Iólinders first bolt impales the caster in the chest. She falls to the ground, dead. Surprisingly quick, the cleric loads and shoots a second bolt, this time at the large kobold leader. He is struck hard, the bolt sticking out of a shoulder. (He is near death). Iólinder also sees a collar around the leaders neck as he takes his shot. It looks like the ones the wolves were wearing. Strange.
-----> Vydar (also Vydar, make a perception roll)
We have a critically injured Kobold leader, a small kobold attacking Amdaeng, and two sleeping Kobolds.
Seeing Amdaeng being attacked while the others seem to have the leader handled, Vydar rushes over to the small Kobold and grabs it by the horns. Then lightning bursts around his hands engulfing the creature in electricity.
Vydar catches the little guy off guard, as he was facing off against Amdaeng. between being wet from the swim and the surprise, he is fried to a crisp by the electrical current.
Across the lake, Vydar catches a glimpse of movement near Amdaeng. (his darkvision is 120). Two very large snow white weasels (maybe 8 feet long) climb right down the cliff face and attack Paevira.
"Paevira!"Vydar shouts releasing the now fried kobold corpse and letting it splash into the water. Knowing he can't get to her in time, he prepares to cast a spell. (Next round obviously)
(It is too far and too dark for anyone to see the other side of the lake at this time, unless you have (dark vision of 120) or someone has another way to create light on banks.) Clearly, Vydar sees something of concern.
"Let's finish them and find a way in! We may be in time to get out hands on the artifact first this time!"

"A rightful place awaits you in the Realms Above, in the Land of the Great Light. Come in peace, and live beneath the sun again, where trees and flowers grow."
— The message of Eilistraee to all decent drow.
"Run thy sword across my chains, Silver Lady, that I may join your dance.”
Lev's gut clenches as Vydar yell's out Paevira's name. It is clear by the crow's voice that something was very wrong. He grits his teeth, willing himself not to mess up again. He's been utterly useless during this fight, he needs to get back in the game.
Unfortunately, he can't see far enough to tell what's going on with Paevira, and he needs to deal with this bloody kobold first lest he risk getting knocked out himself. So, he lets out an angry yet determined cry--probably the loudest noise anyone has heard from him so far, and once more charges the foe before him.
At almost the same time Lev and Zarbyn are able to take down the large armored kobold. He falls to the ground, a metal collar falls off his neck and tarnishes.
Amdaeng is able to disable the two sleeping kobolds. They are now unconscious at 1 hp each.
Vydar, the only one who can see that far, sees two huge white weasels grab Paevira with their mouths. She seems to fall, either from the force of their large size, or due to being unconscious. Then a very concerning and strange site. A third weasel climbs vertically down the cliff, but he is being ridden by a kobold. While she is being held by the two other weasels, the rider throws a large net over Paevira. Then he throws her limb body over the shoulders of the huge weasel, and the three creatures scurry up the cliff and out of the crater, out of sight of Vydar. He sees now way to get to her at this point. She is lost to them.
It is dark once again, unless someone lights torches. There are two unconscious kobolds. Two female kobolds with cloaks, and the large leader Kobold to search if you wish. All are at the base of the 60 foot tall pyramid. No light or electrical activity comes from the point of the pyramid. No other stone guardians are visible at the moment.
Amdaeng watched Paeviras kidnapping gobsmacked....she has no way to get there!
She slumps down between the two unconscous kobolds, " Will they hurt her? Gangs in the Fang would hold people for ransom sometimes....will they do that?"
Searching the bodies, the two casters both have a dull amulet around their neck. One has a wand of some sort. The leader has a very nice set of studded leather that could fit someone with some modifications ( kobolds are short)
one female caster has a map of the pyramid and crater. It seems there is an entrance marked at the top.
Amdaeng guesses the women are the leaders. The other kobolds including the large one all have obedience collars on. But the two women have these dull amulets.
in addition, the pcs have inherited Paeviras whip, which is called Natalie Storms whip. I will say it is on the cart with Charlie, who you left at the top of the crater. (if you add it to your inventory, it is a custom home-brew item)
Iólinder let out a short victory cry at the sight of the kobolds going down. It was cut short by Vydar crying out Paevira's name. He could not clearly see what happened in the dark beyond his sight. The bright red hair of the elf danced on the shore across the lake but dark shadows crept down to snatch her up. Iólinder had no idea what they were but in the blink of an eye Paevira was gone, dragged into the night. He cursed himself and his helplessness being too far to intervene.
Amdaeng watched Paeviras kidnapping gobsmacked....she has no way to get there!
She slumps down between the two unconscous kobolds, " Will they hurt her? Gangs in the Fang would hold people for ransom sometimes....will they do that?"
Iólinder's mind raced. 'I doubt it.'He said hoping it was true. 'We were killing their allies and they would be in their right if they took out one of ours. Yet they went the effort to capture her alive. That means she is more valuable alive than dead.'His brow furrowed. 'For now at least.'
He looked at the pyramid. 'The kobolds want something inside here. Perhaps we could trade it for Paevira if we're quick enough.'
He knelt down at the downed kobolds. Perhaps there was something on them that could aid them in breaching the pyramid. In particular the amulets, map and wand caught his eyes.
What would be needed to inspect those last three for more information?
(A short rest for the items, the map is a map showing an entrance at the tip of the pyramid. Some of the PC's are pretty damaged such as Lev.)
When torch light is shown on the belongings, Amdaeng sees the map and the pyramid. Her eyes make out something that was not seen without the heat of the torch. Drawn on top 4 sides triangle of the top are squiggle lines, simulating writing, which she surmises indicates that something is written on each side. Maybe a key or code of some sort.
As the Kobold leader falls, Lev wastes no time in running to the edge of the shore in a vain attempt to see what's going on with Paevira. It takes a minute for him to realize that she's gone, after which he whirls around to look at Vydar, "What happened?" He snaps. "Where is she?"
Once the drow explains to everyone what he saw in the darkness, all of the adrenaline suddenly leaves Lev's body and he slumps over slightly in defeat. "No." he says shakily, turning to look into the darkness where the elven woman had disappeared. He hadn't even been there to see it happen. He collapses to his knees, quivering in anger and pain. He's looking pretty messed up, both mentally and physically. "No...How could I let this happen... not again."
It really hadn't been all that long since he met these people, yet they were his comrades now. They were his responsibility. Yet somehow he failed again. He clenches his teeth and his fists, griping his glaive before pushing himself back to his feet. He wavers a little, eyes downcast as the others talk about what to do. He has his doubts about making a trade. Part of him feels like doing so would be foolish considering... well, the possible ramifications. Yet there has to be some way to right this wrong.
He blinks as a torch is lit, the light of which illuminates his weary face. "Let's go," he says gruffly, taking a step towards the entrance of the pyramid. In spite of his wounds, he still intends to be the first to enter.
Vydar watches in horror as Paevira is suddenly snatched up by the weasels and the Kobold. "NO YOU BASTARDS!" He fires a bolt of flame at the retreating Kobold, but misses terribly. "DAMN IT!"
He paces back and forth as the flame fades, knowing he's helpless in this moment and hating it. When the others rush over asking what happened, he explains angrily. "GAH! I knew we should have stayed together!"
He at Iolinder when the half-elf mentions the possibility of a trade. Are Kobolds really smart enough for that? TCH doesn't matter, they were clearly under someone else's command. Plus what Iolinder says makes sense, they could have just killed her, but they didn't.
At first elated, then crushed by the turn of events, you gather what you find and being climbing the pyramid (There are still two unconscious Kobolds with collars on their necks)
There are 6 levels and it takes a few minutes to climb to the top. When you arrive you see writing going around the pyramid.
Speak the phrase of praise, or face your demise
You see lightning glyphs, on all four sides, begin to glow slightly. They appear to have much of their charge spent from the prior battle. Clearly, the Kobolds failed, which summoned the guardian and the lighting. But, they are active again.
Hearing all the shouting from his allies after the fighting is over confuses Zarbyn until he realizes that somehow the kobolds have Paevira. There must have been more of them that weren't trying to get into the pyramid, at least not right away.
"Iolinder's right, they captured her for a reason, probably to ransom her for whatever they were after inside the pyramid. She should be safe until then."
Zarbyn decides now that the fighting is over it's a good time to light a torch, especially if they were planning on exploring the pyramid.
"Did anybody get hurt during the fight? Are we ok to continue?"
