As the dwarven siblings sit down, still grumbling about copper slots and lost luck, Mavilius shifts seamlessly into a gentle Dwarvish melody on his lute: a traditional tune about the unbreakable bonds of kin. The soft strains wrap around their bickering like a familiar hearth-song, Mavilius offers them a small, knowing smile before returning to his rhythm. The slots, eh? Hopefully Lilith brings Karlton enough luck that he'll be an asset to their plan.
The alluring white-haired tiefling nods and takes Karlton over to the slot machines, seeming to decide for a moment as she looks them over. "That one."She finally says, pointing to one of the machines and drawing Karlton closer. "With these I think you need some real patience though before the real luck strikes."
Exa nods to herself, glad that Adrian had found a way through the cabinet's traps. Still, she has a look for herself in case the plan to get Quentin's card went south and they need a fallback plan.
Eat dinner and then go back to the slots if you must. I fail to see how you can win using a plan against a clockwork spring, Lowell says scathingly, no let me enjoy the song and eat my fill before you drag me screaming back to Avernus. The long suffering brother let out a sigh
I'll eat something quick and drink a tankard of ale if that's what it takes to placate you, she sulked
Here then let's give it a go, he slides a copper chip into the slot, then pulls on the arm. Watching the wheels spin he saw the symbols line up 1 6 6 1 4
Why don't you try? He hands Lilith the copper chips, I'll pull the arm
A...clockwork spring? Mavilius' eyes glint mischievously as he considers what to do with this information; the casino's patrons are truly creative sorts. Reporting this method of cheating to Quentin could earn him some trust, but there's also Delilah's patsy...He finishes the song and excuses himself for a quick break, heading to a blind spot from the mirrors and casting invisibility on himself before heading for the slots.
Silently approaching Lilith, he carefully whispers in her ear. "There's a clockwork spring inside. Messing with it can make you win, apparently. Perhaps Thistle can help?"
[One Bardic Inspiration each on Thistle and Lilith, 1d6]
Still staying close to her guest, the alluring white-haired tiefling places the copper chip against her lips for good luck and slides it into the slot. She almost drops the copper chip as she suddenly hears Mavilius' soft voice in her ear, feeling herself blush at the closeness. She quickly processes what he whispered and wills forth her invisible mischievous accomplice that is sent to see if the slot machine mechanism can indeed be tampered with to change their luck.
Adrian turned to Exa with a toothy grin. No mirrors in here. he said I'll be headed back to the Dog and Duck. Tomorrow I'm on duty in the security room. We need to time when Quentin goes for his walk around the Casino, and when he normally stays in his room, can you keep your eyes open for him?
Lilith carefully let Thistle past her hand and into the workings of the slot machine, 63433 The slot machine jingles, and three copper pieces plus the original descend into the cup of winnings. It looks like you are a lucky lady today! says Karlton. Let's try again!
66466, the slot machine rang out and paid out 4 copper chips. Some of the croupiers looked their way, saw Lilith in uniform then went back to their games.
Karlton felt a tug on the arm and found himself looking at an enraged female dwarf, That's my machine, I've been setting up a big win all morning get the hell away from it.
A second dwarf trailed after her, he shrugged apologetically.
Karlton looked in two minds ignore the dwarf or be a gentleman. He gestures at the machine, good luck with it, five sixes is a lot of luck.
The bard grins as he watches under the veil of invisibility. It is a strange feeling, being the unnoticed spectator for a change. Still, the stage calls to him! He'd hate for his absence to cause suspicion or disappointment. He hurries back to the blind spot and drops concentration on the spell, before heading back to his post gracefully as ever.
Still curious about the circus, he will keep a look out for any performers from there that pass through.
The alluring white-haired tiefling does ignore the obnoxious dwarf, but she suggests to Thistle that the mechanism should be tampered with again, making sure that slot machine will be a very unlucky one for a while. "Anything else you want to see or try?" She says softly as she moves away with her guest.
Karlton smiles at Lilith. The slots seem to attract people with plans, but the house always wins. I don't play 3 dragon ante. Have you seen the Erinyes statue? They say that it is real gold and some fine rubies. Are you tied to an area, or can we go and see it in Cania?
Hm, the circus remains a mystery to the bard, but one he intends to crack. If he gets a moment he will ask the restaurant staff if there is any other place to eat in the casino.
"Yes, I saw it just yesterday, quite a prize. I'm not really supposed to go down there but let's say I take a break and take you there anyway, my employer can't complain about me taking full care of his guests now could he?"The alluring white-haired tiefling says with a playful smile and takes her guest to Cania.
"So not too many. That's good," Exa says with an optimistic nod.
"We will have to make sure we have a way of keeping them distracted if need be. Perhaps the commotion of a malfunctioning automated minotaur will do the trick."
She ponders this with a tap of her Tiefling chin.
"Unless you think you might have a chance to tamper with the mirrors directly in the security room?"
The security guards have a flaw, all of those in the mirror room drink small beer from the employees lounge, whenever they get a chance. I think it best to use the sleeping potion on the guards and then tie them up before smashing the mirrors and freeing the dao.
Steps lead to the sunken floor of a gambling haven ringed with pillars of black basalt. Seven three-dragon ante tables take up the floorspace. A three-foot-high shelf carved into the far wall bears a glass case, displayed in which is a gold statuette of a winged devil. Standing next to the display case is a tiefling security guard.
Still linking arms with Lilith he looks at the trophy. It was beautiful not to mention eye catching. Karlton pulls on her arm so they can go get a closer look.
The security guard watches them, then after a few minutes You here for the tournament? Or are you just sight seeing with the hostess?
The waitress cleaned up after the food fight that seemed to be the dwarven way of eating. The noodles were all over the place, it would have been a surprise if any had entered their mouths. She listened to Mavilius. A good bard meant tips for everyone.
Everyone seemed to be settled down and eating, she sat down next to Mavilius, took her shoes off and massaged her feet. It was always a long day in Nessus.
"Yes, I am giving Mr Karlton the grand tour. Quentin have already seen him about starting up a new Casino." The alluring white-haired tiefling says, hoping that mentioning their boss would mean less grief from the nosy security guard.
"Such a beauty, I wonder how Quentin will feel when he has to give it away at the end of te upcoming tournament." She says softly while admiring the erinyes statuette.
Feeling a bit of pity for the waitress, as well as seeing a good opportunity to get information, the bard casts a quick healing word on her in the midst of his song (+8 hp) to relieve any soreness. He gives her a charming smile and wink.
Once the song is over, he approaches her. "Feeling better? It must be hells having to stay on your feet all day," he says with a sympathetic look, "Hopefully we can get enough tips to visit the spa...or the circus! I've heard about it, but it seems those performers keep to themselves. Have you ever been...uh? Oh, I apologize. I am Mavilius." He introduces himself politely.
