I've closed recruitment for now as we have a good party (plus one whose contacted me by DM) which should be enough to begin. I'll see what I can manage tomorrow in terms of laying the groundwork and creating an introduction then I imagine we'll properly set off next week after the bank holiday. I'm on shift Sat - Mon so my time then will be limited on those days. Looking forward to exploring the mountains with you all!

I'm thinking of a half-orc (if that's allowed in your setting, half-elf if not) barbarian. Druzull grew up in (insert large to medium size city in your setting), never being accepted with either of his heritages. He's worked manual labor & odd jobs to get by and when an opportunity to travel to the north presented itself, he took it to find his fortune.
I'd be interesting in submitting Gwendallyn Ashenstaff, human (or possibly Aasimar if that works?) cleric of the Light domain (would love to hear about any relevant deities your homebrew world would have)! She would be of the Noble background, but travels under an alias using the alias of Ashenstaff and does not disclose her family name. I would definitely like to provide additional context about her background behind the scenes if you would like to know more! Or we can share here in spoilers, but a lady has got to have a few secrets of her own.
Hi, absolutely with the secrets! You can DM those if you wish. I don't have Aasimar built into my world I'm afraid. Sentaurus is the most proactive of the light/good aligned deities, standing for honour and vigilance against chaos, evil and imbalance. His followers tend to be more paladin than clerical, typically, but we can absolutely make a cleric work - I have transposed the D&D clerical spells into Sentaurus equivalents. There are temples to Sentaurus, so there must be clerics within them! You also have clerics or "Wayfinders" of Oriellan (who is both the guide through wilderness and guardian of pathways and portals), healing "comforters" of Bethanen, and of course druidic types of the nature gods. In this world you can, if you wish, effectively play a cleric but roll up a ranger, druid or paladin and RP the clerical aspects of their character along with receiving some extra relevant clerical abilities specific to the deity of choice. If you're looking for an edgier cleric, there is Jephine (goddess of love), and Zolth (master of luck/fortune). If the family is of a merchant background (hence the wealth) there is also Delmar, the wealth-giver.

I've allocated this as our OOC thread for the adventure now. Any questions, or game mechanic stuff can go in here. If you wish, you can place an (OOC) tag within your game post to indicate that you have added something on here - just to help us all keep track. I'm working as fast as I can to build the online wiki (on Scabard.com) for this campaign, to which you can refer for more in-depth background should you wish. I'm a massive Scabard fan as a GM, writer and player, because it is just such an intuitive world-building tool. Player accounts on there are 100% free and there's no hard pressure sell to upgrade or anything like that. And no, I'm not the owner or on commission! I have written quite a bit of content for it however.
Our party will be a little larger than envisioned but I'm sure it will work well. I might roll the game starting point back a little to give players an opportunity to interact before the first proper plot encounter. Will post this as soon as possible.
Thank you for playing and, as a slightly rusty PBP GM, please give me a friendly pointer or two if there's improvements that can be made.

Awesome! I really like the idea of Oriellan, that sounds like it could work really well with the Light domain. "Illuminating the way through the (metaphorical or sometimes literal) darkness!" No aasimar is totally fine! I'll do variant human, if that works?
I think that fits quite a bit more with the character idea I have in mind as well as part of the sneaky snek secrets. LOL. I'll start working on a sheet and shoot you some of the ideas via DM to see what you think and find out what best fits the idea.
Not sure why it's not replying to your comment like I keep telling it to, but... what can you do! I'll include it above in a quote section.
I'd love to join with Avery, a young human who recently "parted ways" with his bardic college, seeking a more unconventional path to glory. Music was never his forte; instead, he fancies himself a rogue scholar, a wordsmith who wields poetry like a blade, and a man of the arts. His singing voice, while not exceptional, could hold its own, but Avery's journey is driven by a need to make a name for himself, to prove his worth beyond the expectations of his family back in his home village. With a quick mind and a silver tongue, he's ready to embark on a new chapter, one filled with adventure, discovery, and perhaps a bit of larceny.
That works fine. An unexplored/undiscovered part of the world will be ripe with opportunity for lore, history, the writing of verse and of course chronicling one's own heroic exploits! The god Morath "The scholar" would most likely be your patron deity. Morath thoroughly approves of those who actively seek out knowledge (though he equally approves of a well-run, orderly library!).
Cool! I added Avery to the campaign. When I was making him I settled on Eldritch Adept: Eyes of the Rune Keeper feat. So, he can read all writing. I think it'd make a great reason for why he "dropped out" of bard college... they actually "asked" him to leave after he started dabbling in forbidden stuff in the pursuit of knowledge. Not quite a full on warlock or anything, but certainly pact-curious. And, Morath sounds perfect for him. Went with the Sage background so he's all-in on rogue scholor vibe.

I'm probably laughing.
It is apparently so hard to program Aberrant Mind and Clockwork Soul spell-swapping into dndbeyond they had to remake the game without it rather than implement it.
I've worked out where in the world each of you has come from, based on your provided background info. Would you like this posted here, DM'd or added as notes to your character sheet? Also, to add some colour, a few notes on coinage in this setting:
GP: "Crown", "Gobbit" or "Bit" depending on situation. It is assumed that "Gobbit" is "Gold Bit", shortened and then this was shortened again!
SP: "Piece(es)" "Quart" or "Gill" Quart seems like an odd term, since there are ten to a Crown! Rumour has it that when an unscrupulous Chancellor managed the Belanior treasury, it was said that "only a quarter" of all silver coinage was genuine; hence "Quarts". The origin of Gill is completely lost to history but is most commonly used in rural settings. Possibly this was some kind of quarter-measurement that has fallen out of use.
CP "Penny" "Dit" or "Blue". Ditty means small in some dialects and so is a natural term (shortened) for the smallest of the coins in circulation. The tendency of copper to tarnish probably explains "blue" though this is a much less common term these days.

Game thread is up! An Adventure In The Mountains (Game Thread). Just a little scene-setting and a chance for characters to interact a little. I'll follow up as best I can, but bed and work beckon for now. I'll get back to you all with your home locations etc as time permits.

Sorry on my delay of posting. I kept meaning to get into the game thread, but my weekend kept hitting me with things to do over and over. Heading there to post now! Also, for those interested... here's an image I like to view Gwendallyn as!
RL first, always! Am posting from my phone on work breaks so will reformat properly when I get a chance.
Quick note on Gwendallyn's symbol of Delmar (The Wealth Giver). Delmar is patron deity of the Dwarves, along with his brother Vjolmar "The Crafter". And of all miners.
Vjolmar is additionally worshipped widely by any who craft or work raw materials into goods.
Delmar is also the patron deity of The Guild of Merchants, though their interpretation and worship does differ from that practiced by the Dwarves. It should be noted that Gwen is wearing the Dwarven version of Delmar's symbol (a golden gauntlet clutching a gem) rather than the golden-gloved hand of the Merchants.

Rin comes from the city of Karthenor which is a neutral border town between the kingdom of Belanior to the south and Carvos (where you are currently).
The city is possibly the most varied and cosmopolitan on the continent as it serves as a trade hub to the continent of Kelinath far to the west.
Rin may have quite a varied mix of heritage at work as a result.
