By my calculations, 14 + 18 + 18 + 18 + 16 + 16 = 100. Maybe it's calculating your scores before the bonuses were applied? I would like everyone to be 90 or less after all the bonuses. If it were me, I'd shave 6 from STR (you really don't need it - you can always cast cantrips, etc, unless you get silenced I guess, but its uncommon that your strength will really matter much), then I'd take 2 from CON, and either 2 from WIS or CHA depending on what skills you're focusing on. Or I'd just take 6 from STR and 4 from CON, if you're aiming for high overall leadership stats.

Sorry about that, can you point me in the direct of the point buy system you'd like me to use? The PHB only allows for you to spend 27 pts and caps your stats at 15, with a 15 costing 9 pts. Following that buy system then an 18 would cost 15 pts?
No worries! That's strange though - it doesn't allow you to just manually adjust them? I'm sort of using a homebrew system for points you could say - since we're content sharing, you should be able to use my source materials, and maybe that'll allow you to do the manual adjustments? If you'd like, you can just tell me what you want your scores to be, and I can set them, because I think it'll allow me to from my end.
If anyone else has some tips for your soon to be wizard companion, feel free to share. :)
I did min in Dnd Beyond. I rolled on the site here, a few times and took the best of each roll. Then I manually plopped them and made strength a negative bc it felt like the right thing for a 100 yr old warlock gnome. Hope that helps
didn't think rolling was an option? I just took Hnefa's base stats and used those. Hope it's ok now. I was unable to access the homebrew content to use the official point buy system.
Thanks! Yup, you're all set now. If you want to change them around, you can do so until after the prologue portion of the adventure so long as the total doesn't increase over 90. The prologue is over once the person you're supposed to meet arrives. Also, I didn't realize there might be difficulty setting stats as a player, so to anyone under 90, if you want me to boost one or more of your stats so that you get to 90, that's OK. I don't want anyone to feel like it's unfair. Whenever each of you are ready, head over to the IC thread and answer the prologue question. I know I directed it toward Gerem (Masqueraider), but it's not really important who goes first. You'll each have a brief interaction with the Barkeeper before the contact arrives, is all - but it gives you a chance to describe anything you want the others to know about your character, and sort of break the ice getting IC (in character).
Started on Hope, a young and unexperienced asimar cleric. Background is in notes section for the DM to see. Still need to assign spells, equipment, and physical description.
To generate stats, I rolled on DNDBeyond till I got a set that wasn't below the minimum, till I got one that was slightly above Max. I then dropped STR to balance and to round up some of the odd stats.
Thanks for the input, JSenecal - I'm sure an Asimar cleric will come in very handy; I was beginning to wonder if anyone would roll a healer. It's now a pretty well-rounded group, really.
Regarding rolling - if I'm not mistaken, I believe you can roll multiple sets and then assign attributes from the best scores across sets. Some (if not most) DMs would probably consider that cheating, but it's not in my campaign so long as it lands you in the 80-90 range.
For anyone in the campaign with an Obsidian Portal account, you can join my campaign there as well - I think you can do so with a free account, but I'm not sure. If not, its okay, we can certainly handle everything from here.
I've submitted a Harengon Sorcerer. If that's acceptable. I've never done a play by post before. My last D&D campaign was AD&D back in the 80s. I hope to be able to get back into D&D and can't find any open groups around here.
I see that you limited it to the first six. Did I make it? Can you make a list of who did?
Yes you did! Welcome. And to your other question, sure why not? I'm new to this as well (Play by Post, and the site, not D&D or DMing), and I used to play in the 80s and 90s as well - that's when I used to play in person games I mean. I've never really stopped, but have taken little breaks. I missed 4e entirely - I had been playing 3.5, then next time I looked it was 5e, and it didn't seem like it was that long later lol...
Here's a list by the username of the player, and their character name, race, and class:
Masqueraider: Geren Damkrach, Human (M), Rogue
Ophiuchu5: Hnefa Ungol, Goliath (F), Fighter
Deconblu: Augustus "Gus" Leafleaf, Human (M), Wizard
JSenecal: Dawn, Asimar (F), Cleric
Antlan: Old Eltran Wibblerobble, Gnome (M), Warlock
GreyJohnBallSmasher: Bree, Harengon (F), Sorcerer
Also, note that the IC (In Character) thread has already started - its probably on the next page now. I'm guessing most people are sleeping now. I keep weird hours, and sleep in increments of 3-4 hours twice a day, so its part of the reason I was attracted to play by post, and I'm guessing the same for most of the other players - attracted to it because of being busy or having odd hours I mean. Whatever pace the campaign progresses is fine with me. It's also the holiday season, so I expect people may be busy a lot coming up.
It'd be nice to know what timezone everyone is in, btw - I'm in California, so Pacific time.
I think Dawn is finished, though I need to update her image to match the equipment I bought for her. I selected Eyes of the Eagle as her magic item, to allow her to look for problems even from the back of the group. But if someone else want's that, I'll be happy to pick something else.
As for my experience, I've been playing and running D&D since the mid 70's, starting before AD&D came out. I bought into AD&D in a big way, mostly skipped 2e (played it a few times, but never bought anything, was into supers games then), bought the basic books for 3.0, just the players guide for 3.5, then bought in big again for 4e. Started with just the basic books again for 5e, but have been buying most of the character expansions for 5e in DNDOnlline. Also I've been playing PBP for decades, ran for quite a while, but realized that I just don't have the energy to run PBP games anymore. I am still running realtime games though.

Very cool - yeah when I learned, AD&D had literally JUST come out, so the people that taught me weren't all that familiar with it yet - as a result, they taught me the original D&D, which I played with them a handful of times until we all sort of simultaneously realized that AD&D was just leagues better. Two-dimensional alignment system, instead of just three alignments - mind blown. And separating race from class, allowing you to be an elf that isn't a fighter/mage - mind blown even bigger. When you say you run realtime games still, do you mean remote like? On conference with everyone? I was considering that for this campaign but decided this would be easier - but I guess I can see what you mean by it taking a lot of energy, if the players are expecting you to always be ready with a quick response. I mean, everyone's got to sleep, and visit with family and do work stuff sometimes, so I hope it's understood that delays are inevitable. I like some delays on the players side, frankly. It'll give me time to prepare for changes to the script - I like being flexible as far as plot. It's harder to do that realtime, but it's something I used to be good at once upon a time. Just winging it, when the players did something I didn't expect.
I used to be running games in person for a local campus game club, till covid happened. I have many risk factors that would make it very bad for me to get covid, so I've been self isolating ever since. So I moved my weakly games to playing online, usually with Roll20, but I've tried some other VTT programs as well. Helps to keep me sane (well as sane as I get, which isn't very much). So still playing just as often, mostly with the same people. But don't have to haul everything into campus everyweek. At one point I think I was bringing in over 100 lbs of games and snacks, bringing pizza and soda for the entire club (sold at cost), a hot oil popcorn popper, and 3 banker boxes of games.
As for PBP, I check once or twice a day for new posts or private messages, and respond when appropriate. My problem as a DM was mostly me, I was keeping making maps and keeping them updated, as well as tracking the state of every character and enemy, tracking everything in text files.I was doing that for several games at once and burnt out. DNDBeyond makes the tracking much easier. The players can adjust the HP and conditions on their own characters, and the DM can see and confirm it was done. And I think the encounter tracker can keep track of monsters for you (I haven't really used it yet, been using the VTT tools instead).

Man, sounds like that campus lost a valuable service you were providing - but I'm glad you've been able to keep it going via technology. Yay for tech. The friends I used to play in person with and myself all sort of gravitated toward me being the DM most of the time for some reason, I guess because I enjoyed it the most, but yeah I used to spend soooo much time prepping, using journals and notebooks, making my own maps with grid paper, all of it. I spent weeks on this Dragonlance campaign that was like my magnum opus for that period - only for the players to just basically trash the whole thing by immediately going way off script lol. That was the lesson I needed not to spend too much time prepping - it ultimately ended up being a blast anyway, even though I ended up just making it up as we went. I hear you about the sanity thing - I find story telling, and creative writing in general, to have a similar effect of (almost) restoring me to sanity - temporarily anyway. I haven't really looked into a lot of VTT tools, but I'm definitely planning on using the new maps and encounters feature here.

Sorry about that, I've leveled him to 2nd and here are his base stats, states that it comes up to 88pts, is this not right?
I'm interested in this game, but not sure if you've filled the 6 slots yet. Any openings still?

Yes, we've got two more spots it looks like. Welcome :)

If you select manual/rolled you can simply enter the desired score. Just keep in mind that it's pre Background bonus.
