From BA: (ooc: not to look a gift horse in the mouth or anything but with Etali's sudden disappearance does this mean combat is over?... also since Etali can no longer be seen does this mean the WIS save rolls vs. his fear affect are no longer made at disadvantage?)

Again the air warps, but bit in tbe place the great lizard* stood; rather, the mirage of wavering rainfall reappears within the walls of Fort Vengeance, itself! Feom the swirling aether if the distorted dimensions folded within themselves, emerges the massive form of the ancient creature, the device on its back now evident to most of the forts occupants. <mechanically, this was all a homebrew twist on legendary resistance. I always hated all the 'nope' of it, while you just burn a spell slot and nothing happens. So now, something happens. Maybe somwthing good, maybe something bad. I guess we'll never know. Wait, yes we will. We'll all find out together. The Dungeon Coach and I are working on the same issue from opposite sides. He thinks you should have more things to do with reactions and I also think there should be a radical change to reaction: a paradigm shift from abjuration and backpeddling to more cinematic one-off cypher-inspired mecahnics. But I'm still playing with them. DCC does this with random tabkes, which is fun, but its evey tine you cast a doell. Just like static damage, and the shift towards dropping attack rolls, the plan is to keep fun randomness, eschewing any that reduces fun, to create new opportunities for creativity, to keep things fast and fun and to support tactical and strategic play. Im not inteoducing all of this, I'm just doin some Lego Batman here... starting with the man in the mirror. So, Legendary Reaistance is the one thing I'm workshoppong right now. Its not a bad mechanic, its just nkt very fun, but I think it has high potential to be. I welcome your feedback.>
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Saves vs Frightful presence:
Ord Firebeard 7
Wulf Rygor 3
<I think Ord can get a +3 from Sparhawk's aura of protection>
The gold dwarf veteran grips hus longsword tight and draws his main gauche, Leaping into the hurricane of teeth, himself a whirlwind of rage and steel. Longsword 23 for 7, longsword 25 for 7 slashing, shortsword 20 for 6 piercing.
Wulf flinches, but holds his ground. Seeing his boy hood friend lying dead in the rising fetid brown water as his own imminent demise stares him in the face is too much. He starts to break. Yet, seeing Ord's bravery, the half-elf grabs his bow and let's loose a pair of arrows at the creature's mouth 17 for 6 14 for 6 piercing.
And snaps the half elf in half, tossing his torso over its shoulder and over the wall to land beside Sister Cyas and Undril Silvertusk as they scramble back to the gate.
<I'm really interested in locations. It sounds like we've got two airborne and two on the ground. But you're welcome to retcon things to put your PC where you want them to he. Really it just comes down tothis: are you inside Fort Vengeance or outside? We are wrapping this encounter up and getting ready to move on.>
Koselig and Cha!jil look on as the events unfold before them.
The device on Etali's back emits a series of high-frequency sound waves that resonate with the molecular structure of the fort’s materials, causing them to vibrate at an atomic level. This vibration leads to a rapid phase transition, effectively turning the fort into a cloud of subatomic particles that disperse into the atmosphere.
<I think this effects Sparhawk and Tess. Please correct me if I'm wrong before I continue.>
As the moment lingers, the pair hovering above the former site of Camp Vengeance see, in the clearing sky, the light of morning breaking through the clouds. A dark mote floats in the sky to the south of them, The Heart of Ubtao.
Cha!jil looks momentarily happy to see the blight that was the noxious fort gone then glances up.
She begins heading toward the organ shaped earthmover....Ubtao wasn't her deity but the Lord of the Deep Jungle and The Father of Dinosaurs were not enemies...
The Soshenstar and Tath rivers flow out of this marshy upland basin, which is a popular feeding ground for dinosaurs and swarms of biting insects. Tall plateaus and walls of dense foliage enclose the marsh.
It may be as much as 50 miles away. <it's 12 hexes, but I don't think we need a 1:1 scale for this. You can get there in hours, I'd say. How long/far do you think you can keep aloft? >
The Heart of Ubtao is an earthmote — a massive chunk of earth held aloft by magic that can’t be dispelled. It hovers 200 feet above the ground and rotates slowly counterclockwise, completing one revolution every hour. Chultans call it the Heart of Ubtao because the earthmote is vaguely heart-shaped, and the petrified tree adds the impression of veins and arteries. The dripping red liquid is rainwater that was stained by filtering through iron ore deposits in the rock.
Chultans who’ve seen the earthmote believe it’s actually the petrified heart of the god Ubtao, and they consider it sacred. Priests of Ubtao used to travel here on the backs of flying dinosaurs to seek visions inside the heart and to beseech Ubtao to return.
Cha!jil tries her best to travel towards The Heart...she has no idea how long the gnomes concoction will work for but isn't worried overly about the fall if it fails.

1 Ord, 2 Wulf: 1
Etali bites down 32 (21 piercing)...
And snaps the half elf in half, tossing his torso over its shoulder and over the wall to land beside Sister Cyas and Undril Silvertusk as they scramble back to the gate.
<These are legendary actions, so players are still up>

Cha!jil continues flying away from the destroyed fort and the angry god-beast...with the gnome in her hands.

(We are still in the fort, but could misty step out. )
Cha!jil looked down at Koselig, " That metal thing isn't supposed to be there........at least not in the stories about Etali that my people tell..."
(BA):
"How did it get there? Could someone have put it there, maybe to control or enrage Etali?"
After seeing Etali, the fort, and everyone in it suddenly vaporized, "ARGH! Gods above! Where did everything go?"
The fort is thoroughly gone. In its place, the jungle primeval, untouched by modern implements to all appearances.
The skies, still cloudy, no longer threaten with lightning and torrential rain.
Sparhawk and Tess are nowhere to he seen.
(OOC: oh oh!)
