Esta crouches on her heels as she watches most of the party descending into the sewers. She sighs, closing her eyes momentarily before laughing and saying out loud "Why do I always find myself in places like this? I try to keep myself clean but noooo..."
She looks at from the vent entrance back to Jesa, nodding in agreement - "Yes I think that would have been a better entrance also. But as these have already jumped in, best we stick together. Especially if we are to find anything down there."
With that, she brings her hood up and descends into the vent, following the party but quietly - I could follow these easily with the noise they are making - ensuring to stick with shadows using her cunning to move gracefully. Stealth: 25
Eithne pauses when Jesa begins to speculate—and shrugs: "The Inverse appears to be made up of underground tunnels—so it should be down here. I was hoping to find tracks to follow that were compatible with those of our quarry."
"Of course, if Concord Terminus also had access to The Inverse, you're right, it might be a better place to start... since Beltha committed the theft there" the savage wanderer admits—and waits, ready to continue either along the current route or towards Concord Terminus.
A hundred questions about the size of The Inverse and if there is a map somewhere. Rogferr walks past Jesa.
“It seems we are a group that jumps first and thinks of a plan later. This might end up taking longer than 19 hours. At least it won't be boring.”
Rogferr will follow the rest and when Eithne questions if they should continue on this path Rogferr seems uninterested in making that decision.
“I will stay in the back to watch the rear. As we are attempting to find someone, would any of you consider yourself adept at tracking people?”
The first person that claims to be good at tracking Rogferr will instruct Hypnos to stay close to them so that Rogferr can cast Guidance on them for Survival Rolls. As they walk Rogferr will attempt to keep track of direction and map the locations the party travels.
When you all slip down the vent, it is a short drop at an angle to a larger passage below, although not by much. The ticking of the large wheel that dominates Automata is still present down here as you walk through a metallic tunnel (imagine almost every science fiction passage here) but it is completely dark (you'll need a light source or darkvision). Due to the nature of the space, it is impossible to track anyone through here at the moment. Thankfully, after a few turns, you are met with a set of stairs that descend further, although you would notice that the stairs make an odd sort of turn partway down. You don't see any other creatures or signage in the immediate area.
(Make a check of your choice if you wish to understand what's going on or how to proceed, or anything along those lines.)
[[ OOC: Eithne is an elf, so she has Darkvision with a range of 60 ft. ]]
"I've lived in the wilderness for a long time..." Eithne volunteers. "It's certainly not the same environment here, it might be more difficult, but I still have hope of finding and following tracks."
'You could have let someone else volunteer, Eithne...' the Voices in her head offer their unsolicited opinion. 'Risks, always risks... You risk too much, Eithne!' This time, however, the Voices are more resigned than pressing, so the lone survivor manages to ignore them without much effort and concentrate on her task.
Arriving at stairs that make an odd sort of turn partway down, the savage wanderer stops and examines them warily, straining her eyes in the hope of noticing details that will reveal what's going on...
(OOC - Jesa also has Darkvision, because... well... type of species she is.)
Once she slid down the shaft, Jesa simply follows into the larger passage on down the stairs. She tries to judge where they might be in relation to the city above. Though she's not all that sure if it matters much down here. (Survival: 14)
Faith has both Darkvision, and the ability to create light, if anyone needs it. Though even if everyone has darkvision, light is still handy to avoid disadvantage on perception checks.
(OOC: Rogferr can use his familiars’ senses as a bonus action so he can go without light if everyone else is fine.)
Seeing that it is pitch dark Rogferr requests that Hypnos remain on his shoulder so that he can use the Owls' sight. Rogferr looks through his familiar senses in order to see in the dark.
“I have a way to see without light but if anyone needs light to see I can help with that."
Rogferr attempts to use his knowledge of history in order to gain some understanding of the layout.
Eithne this is all very strange to you perhaps, so unlike the natural world.
Jessa, you're pretty sure the tunnels are following the streets above, but without markers of some kind it's really hard to tell exactly where you are, although you think you are heading in the general direction of the train depot.
Rogferr, this place is a real mystery to you!
Gimble, you quickly notice that just past where the stairs take an odd turn there are more stairs and walkways...but they are upside down...
[[ OOC: Upside down... It must be a zone of reversed gravity — which would also explain the name 'Inverse'! But Eithne can't make that assumption yet, because she hasn't noticed that detail at all. ]]
Eithne, puzzled, admits: "I thought I noticed something strange—but I don't know what. Maybe it's actually all normal. Did you notice anything? Shall we try to continue anyway?"
While still looking around warily, Eithne resumes the hunt with Jesa.
'You should stop, Eithne...' the Voices in her head plead. 'If you sense danger, you should let others go ahead.' 'Not all dangers are visible, Eithne...' '...But not all are real either' the lone survivor mentally replies. 'If I want to find help, I must first provide it. And those who are not afraid of dying only die once—and at least they do so... after having actually lived.'
As Jessa descends the odd stairs, she gets about 30 feet below the surface, and at the odd bend the rest of you watch as she is suddenly pulled around the stairs so she is standing almost underneath you and not falling. Jessa, after you get pulled around, you don't feel like you could fall or are hanging upside down, but like gravity has flipped as well, pulling you toward the bend in the stairs.
(This is a lot like the late scenes in the movie Labyrinth)
Eithne instinctively reaches out, trying to catch Jessa before she falls... and then she realizes that Jessa doesn't fall at all!
The savage stranger is frozen for a moment, clearly uncomfortable with the phenomenon... and she puts her hands to her temples, the pain of the Voices in her head, which together express her own discomfort, amplifying it incredibly.
But finally the lone survivor, realizing that the other doesn't seem to have suffered any harm from proceeding, reaches her, muttering: "Now the name of this place, 'The Inverse,' definitely makes a lot more sense" and does her best to continue following tracks as she had done until recently.

Gimble will spend the next 10 minutes quietly casting prestidigitation in order to create a cleaning device for Eata to have (gnomish tinkering)
