Levi ties up Erik, taking his scimitar and loots the other two bodies. "I'm severely wounded, so I'm gonna get patched up and loot the goblin corpses before heading out."
Gralden helps Levi to the medical tent where Captain Harlan is still caring for the wounded. He ask Levi what has happened. "I never liked those Black Fangs. One of our political supporters made me pledge to host a chapter to this mercenary band. I'm going to put them in the brig and eliminate their chapter house. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Do you think they have anything to do with the goblin attack?"
Captain Harlan thanks you for everything you've done, "You are always welcome here, in Briarwood."
Geared up with weapons and some fresh rations, accompanied by Gralden, you hit the road, headed back to the Capital City of Vesper, to report your findings to Lord Aldric.
The days pass uneventfully as you arrive in record time back to the King's Castle.
Entering the Council's Tower, Lord Aldric is there and he takes in your report about Briarwood Village, the Orc leading Goblins, the Goblin Raid, and the Black Fangs organization. "Did you manage to learn the name of the political supporter who petitioned for the Black Fangs? I'd be curious if there is more to these knaves."
Lord Aldric pulls out a chest from under a map table. "We recognize that you came here to study and we have much to teach you. However, your work as an investigator has proven invaluable. I have some leftover magic items in this chest, maybe I could entice you to take your badge and perform another investigation. This one will take you to Evergreen Hollow, not too far from here. The request for an Investigator came through just a couple days ago and had a message about shadows in the woods."
"Thank you Sir. Before I head there, I need to sell some things in town, so I will return momentarily." Levi takes the Wand of Magic Missiles.
"So you'll go on this next mission? That's great news. Show your badge to the innkeeper down the way and you can forgo the fee. Rest and take in some sights and report back here in the morning. I'm sure Gralden needs a day off as well."
The next day you meet up with Gralden who says, "I hear we're off to Evergreen Hollow. Tis a nice village." The trip takes you down lush roadways and is a stark difference than the long desolate trip to Briarwood and only takes a few days travel before you are pulling up to a large beautiful town with log cabins and tree houses 20 feet off the ground. Deep in the Silverwood Forest.
"Welcome to Evergreen Hollow. I'm Marshal Thorne. I'm the law in this town." He chuckles. "I hear you've come to help us with our little 'problem'. I appreciate that. We could use all the help we can get." He leads you into the town square, a round pond surrounded by beautiful white stones. He takes you to a yellow pine building with green painted shudders.
"This is my office and the town jail. We don't get a lot of law breakers around here but still I help out in lot of ways." He riffles through papers on his desk and tries to look busy. "Here is our problem. I haven't seen this but people have been talking and some people have seen these shadows in the woods. Now, no one's been seeing shadows here in town but you go far enough into the woods, you know, picking mushrooms or chasing quail, and you're bound to come across something that shouldn't be there. Like a person's shadow and then it disappears. It's the stranges thing."
"Help us solve this mystery. Can you find out what are these shadows? If they are evil, can you get rid of them for us?"
Player Characters can sell items at 50% or lower. Monster items having an ick factor like sub humans or undead should be either unsellable or at a lower rant than 50%. And non magical amunision is unsellable.
Items you craft will sell for 50% store price and items you find in perfect condition also 50%
Alright. Levi will go to the woods and look for shadows.

As you enter the woods you find human sized tracks that lead you to a strange pattern of dirt on the forest floor.
Roll an Arcana Check DC 13 to fully identify this arcane symbol
You can tell that this symbol was placed here either as part of a ritual or the result of spellcasting.
Roll another Arcana Check DC 15 to identify the radiant magic that still exists from the symbol.
Since some magic is powerful enough to identify without casting a spell or using detect magic a trained wizard can sometimes learn from using his "wizard sense"
While studying this shape you notice a blur approaching you.
Your arcana checks allow you to know two things about this symbol.
1. This symbol was left because an epic level ritual was cast here to open a portal to another plane 2. Some epic transmutation spells leave behind trans magic residue. Some chaos creatures, like shadows, are drawn to this residue like magnets and are compelled to consume it, making it inert.
The shadow dashes towards you but stops short and begins consuming the empty space around the arcane symbol. Clawing and biting, seemingly at the air. In just a quick moment is finishes the frantic feeding and sets it's eyes on you.
Pulls out a scroll and casts Magic Missile. 8 force damage. Bonus Action activate Bladesong. End turn.
S1 takes 8 damage. S1 (8/16)

The target dies if this reduces its Strength to 0. Otherwise, the reduction lasts until the target finishes a short or long rest. If a non-evil humanoid dies from this attack, a new shadow rises from the corpse 1d4 hours later.
