Lyrena can't help but smile. She doesn't have much experience with dogs, blink or otherwise, but the ones she's met have been lovely. "Hello," she says quietly, holding out her hand for Ikasa to sniff.
Ikasa may be a blink dog, but he is friendly like a regular dog and gladly accepts your scratches and rubs! He has a very general idea where he last saw Palenna, but admits she could be almost anywhere by now.
The space where Ikasa was held is the bottom half of the lifeboat. A cot is shoved against one wall here opposite a desk. Across the hallway (to the west) is a good-sized room - at least it would be if half of it wasn't crushed in the side of the dead god Havoc! Books and scrolls concerning arcane subjects pack the bookshelves here. Pressed against the wall is a redwood desk, atop which are clean sheets of parchment and two inkwells. Somewhere here should be the other warding rune...
DC15 Investigation:
Inspecting the bookshelves in the study reveals that one of the books—a volume titled Dissertations on the Abstruse Mind—is a disguised strongbox. The box is locked, but the lock can be picked with a successful DC 15 Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) check using thieves’ tools or forced open with a successful DC 11 Strength (Athletics) check.
DC18 Investigation:
In the lifeboat you find an emergency fund of 100 gp stashed in one of the desk’s drawers.
Davis is distracted by the blink dog, smiling, walks into the book self.
Investigation 1, but halfling luck... regains is bearings and searches the area
Investigation 13
But begins to get frustrated, asking his Goddess for help. [Luck point]
Investigation: 17
He pulls a book out of the shelf, "Ah Hah!" he says, turning it over in his hands. "Some sort of box!" he shares with the others. He pauses for a moment, and then tries to force it open.
Vesta examines the room, searching for any evidence of the warding rune, but she doesn't spot anything unusual. She turns around in time to watch Davis accidentally walk into a book shelf. She's about to ask if he's all right, but he pulls a book off the shelf. It turns out to be a box. She goes over to see what he finds inside.
Davis is able to wrench the disguised lockbox open, only to discover that it is trapped! Poisonous gas puffs out and Davis must succeed on a DC 20 Constitution saving throw or have the poisoned condition for 1 hour. The box contains a Potion of Mind Reading and a journal. The journal belongs to Inda and contains writings in Common and Celestial regarding her experiments with the rod piece.
Vanizi had looked around but didn't real see any signs of what they were looking for. But she was very glad that Davis had found something. "I suppose I'll take the potion, unless anyone else really wants it. But did you find the rod piece?"
(If you recall {well, it seems you don't} the 2nd ward rune is on the wall above the desk. Captain Inda told you the pass phrase. It may also be written somewhere in the journal - make an Investigation check if needed =)
After 10 minutes of reading the journal, Lyrena finds the pass phrase to disable the ward rune - "The moon sings a song for the lost.”
Uttering the phrase out loud causes the rune to flare briefly. You should now be able to access the area where the rod piece was kept in the prow section of the ship! (DM roll: 3)
On the trip to the forward section, you catch the tell-tale bobbing light of a Star Angler, but because you have faced these already, the group is able to avoid it!
Once there, you head down to the forward storage area and are able to open the door to the 20'x30' safe room. An overwhelmingly foul stench fills this destroyed and empty room. Where the prow should be is a gaping hole leading into the putrid core of Havock’s heart. (New map!)
"Ugh! Smells worse than my first ever batch of brownies! Okay well as long as it only smells bad right?"Zyl will head into the space a short ways then wait for the others.
Eyeing the putrid space, Vanizi wrinkles her nose. "Maybe you folks should check that out. I'm sure it'll be easy to just grab the rod piece so we can go." She takes a step back, looking like she's having second thoughts about going in there.
The heart of Havock is huge - what one would expect of a long-dead god. The heart is made of purple flesh, although parts of this flesh have been petrified and hardened into gray crystal, while other parts remain soft and spongy. The heart beats erratically, sending a dull pulse echoing through its chambers every few minutes. The chambers in the heart are all 50 feet high. Strangely, the entire area is dimly lit by floating orbs of pinkish bioluminescence! Finally, the air throughout the heart is exceedingly foul, causing a gag reflex on some of you... (Breathing the foul air will give you the poisoned condition until you breathe fresh air again.)
Davis smiles widely at Ikasa, also delighted as Vesta pets him.

"May I look at the journal?" Vesta asks.
She'll take a look at it, curious to read more about Captain Inda's experiments.

Vesta eyes the gaping hole with dismay.
"I guess there's nothing for it but to go in there," she says wanly.

(I will say that the necklace would counter the poisonous air...there's no save given in the adventure, but it makes sense to me =)
