Regarding the BG3 thing, since it sounds like there's still someone playing, and another that hasn't, maybe we'll just do (3), but I can definitely work in some stuff from the plot as we go if you'd like that. It's impossible to not reference it at all - there'll be plenty of references to 'the war' - if no other specifier is used, they mean the war with the Absolute. The cannon version, to the best of my understanding, is that the Army is defeated, Duke Ravengard is alive, and essentially, it's a return to status quo ante-bellum (as it was before the war) - just things have been a little chaotic in terms of cleanup and such.
If that's not what WotC are using as cannon, feel free to correct me.
We still need check-ins from Dawn and Hnefa - go ahead and enter the Tavern, in the other thread, whenever you're ready. No rush, the other's are getting to know each other, and I'm enjoying the exchange.
Just FYI information - I messed up the date it's set - I meant to set it nearly 8 years after the events of BG3. I had mixed it up with something else that happened two years after related to an NPC's backstory and just wasn't thinking when I wrote that into the campaign's description. So we'll call it halfway into 1499 I guess. Not that it should really matter, but for those of you that like to know those kinds of details, there you have it.
If one of you wants to set up a discord I'm cool with that. I'm not all that familiar with discord frankly. They're like chat rooms, right? Just name it 'Skeletons and Succubae in the Closet' if you can, and I'll try to get more familiar with Discord :).
Could you please slow down and let everyone post before moving on, especially when it comes to making checks and ending scenes?
Especially since a bunch of stuff's been happening while I'm either asleep or at work and can't post.
OK - will do. Sorry! I wasn't aware you were having that issue. I saw messages from you in the discord, so I took it to mean you had nothing else to say.
If I ever move on, I mentioned once before, and you wanted to do something - you can always respond to the area where you wanted to act, with the action you wanted to do, and I'll retroactively make it work.
If I'm pushing things along, its probably also because there isn't really anything else you CAN do that I had planned for at that point. There's a lot to get through, but it's not all very important regarding your inputs - YET - when it gets to the part of the adventure where your input will mean more and matter more, I'll definitely slow down. But not everything is an opportunity that can be exploited for some advantage. I've been getting the sense that some of you are getting impatient and was thinking that it could even be the reason Hnefa just seemed to bail entirely - because it was too slow or boring.
If there is something I had planned to make available if rolled for, I'll wait - like I did with the magic weapons thing from Jekk. I waited, and reminded that there's an opportunity you don't want to miss. Now that it's been secured, I'm trying to move things along. It hasn't even been a single day yet in the story, but it's been nearly a week in real time - the 'adventure' part of the adventure hasn't even started yet. Once Reyna leaves and you're on your own, it'll matter a lot more what you do.
There's a lot of just storyline stuff I've been trying to get us through so we can get to the parts where you'll be out on your own, potentially facing creatures to fight, etc. Everything so far has just been talking and setup. A lot has been said, but we haven't really gotten that far into it at all - I was getting the feeling from some that they were feeling like things were going too slowly.
Does anyone else think I'm going to fast? Too slow? I'm happy to hear your thoughts.
The issue is the chance to get the magic weapons and the prompting and re-prompting about it both happened when I was asleep.
And during weekdays I won't be able to post until the evenings because I'll be at work so if chances to interact/gain advantages/make checks are skipped I won't be able to take part.
Just to put it into role-playing context - why WOULD a group of powerful and famous people stop their dinner and wait some level 2 people to tell them what to do? You're not that interesting to them - yet. You just happen to be heading to an area where they have an interest in seeing something done as well. That scene was never meant to be a way for you all to have long drawn out side conversations with everyone - it was mostly exposition, which I didn't want to get derailed, so I steam rolled it a bit.
Just be patient and have a little faith in what I've written for you. You're only level 2. You're not powerful or important. Yet. You can't expect a title from someone for rolling a persuasion check.
The nice thing about PBP format is that you can reply to posts from hours ago and inject your characters into scenes that happened why you were away. Quoting the post you're responding to helps with this to tie back to that point in the story.
An example of this was when Dawn was late picking a room, the description of her room ended up in the middle of a different part of the story.
Likewise, when I got back online last night, after running my real time game, I saw that I had missed a prompt for Dawn to heal the pirate, and that someone else had picked up on it. So I had Dawn leap in to do the healing, The DM sorted it out and made it work :-)
Yeah there are some pros and cons to Play By Post, it seems, and that's a pro for sure. I'll always do my best to retroactively add something to the story if you missed something you wanted to do. If there's a decision to be made that can alter the course of things, I'll wait until it's made. But if it's roleplaying only things that won't impact the overall course, I may scoot it along, especially in the earlier phase of the campaign and the earlier phase of this adventure specifically. Whether or not you get extra stuff for the trip can be decided well after the trip starts, and yet the start of the trip would have looked the same way either way.
But when it comes to things that CAN alter the course of things, like combat for example - I won't just skip your turn. We'll wait for as long as it takes (within reason of course).
The cons include the fact that it's never going to run smoothly, in a perfectly linear manner - it would take too long. So, it's going to have to be sliced up a little. Another con is that someone can just disappear. In a live game, it'd be pretty weird for a player to get up and just walk out without saying anything lol.
I wake up to 15 posts, read them and inject Eltra where I see fit. Gives me something to do with morning coffee. If I am too far behind, in other games, I use discord to help get caught up....I recap and ask questions to be get back on track before posting...Hope that last bit helps.

Ah, I forgot I don't get notifications until after I post at least once. I'll catch up...

Would it be worth setting up a private message on here or creating a Discord server to serve as an OOC thread?
I think it would make things neater and I find OOC chat helps players figure out ways to get their characters to connect better.
Ditto....I forgot this was here haha. I find discord easier for that sort of thing.

Okay, I set up a server and sent GBGMD a link to send the the rest of the players.
OK - will do. Sorry! I wasn't aware you were having that issue. I saw messages from you in the discord, so I took it to mean you had nothing else to say.

I don't see anything in maps for our encounter. Did we ever get that discord link? Might be easier to post the map image there?
