Trex puts out a hand and says, “We are terribly sorry about the situation. A yeti attack forced us out of our home and we were still panicked when we ran into the mine. The troubles we caused entirely stemmed from the fear of where we were going to be next, if you can believe it. I’d like to offer, on behalf of my clan, to help out in town and put this incident behind us. We’re willing to work for just food and shelter, and we have our talents. Termalaine will be richer for having us.”
Oarus crosses his arms and listens to this. “Uh huh. And that would mean taking in how many kobolds?”
“There’s 9 of us now. Really not that many new mouths, sir.”
The half-orc turns to the rest of the group. “And you all trust that they’re on our side? That they’re not aggressive at all? The trouble was really all an underdark creature?”
He considers it for a long moment before saying, “I’ll have to ask around and find uses for you all. There’s an old shack on the edge of the woods. You can stay there for the night, but this is on a trial basis. One problem and you’re all out of here.”
While Trex thanks him profusely, Oarus turns to the rest of the group, “Not exactly what I had in mind, but if it gets us our mine back then it will do. I already called in a room for you four at the inn. Come see me tomorrow and I’ll pay you for the job done, provided these little fellas can go a night without trouble.”
Trez finally stops thanking him long enough to say, “I’ll get them all and come let you know when we’re all here Mr. Speaker. And thank the rest of you for giving me a chance. I couldn’t have done it without you.” He turns and walks back towards the trail, clearly in a rush to get this over with.
" Aye! Glad you're amenable to this. If my companions agree perhaps we can make this a temporary situation. If we remove the yeti then the kolbolds could return home." Barnabus says to Oarus before he leaves.
"Aye, let us rest, get paid, then finish our quest. As long as these kolbolds behave it shouldn't be an issue." agrees Barnabus. He heads off to find their room.
Senushi a half-orc shivers even with wearing thick wool clothing as the cold robs him of any appreciation of this beautiful town. He hustles to the nearest Inn trying to find some warmth and brushes off the layers of snow that had accumulated on him during his travels before entering. He takes a seat at the nearest table and asks for the cheapest warm drink they have, even if that is just a cup of hot water.
After he regains feeling in his fingers again, he takes out a journal that has a simple penned map of Icewind Dale. His eyes are drawn to the coastline. Blast it where is that damnable ship. It could not have been pulled out to sea.
He takes a moment to check his coin pouch and finds it rather light. I am going to need to find a job before I can continue my search. He waves over the Innkeeper and asks, "Are there any quick paying jobs in town?"
The inn’s central floor is currently rowdy witg the mine closed down, it seems a number of out of work miners have taken to a drink together at the bar, along with several off-duty guards/soldiers.
Senushi, the innkeeper looks at you sympathetically and replies, “There was a bounty for some kobolds, but I hear the speaker found some group to handle it. I’m supposed to have rooms ready for them when they’re done, actually. You can always try the mines if you don’t mind a long workday,” he says with a shrug.
Meanwhile, after leaving the speaker, Nox turns to the rest of the party and says, “Lisyen, I almost got dragged to my death in there. Gave me some perspective. Thank you for saving me, and good luck with Bremen, but I think I should cut out in the morning. This life isn’t for me anymore.”
He says thisjyst as you reach the in , whete the innkeeper looks up from the half-orc asking about jobs and recognizes your descriptions. “Speak o’ the devil,” he mutters.
”You folks the ones feom the mine? Speaker Mathias insisted that your rooms were on him tonight.” He produces a pair of room keys. The rooms are well furnished, with bearskin rugs, clean beds (somewhat lacking in blankets),, carved dressers, and mirrors on the backs of the doors.
Additionally, you’ve hit a milestone by completing this quest. Morkeleb, Barnabus, and Jar gain a level when they complete their long rest tonight, reaching Level Three. Feel free to RP some before that though.
We’re going to stick to 5e 2014, yeah. It’s what we’re most familiar with, and the module was written with it in mind. My willingness to test drive new content is limited to short shots and not long campaigns.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, Jar settled into his usual spot by the frozen waterfall just outside town. The memory of the lapping of water providing a serene backdrop for his evening meditation. He began his practice, moving through the familiar forms with grace and precision, each motion a testament to years of discipline and dedication.
As Jar entered a deep meditative state, he felt an unusual presence. Opening his eyes, he saw a figure cloaked in white, their face obscured by a hood. The figure extended a hand, and without a word, Jar felt a surge of energy flow through him. Visions of healing and mercy filled his mind, showing him a path he had never considered before.
When Jar awoke the next morning, he felt different. His hands glowed with a faint, soothing light, and he instinctively knew how to mend wounds and ease suffering. The teachings of the Way of Mercy had been imparted to him overnight, a gift from the mysterious figure. With this newfound power, Jar vowed to use his abilities to bring peace and healing to those in need.
Senushi seriously considers trying his hand at mining but upon hearing how the rooms are free for some the individuals that entered the Inn he stands to introduce himself. "Well met I am Senushi and I hear you took care of some kind of problem with kobolds. Do any of you mind telling me what happened?"
Barnabus accepts the keys, which he then distributes.
"Aye, seems was a misunderstanding of sorts. Thars a bigger threat a foot though." Barnabus pauses and gives Senushi a good look up and down sizing him up. "Barnabus Ironheel son of Andibus. You lookin' for work? Might be you can tag along if ya like. At yer own risk mind ya. What say ya?"
(apologies, I'm having a really busy time at work, 12 hour days and not really able to do D&D there, get home and just enough time to do 1-2 family things and crash. I'm not losing interest in the campaign, just a really tight spot, I think tomorrow will look a lot better hopefully, please bear with me)
"I have worn many hats before and don't mind donning the hat of a mercenary if that is what you group is. Plus, my funds are rather low at the moment. Can you tell me what your plans are?" says Senushi in an appreciative tone.
Morkeleb tosses the sack of heads at Senushi and says, "Here, catch. I'm tired of carrying these around. You stick with us, help us out, you'll get rewarded. We gotta deliver these to... someone in Bremen. We'll probably leave at first light, well, I suppose that's no longer a literal thing around here, but upon waking next morning, you know what I mean. Time is of the essence."
If Senushi cares to look into this sack, he would see two severed heads, one quite burned and decayed, the other frozen into an expression of surprise.
"Well call it what you like, but the safety of Ten Towns is at stake. So if'n you're taggin' along we'll explain in the room." Barnabus replies to Senushi. Leaning in he continues in a lowered tone, "Don't wanna say too much here. No need to spook people."
Barnabus heads off to the rooms. (If Senushi follows he will explain everything that has happened and what is to come)
Senushi opens the sack and is unfazed by the severed heads that alludes to that Senushi is not just some tavern hopping minstrel. He then carries the sack and follows Barnabus to the room. Well at least I will have a place to sleep tonight.
Once the door to the bedroom is closed, he then asks "I believe we have the needed privacy. So, who wants these heads in Bremen and why?"
Barnabus urges Trex to make his caes.

"Aye, let us rest, get paid, then finish our quest. As long as these kolbolds behave it shouldn't be an issue." agrees Barnabus. He heads off to find their room.

(Yeah I agree with that)
