Backstory/History:
Stony Tark was born in the bustling gnomish enclave of Gearsville, known for its intricate clockwork inventions and innovative minds. Even as a young gnome, Stony showed an exceptional talent for tinkering. Instead of playing with wooden toys, he preferred to dismantle and reassemble complex devices, often improving them in unexpected ways. His parents, both respected inventors, encouraged his curiosity, although they sometimes regretted giving him free access to their workshop.
One day, while exploring the depths of his parents' cluttered workshop, Stony stumbled upon a dusty, old book titled "Mechanical Marvels and Mystical Machinations." The book detailed ancient and powerful suits of armor that could enhance the wearer's abilities. Intrigued and inspired, Stony decided he would create the ultimate armor, something that would not only protect but also augment its wearer in amazing ways.
Stony’s initial attempts at creating powered armor were... explosive, to say the least. However, each failure only fueled his determination. He earned a reputation in Gearsville for his persistent optimism, often quipping, "If at first you don’t succeed, add more gears!" His workshop, a chaotic symphony of clanking metal and whirring gizmos, became a hub of activity as he tirelessly worked on his project.
Stony's breakthrough came when he crafted a prototype suit of armor, which he affectionately named the "Iron Gnome" suit. This suit was a marvel of gnomish engineering, featuring enhanced strength, built-in tools, and a dazzling array of gadgets. It wasn't perfect, but it was a start. News of Stony's remarkable invention spread beyond Gearsville, eventually catching the attention of a human inventor known only by the initials T.S. This enigmatic figure visited Gearsville under the guise of a curious benefactor, offering Stony resources and connections in exchange for learning more about his Iron Gnome suit.
Naive and eager to share his work, Stony welcomed T.S. into his workshop, demonstrating the suit's capabilities and explaining his design philosophy. T.S. seemed genuinely impressed and took copious notes before departing with promises of collaboration. A few months later, Stony was stunned to hear news reports of a new hero in the human lands, one called "Iron Man." This hero's armor bore a striking resemblance to Stony's Iron Gnome suit, albeit larger and more polished. Realizing he had been duped, Stony yelled in frustration. "It should have been the Iron Gnome!"
Feeling betrayed and determined to set things right, Stony vowed to continue improving his inventions and prove that the original Iron Gnome was the superior creation. He began upgrading his suit, adding new features and enhancing its capabilities, all while planning to track down T.S. and reclaim his rightful legacy.
Armed with his trusty tools, a sharp mind, and an ever-optimistic attitude, Stony Tark, the true Iron Gnome, set off on a new adventure. He would face dangers and challenges, but with enough gears, gadgets, and gumption, there was no problem he couldn't solve. After all, why be just another tinkerer when you could be an armored, adventuring, one-gnome powerhouse?

Background: Rewarded (Magic Initiative feat... If no Backgrounds with Feats no problem, just saw others taking so...)
Alignment: Neutral Good
Personality: Simple. Perhaps even a simpleton. Things are good and bad. People he thinks are friends are good. People they say are bad are bad. He enjoys pounding the bad with his maul. That is good. (May even voluntarily lower his stats in Int and Wis... Definitely will play it lower.)
Backstory/History: Thunk was just always around. Always available. You need a wagon pushed out of the mud, call Thunk. You need firewood chopped or hay carried or a structure torn down, call Thunk. Thunk doesn't ask questions, Thunk doesn't need payment. If you are kind you feed Thunk and give him a pint or two. If you are unkind you whip him across the back to get him to work faster. Thunk accepts both with a dopey smile and a "Thank ya." Thunk just kind of belonged to the village and the villagers kept him busy... And also fed. For through their generosity or other means, Thunk ate. Thunk ate a lot.
Things changed when the strangers passed through. A little gnome and a big imposing goliath they were. They were just passing through but they of course stopped at the tavern. It was about the only thing in the village worth stopping at. The gnome made some jokes and sang some dirty songs at the expense of Thunk. Thunk sat in his corner nursing his ale and smiled and laughed like the others did, almost as if he understood the jokes. The goliath challenged Thunk to an arm wrestling contest. Thunk agreed. Thunk agreed to anything. Thunk lost. To be fair he didn't really know how the game worked and they had to show him three times. The goliath gloated and bragged but also clapped Thunk on the back and told him he was a worthy opponent. "Thank ya," Thunk said. It is what Thunk said.
Before departing, the goliath got a twinkle in his eye. "No! No, no, no! You promised!" the gnome demanded. The goliath only smiled. He dug around in his gear for a bit then pulled out a deck of cards. Splaying the cards out face down he told Thunk to pick a card... Thunk agreed. Thunk always agreed. "Huh, nothing... That's no fun!" the goliath insisted and soon her and his gnome companion were on their way. Thunk... Thunk stayed. For a little while. But all the villagers agreed, whatever it was that got Thunk moving it had something to do with that Goliath and Gnome!
The drawing of the card did indeed do something to Thunk. The what is a bit... difficult in knowing. It's hard to see motivation grow in someone. Or yearning. Or a sense of adventure. But after pulling that card, grow they did inside of Thunk. And as his feet carried him out of town there was something else as well... A friend. A little friend who whispered silently to him and helped him understand things. Sometime the friend was an owl. Sometimes a weasel. Once it was crab but Thunk worried and worried that he would drown not being in the water... But the friend promised Thunk they would find adventure together, and a life better than doing other people's chores.
(Tried to weave the rewarded background and the magic initiate from it into the history... Had a little fun with it. I figure Thunk doesn't know he is casting Find Familiar so much as he just finds a little friend when he needs one... *shrug*)
Wow, with 18 wonderful applications it was really hard to do this even with deciding to have two groups! If you were not picked, please know I will still keep this thread to draw from if I have dropouts, which does usually tend to happen so you may yet get a chance to play in the future!
Here are the two groups! You'll be receiving a PM from me shortly. :)
