Senushi admires Morkeleb's confidence, and he looks to his own physique and knows he would be terrible for a test of strength "Well if you lads are willing then so be it, I will give it a go as well"
The goliaths pull out a rope, and the game begins. It’s a very even battle as each of you alternately feel yourselves pulled toward a line drawn in the snow or a good footing on the ground as you pull back. After almost two full minutes of neither side budging significantly, one of the goliaths slips up ever so slightly and you all take advantage with a mighty heave. The lead goliath is pulled across the line and the game is over.
They’re surprised, clearly having expected to win, but are good sports about it, clapping you all on the backs excitedly and talking.
”We aren’t training hard enough boys. Double time next session.”
To Jar: “Excellent showing brother! Tell us, what clan are you from?”
To Barnabus: “Was always told never to try outdrinking or outdigging a dwarf. I’ll need to add this to the list!”
To Morkeleb: “You’ve got a fine crew here.”
To Senushi: “You hold up well for your size. Good game lad!”
The goliaths are then happy to take your equipment for the walk to town. You get the sense they actually know where you’re going as they chat you up along the way.
Walking through the falling snow and cold winds, the cold seeps into your bones. You were farther off course than you thought, as the goliaths confirm the walk will be close to two hours. I’ll need a DC 12 Con Save against exhaustion from everyone, with advantage since your lightened packs make the march less difficult.
"Aye! Was a good contest! Once again an Ironheal holds their ground." Barnabus puffs out his chest a bit at having succesfully defended the family name.
Having gained the respect of the grizzled dwarf, Barnabus regales the men with tales of past Ironheal family deeds. Envigored by the success of the contest and engrossed in discussion with the Goliaths, Barnabus barely notices the frigid weather.
Barnabus, the Goliaths trade stories with you the whole way. Theirs mostly involve hunts and sporting events with their clan.
Senushi, one sees you starting to fall behind and grips your wrist, dragging you along so you son’t get lost in the snow.
Jar, one of them, Uther, is insistent on chatting you up. Some of it is stories of home, but he is very curious which of the goliath clans you hail from.
After some time and some banter, your group pulls onto a cleared footpath and rounds a corner, bringing Targos into view. This town is circled by a wooden wall, which extends out into the neighboring lake. Just a quick glance at the protected harbor confirms that this is the biggest fishing area in Ten-Towns. The snow is heavy in this town, and it is clear that people have been struggling to keep the paths clear. The last stretch to reach town is entirely uphill.
As you enter, the goliaths return your equipment, which is as it was. Paavu shakes all of your hands and wishes you well. "The boys and i have to return this sled and get our reward. Safe travels to you my friends. May we meet again in our adventures." The rest express similar sentiments and take their leave.
Areas of Interest in town include:
- The Luskan Arms: A large common house that serves as a local inn. - Three Flags Sailing: A tavern by the lake, with a strangely subdued atmosphere. - Triglio: A general store that seems to sell all standard equipment except fishing gear.
Based on your map, you know that there are two routes to Caer-Konig from here. You could continue following the trails to reach Bryn Shandar, a town you can probably reach by what used to be nightfall, then take a curving road through Caer-Dineval and eventually reach your destination. Or you could try hiking through the hills east of town for a more direct route. The route through the towns is probably safer, but will take you longer. The route through the hills carries more potential danger, but one night of camping out there and you could reach your destination by the end of the next day.
You may also explore Targos as you desire, or spend the night and decide in the morning.
Barnabus discovers the Luskan to be a remarkably old building. it is decorated with artistically torn sails, and has remarkably sturdy walls, though parts of the floorboards are rotting and there's a slight draft coming from somewhere. you can tell much of the decor consists of antiques. A bald human male greets you, though you can tell by looking at him that in spite of the smile, he is miserable.
"Welcome to the Luskan. It'll be a silver for the night, 2 if you want a 4-person suite. We serve breakfast at 7. If you're one for a gruesome show, there's one in the town square tonight. Stay inside if you're not one for wanton violence."
“Thank you, here’s your room key. And no, there’s nothing to be stopped. Tonight we sacrifice to the Frostmaiden and ask her to end this winter, again. You’re from out of town so they can’t make you draw lots; just letting you know because some guests have a bloodlust for that sort of thing.”
Morkeleb says,
"I'm up for any chance at glory! Come on lads, they may tower over us but we're stronger than we look!"
Senushi admires Morkeleb's confidence, and he looks to his own physique and knows he would be terrible for a test of strength "Well if you lads are willing then so be it, I will give it a go as well"
Jar perks up when he hears the challenge. "I am in and will aid us to be victorious."

"Aye, check yer gear men. Let's resupply, get a good night's rest and head off in the morning." suggests Barnabus. The dwarf stalks off to the Luskan.

Barnabus produces the 2 silver required for the room(s). Hearing the warning raises his protection instincts.
"Aye, what do you mean? What's going on? You don't sound supportive. Is this something to be stopped?"

Morkeleb is keen to watch the proceedings.
"Aye, Well we'll just see about that." says Barnabus cooley. He heads out with a determined look towards the square.
