Susan the student came back into the Gemstone Wing with a glass towel carefully placed over one arm. She went to the chilled cabinet and took out a bottle of mead, carefully she pressed the cork and under pressure the cork flew out. Thankfully it hits the door rather than a noble. She blushes and hopes that people hadn't noticed.
Susan walks over to Exa, a bottle in hand. I've been told that I'm to serve Fey Mead and keep the trolleys topped up. I'm already making a hash of it! How are you doing?
Susan said to Exa, she went back to the University, she was drunk as a lord. Then she peeled away from Exa to serve mead to one of the well dressed men.
Lady Graham felt a light touch on her arm and turned to find a man in a fine costume. His voice dripped honey. May I have the pleasure of this dance my lady? I am new here in Waterdeep, Captain Frankheim Walters at your service. He lightly took her hand and kissed it as his heels clicked together.
Exa placed the bottle carefully down on a cabinet and stepped behind it. Leaning over to open the leather roll she still felt a light tingling in her hands. As she unrolled the kit she saw a set of lockpicks with arcane lettering on the handles. The tool case itself is also enchanted and is very difficult to see. Exa looks at the fine blue toned steel of normal and miniature lockpicks. They looked like masterwork tools. (Thieves tools +2 add to your sleight of hand rolls)
Kyreth took the reticule and emptied it into his pockets. He had a task now, find what the miniature key opened, since it looked about the size used on the jewel cabinets.
The young waterdhavian lady gives the handsome young captain a small appreciative smile. "You may Captain Walters, with the promise that you share the latest gossip of the Sword Coast. A young lady needs some scandals to keep boredom away." She says with calm confidence and gracefully steps closer to allow the young captain to lead her onto the dance floor.
My pleasure. There have been goblin raids on the roads, something is stirring them up. If you have to travel make sure that you have armed guards with you. They made the journey here to Waterdeep problematic. He takes her arm and dances to the tune played by Mavilius, a court dance. Perhaps I know of a nearer scandal, he twirls away then back again, It's unfortunate that the Museum has fallen on hard financial times. If only they sold all those ore and gem samples they keep in the basement. I've heard there's a fortune down there. And you my lady, what news do you have from Waterdeep?
Exa purrs a quiet hum of excitement at seeing the incredibly exquisite tools. She quickly slips them away before they're seen, but her fingers twitch with eagerness at the opportunity to use them.
She manages to control herself and return to her task for the night, unobtrusively offering wine to the nobles who need it. She moves slowly between them, lingering with her pointed ears alert for any juicy snippets of gossip the nobles might let slip.
Kyreth examines the key to see if there is any hints to which lock it may fit. He then slowly moves around the room looking for a suitable lock, whilst keeping an eye on Lady Graham as a good retainer should. For now he doesn't intend to try the key, just narrow down the possibilities.
May I interest you dear lady in some light refreshment? I'll send your student to select some choice morsels from the Buffet. What about some of the Feywilds best mead?
He steered her gently back to her table, nodding at Mavilius. Tossing a coin at Mavilius' feet. He is rather good isn't he.
Mavilius catches the glint of the coin as it lands with a soft clink at his feet, never missing a note as he shifts seamlessly into a more buoyant melody to match the Captain’s jovial tone. He offers a graceful nod, smile warm and perfectly measured beneath his mask.
The tiefling gives a near imperceptible sigh of relief as the bell tolls, giving a theatrical twirl and bow as his current piece ends and he steps off the dias for his break. Heading to grab himself a cold drink, he keeps an eye out for any noble who seems particularly enthused by his performance.
The young waterdhavian lady seems quite unimpressed with what the captain has to share. "No news from Waterdeep I'm afraid, nothing that you would appreciate at least captain." She says a bit dryly.
Lady Graham smiles politely and lets the young captain escort her off the dance floor. "Feywild mead? How refreshingly exotic." She says aloofly.
"Oh, I didn't quite notice but if you say so."She answers the captain a bit dryly, but discreetly she flashes the minstel a quick smile and a teasing wink as they pass him.
A dark dressed drow with her escort jogged the table as they turned boisterously into a turn, her laugh like bells.
What have we here, the young Captain with no real experience, did you pay for your commission? A bard that plays magnificently yet has no patron, and an aging dame with title but little money. Off with you Walters! She shooed him away taking a seat at Lady Grahams table. Her escort waited patiently behind her. Here dance with Heronn, I promise you no foot squashed by incompetence. Or stay here and exchange gossip like old maids do!
Now Bard, here is a token of my interest, you may call me Lady Vandylarahal ,she throws a small pouch at him, it's heavy. I have holdings in the Underdark, my mother is one of the Matriachs. When I tire of you I'll send you to her court.
Mavilius didn't like her tone not to mention the medallion of Lolth that she wore.

"Hm?" The Exa is pulled from her curiosity about the thing in her pocket by Susan's return.
"Um, yeah, fine," she says with a nod, still a little distracted. "What happened to whoever was supposed to do the mead?"

Exa tries to hide a smirk and a chuckle at the image of the student gorging herself on mead meant for the nobles.
"Good on her," she says to herself.
Then she remembers the item slipped into her pocket, and she looks for a quiet corner where she might take a private peek at it.

Exa got what she expected the Nobles were gossiping about each other, affairs and petty spite, even the curator wasn't left alone.
The curator adores oversized vintage dolls. I've heard she keeps one in her office that's as big as a grown human!
Captain Walters never served in any real military, he's a rake and a scoundrel preying on older women.
Lady Vanylarahal deals with the Zhentarim, it's said that her mines in the Underdark are manned by slaves!
Kyreth
Kyreth identifies two possible locks that the key may fit, and checks them for any traps. He'll try the key when the chaos begins.
