The rules for crafting magic items can be found in the DMG and XGtE. In addition, there is this post on crafting magic items.
Keoghtom's Ointment is an uncommon wondrous item. Here are the two ways to craft an uncommon wondrous item, listed side-by-side:
DMG method: Need the formula, must be a spellcaster (minimum of 3rd level, and if the item casts a specific spell, they must be able to cast that spell as well), 10 days, 250gp
XGtE method:Need the formula, need an appropriate tool proficiency (or proficiency with Arcana), need an exotic material from a creature (CR 4-8), 1 week, 100gp
For the current IC, we won't pause at every bend in the hallway ... but since the lighting source changed, I wanted to give you guys a chance to sort yourselves out (torches, spells, lanterns, who is carrying what, marching order, etc).
False Life gives me some protection, so Ichep can go second. He‘ll cast Light on a candle and carries it unless Yaudara wants me to light an object of his instead.
DM, do we get the sense that our original climb-down of 20 feet or so was deep enough that the ascending staircase could be to another level that's still underground, or could that staircase lead back up to the surface?
I don't remember there being any buildings near the sinkhole, but I could be wrong.
Your second hunch is accurate. You guys really aren't that deep into the earth, about twenty feet or so. After accessing the sinkhole that opened up at the town's edge, you guys have now moved quite a bit laterally and discovered an ascending staircase.
If you had to guess, after following the tunnel for a dozens and dozens of yards ... you are now probably somewhere under the town of Havenford itself.
we shouldn't have bet so soon :(
edit: Also thanks for the well wishes for Easter!!! Hope y'all had a good day!

Removed the Keoghtom's Ointment from Balen's sheet and added it to Toadstool's sheet.
Can I attack the door to try to open it or would that be dumb?

I don’t think it would be dumb.
It would, however, be the first thing that anyone has tried.
Brace yourselves, I'm gonna try the door handle...
*GASPS* you may be onto something...
the idea of actually trying to use the handle: *over everyone's heads*
Yaudara: we didn't even try the handle...

The curse of Vox Machina - the door
Also a question regarding the ointment - this one is kind of great regarding it's properties, so how would we recreate it?
Toadstool is proficient with alchemy and herbalism and has herbalism kit. The description kind of hints toward it being more "natural than magical".

"Speak friend and enter."
I'm ok leading the procession, unless someone else wants to. My passive Perception is 13.

Toadstool will be last. No more bravery from him. Probably with a lit torch
Yaudara's got dark vision so he's ok, but thanks anyway. Keep the candle close so my passive trap-spotting doesn't happen at disadvantage.

Maybe we run around down here till we get enough XP to level up, then take the stairs back to town.
I mean we could go for a rest or sth, but it's been like 20 minutes since the start of our adventure, so IDK. I say we go down
Down!
Definitely too soon to rest. We just got started. Plenty more fish in the...caves.
