(hey all so sorry ive been slammed with work and life, but I will jump back in. All of that said- I have no issues with someone botting Tess (especially for neccesary healing. Ill catch up and post soon)
Tess has been quietly observing the group and the experimentations. She ritual casts detect magic, and studies the puzzle. 25 arcana and 18 religion check.
“We are here, let’s take a look, but watch for creatures that look like stalagmites and drop on you. I have encountered them before.” Sparhawk will shoot his crossbow at the suspicious stalagmite.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Sparhawk's guess is correct (just noting because English is.. stalagmites are the ones that come up from the ground reaching a point at the apex)
Sparhawk's suspicion is well-founded, as ge finds when his arrow causes tbe creature perched arop the geoform to leap down and attack him. The twisted brute has ape-like features, contorted into a demonic mass of muscle and fur. Upon hitting the floor if the cave, it pounds it's chest witha roar and moces in to attack.
_on initiative 20:_ the pillars pulse with Abyssal energy, which isnt magical, per se, as Tess would know since detect magic.
<Sparhawk can fire the arrow normally if initiative is above 20, otherwise the environmental effect may modify the attack roll. Hit ir miss, the demon responds the same way>
Sparhawk feels an intense pressure in his skull, as if his eyes are being pulled from his head. But, no, more like they want to writhe their way out of his head.
Make a DC15 con save to avoid this abyssal effect: blinded (ends at next initiative 20)
(If blind, attacks would have ad, so rolling 2 d20 attacks seperately here. Use the one that makes sense.)
On initiative 12: The large demon smacks at Sparhawk with one fist, then tbe other
1x Sparhawk 16 (AD: 26) for 9 bludgeoning, 19 (AD: 9). If either attack hits, it instantly confers the orone condition on the target.
It then turns its attwntion to tess, biting at her: 24 for 11 piercing plus 13 psychic damage
Two other creatures, each atop a stalagmite, become magically invisible. A third casts [spwll]w tangle[/spell] on the area below.
Red hexagons are demons. Spaehawk and Tess make Str saves, only sparhawk saves vs blinded. The farther two demons on pillars are invisible, the nearer one in a pillar cast entangle. If Kos or Gharzun advance, they will also move through the area of entangle (20ft), but they both have line of sight to the demon on the pillar.
<We havent used 2024 rules much for invisibility, so i'll do my best, but if i err, just let me know. We've got two invisible creatures, so its bound to come up>
Surprisingly, the demon is restrained, so attacks made on it have AD, unless made by another restrained creature, which would negate AD leaving a flat roll.
Kos will cast Acid Splash to only target the demon fighting Sparhawk.
DC 16 DEX save or take 15 acid damage.
"Beware! Demons!"

"A rightful place awaits you in the Realms Above, in the Land of the Great Light. Come in peace, and live beneath the sun again, where trees and flowers grow."
— The message of Eilistraee to all decent drow.
"Run thy sword across my chains, Silver Lady, that I may join your dance.”

As his boots touch solid ground once more, Gharzun exhales steadily. The return to the fungal grotto is jarring in its stillness—until the crimson glow ahead shatters it.
The baleful light seeps from the stalagmites like blood from cracked bone. Gharzun’s warhammer is in hand before the first bolt looses from Sparhawk’s crossbow. The shriek of a descending demon confirms the half-orc’s instincts were correct.
Gharzun narrows his eyes. “Contact confirmed. Four entities—one revealed. The others... watching.”
His gaze snaps up to the visible demon atop the pillar. A dark invocation rides beneath his breath, words shaped not to harm, but to bind.
“Face me.”
As his spell takes hold, divine authority floods the cavern air—unyielding and absolute. Without pause, Gharzun presses forward, stepping into the field of writhing roots and entangling growth that had sprung up around the central battle. The vines grasp at his armored legs, but he barrels through unimpeded, will and strength unshaken.
He brings his warhammer down hard on the restrained demon attacking Sparhawk. The first swing, though aimed true, glances off the fiend’s hide. With a growl of frustration, he pivots and drives the hammer back in from the side, this time with radiant fury bursting through the steel.
“You picked the wrong prey.”
OOC to DM:
Initiative: 17
Bonus Action: Cast Compel Duel on the visible demon atop the pillar (DC 16 Wisdom save)
Movement: Entered Entangle area and succeeded on Strength save (20), not restrained
Attack 1 (vs restrained demon): Rolled with advantage – To hit: 11 (likely a miss)
Attack 2 (vs restrained demon): Rolled with advantage – To hit: 21
Bludgeoning Damage: 10
Smite: Used a 3rd-level spell slot to add 17 radiant damage
While Gharzun smashes the restrained demon with his hammer, it writhes from the burning acid spilled by Kos. Offended by the intrusion and the attack, the demon on the pillar leaps to the ground (on his turn.) If the first demon somewhat resembles an earth orangutan, (sized closer to gigantopithicus,) the other, with its varied facial markings, shares more in common with a mandrill.
The restrained creature is getting pummeled. Though it manages to avoid Tess' spiritual weapon, it takes rhe firebolt square to the chin. It struggles to break free of the ensnaring vines 22 (Str DC13)

<Tess is up>
Sparhawk init (19)
con save 19
crossbow attack: 24 to hit 10 damage, second bolt 20 to hit , 10 damage.
when he gets hit, Sparhawk falls prone (unless there’s a save)
Tess casts spiritual weapon, and a glowing staff appears and whacks at the restrained demon. (14 hit wirh advantage, for 15 if that actually hit!)
She then shoots it with a firebolt, 17 or 28 to hit if advantage still hit for 27 damage.
(forgot init: Tess is prepared for this wirh a 21, and she makes the STR save with a 15 (which i think is actually a 19 thanks to Sparhawk)
The restrained creature is getting pummeled. Though it manages to avoid Tess' spiritual weapon, it takes rhe firebolt square to the chin. It struggles to break free of the ensnaring vines 22 (Str DC13)
Demon 2 attacks Gharzun, biting and thrashing in a fit of rage.
