thought was a good man, seeing him among the assassins was the lowest point for Esano and he will not forget or forgive that betrayal.

I have an intelligence of six, I know what I'm doing.

Accepted Characters: Carnelian Penumbra Esano Dari Nillis Dorian Merle Aburnath
Fiora has always been a citizen of [major city this campaign takes place near], like it or not. Like most adventurers, her beginnings were a bit... traumatic. She woke up on the streets of Waterdeep as a child with no recollection of who she was or what she was doing there. Fiora was forced to steal and fight to survive her youth after figuring out no one was looking for her. Such a traumatic time indeed! She even joined the very local thief's guild as she reached her teenage years just for the added protection against the law or other cruel actors. Her typical hits were usually rich, fat cats with too much money on their hands. Wouldn't that money be better spent by her?
Things changed fast after she cast her first spell, accidentally of course, and turned a man purple one day while she was out on a covert mission to steal the most delicious blueberry pie she ever smelled. Oh yeah, and it turned out that man was a member of a rival guild... awkward. In the scuffle with the purple man, Fiora managed to make it out alive with both the pie and the man's savings of gold coins all kept conveniently in a bag. With the discovery that she was, in fact, a sorcerer, Fiora wondered more about her parentage, but lacked the ability to find out more. Plus, she was incredibly drunk at that point, having spent all of the purple man's life savings on the finest liquor.
Not too long ago, Fiora got caught up in an investigation as a witness, but soon ended up helping the investigators with their task. She found that her penchant for sneaking, misdirection, and outright lying was actually quite useful for investigative work. Tired of living the 'hand to mouth' lifestyle, Fiora is sometimes able to tag along with investigators that need her particular set of skills - spells, stealth, and smooth talking.

Flaws: I’m too greedy for my own good. I can’t resist taking a risk if there’s money involved. Gold seems like a lot of money to me, and I’ll do just about anything for more of it.

Hey uh... In DnD, is there any restriction on character cosmetics like hair color, eye color etc? Like IRL, it is impossible for a human to have purple, red or true black eyes naturally but is that also the case for DnD? Or can any character have any cosmetic feature like someone's bad OC?
A Candle in the Dark is a one-shot adventure in which a group of investigators attempt to unravel a dark and dangerous mystery at an unnasuming farm.
Just don't let the candle go out.
