As you return to the four way intersection, the chanting gets louder and louder. There is a series of stairs that lead down into the dark to the west. In the shadows, you can see as they end on a landing and twist back on themselves leading deeper underground to the east. The chanting is coming up the stairs loudly, though the echo makes it nearly impossible to discern the actual words.
Rynna chafes her arms. What were they saying? She strained her ears but they might as well be full of wax. With a sigh she follows the others, knowing she'd find out soon.
As you head down the stairs, the chanting gets louder and louder with every step. As you get closer to the bottom, you start to hear more clearly the words they are chanting. The stairway levels off before the hallway turns sharply right, leading to another stairwell pushing deeper into the darkness. As you approach the turn, you hear “He is the Ancient. He is the Land.” being chanted over and over again.
Rynna scowls at the chant which now echoed through her mind with all the stubbornness of a billygoat. Chauntea was the land, from which all bounty flowed. This 'He' was just a fibber. Not... that she wanted to meet anyone who thought he was a god. Those types weren't the polite, ask you over for tea, sort. Ol'Berta always said that was the sort that ended up trying to become a Demilitch, although why any wizard wanted to get rid of their thumbs, or anything else, she didn't know.
Creak starts mimicking the chant as he begins to do the Frankenstein march, arms out and locked legs. After a moment, he stops and chitters a laugh, “Catchy!- Crazy!- But- Catchy!”

Balmaris, as you think on the chanting, you do remember some of what was found in the letters and books in the hidden room upstairs. It would seem that they are speaking of this Strahd Von Zarovich character.
"It seems the chanting may be referring to this Strahd von Zarovich character, anyone who can instill this kind of fervor in to people should be avoided in my opinion."
"Anyone who could garner worship like this must be powerful, it might be best to allign ourselves with such a force, could prove useful, and it's better than being on his bad side."
The room you are in has no other doors, save for the one you entered.
Alright, then back up to the four-way intersection, then North!

Gralwynn gives Creak another hit of Guidance, before stopping at approximately 2/3 of the way down the stairs. "G'wnna need a head start for this"

With my researcher background am I able to determine who or what they might be chanting about?

"It's spooky and insulting to Chauntea," Rynna grumbles. "Let's see if we can find a way to stop it before I get a head ache."
"Judging from what's happened in this house so far, I fear that you getting a headache might be the best thing that this chanting could bring about."

Creak shivers and slides away from his shadow, “Best thing. Best thing.” He’ll continue leading down the stairs.

Thinking back to the letter of Strahd’s to his own worshipers, Creak violently shakes his head, “Bad-bad-bad-bad-no.”

"Folk like that don't have a good side," Rynna muttered to herself.
She'd heard plenty of stories and she didn't fancy experiencing the reality.
