After reading up on some specific references about basic undead. The Duo heads out to follow the Whiteline river to Fjörn’s Ford to possibly save survivors, look for more information, destroy lingering undead, and discover if any one is raising the dead?
They travel along the river admiring the powerful rapids feeling the cold river spray. Finally coming to the ford a shallow crossing over the still fast flowing river where Fjörn founded a town and began a prosperous brewery.
As the duo looks across the river a chilling sight emerges into the open…
a skeletal warhorse and rider…
it may not have noticed you please roll a stealth check unless you’d like to draw its attention.
Stealth DC 8 gives you a surprise round after which we will roll initiative.
Aldun forgets to be stealthy (roll 7) and stops in his tracks when he sees the undead letting go a big " Oh no Dain, look there" pointing to the other side of the river where the skeletal rider is. Shivers all over his back make him want to turn around and run when the undead's glowing eyesockets light up like embers when they make contact with Aldun's.
Aldun freezes on the spot only able to mumbled a small bit of the info he remembered from a book he read "Skeletons, their nature and how to cut them down" by lord Hewarty. "Blunt force Drain! Use blunt force and they will fall harder!
I'm not going towards the danger. I'd rather keep it at a distance. Besides...2 to 3 feet of water is almost enough to drown me. With a bit of current I'll be washed away.

I'm not going towards the danger. I'd rather keep it at a distance. Besides...2 to 3 feet of water is almost enough to drown me. With a bit of current I'll be washed away.
Aldun moves forward 25 feet. Kneels, believing the bushes will hide him a bit and casts 30 feet east of him an exact image of himself in fear crumpled together with minor illusion hoping it draws the attention of the skeletal rider.
The skeletal warhorse thunders across the ford. Move & Dash for 60’ (rough terrain). The skeletal rider releases a black arrow from an archaic shortbow his jaw clacking as the arrow passes through the illusion.
Dain charges towards the enemy, going into a barbaric rage and moving 30ft closer. Still too far for melee, he draws an arrow back on his string again. Firing while running however causes his arrow to fly wide off its target (to hit 6)
As Dain rushes forward he sees two Alduns, no time to discover which is real Dain growls as he releases an arrow while on the run towards the enemy.
Aldun fueled by fear reaches for his only diamond (where do you keep this diamond?) casting chromatic orb an orb of sizzling acid splashes over the skeletal warhorse dissolving bone and dropping the once mighty animal. The skeletal rider nearly subject to the same fate is instead flung forward with a bone crunching impact into the rocky ford. Prone and slightly damaged by the fall. The warrior stands and moves away from the remains of his mount, drawing his short sword. It turns its burning hate filled gaze on the barbarian.
“Why run when the enemy is within my grasp! I’ll finish him now and the threat will be over rather than needing to watch our backs the whole time!”
(The confidence from the illstone is clearly apparent here)
Stowing the bow now that the skeletal rider is close, Dain draws his maul and falls into the shallows right in front of the monster, the weapon landing on the creature’s head.
"I did. They are terrible, smelly and undead. Don't let it get within reach cause it may paralyze you eating your brains where you stand. Hit and run or go around. Maybe even better?"

Wise as a serpent and sly as a fox.
Dain (using his Heroic inspiration — original roll 5 reroll 10) stealths his way past the undead

(Initiative roll 11)
A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to
Dain I’m assuming you will not abandon Aldun you have a surprise round. Then we will begin in initiative order.
As soon as Aldun speaks a ghostly snort as if from the once battle hardened warhorse locks eyes on the wizard…
the water over the ford is 2-3 feet deep providing half-cover to anyone in the water. It is difficult terrain. Unless you swim…
Wise as a serpent and sly as a fox.
I'm not going towards the danger. I'd rather keep it at a distance. Besides...2 to 3 feet of water is almost enough to drown me. With a bit of current I'll be washed away.

That’s true good catch.
Wise as a serpent and sly as a fox.
(Init nat 1+1=2)
Dain, taking the advantage with his surprise fires his longbow at the undead.
(20 to hit for 9 dmg)
Impacting with the ribs Dain’s arrow creates a blast of bone shards.
Now top of the first round Aldun.
Wise as a serpent and sly as a fox.
Aldun moves forward 25 feet. Kneels, believing the bushes will hide him a bit and casts 30 feet east of him an exact image of himself in fear crumpled together with minor illusion hoping it draws the attention of the skeletal rider.

Dain it is once again your turn.

Dain charges towards the enemy, going into a barbaric rage and moving 30ft closer. Still too far for melee, he draws an arrow back on his string again. Firing while running however causes his arrow to fly wide off its target (to hit 6)
More panicked now seeing that the horse moved with great speed coming towards him Aldun shoots a chromatic orb (acid) towards the warhorse
(Rolled nat 20 for 25, damage 24 pnt)
Because of 2 the same numbers in the dmg roll the orb leaps to the rider.
(Rolled 8)
Then Aldun skitters back the distance he just came not looking at the result and yelling; "Watch out Dain he's realy close. We gotta run!"

(15 to hit for 11 dmg bludgeoning)
The blow lands perfectly destroying the skeleton. What’s left of the enemies gear is a short sword a shortbow and 3 black arrows.
300xp total 150 each nicely done.
This is the famous ford not far from Fjörn’s Ford, as you continue across you can smell smoke in the air.
You travel a short ways further and can see the town ahead…
On the road lurching towards you is a smelly sloppy looking ghoulish humanoid… as you spot each other, please roll initiative!
map
Wise as a serpent and sly as a fox.
(Dain gathers the skeleton’s gear to be sold later)
Upon seeing the ghoulish figure approaching he stops in his tracks and motions for Aldun to stop as well.
”Have you read about such a thing as this? Seems almost human but no human could survive like that.”
To know about this creature you may roll arcana or religion DC 12
lacedon ghoul

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to
Aldun goes first. The ghoul’s initiative is an 18.

"I did. They are terrible, smelly and undead. Don't let it get within reach cause it may paralyze you eating your brains where you stand. Hit and run or go around. Maybe even better?"
Aldun does take a short time to write some things down. Reading about abberations like this is one. Seeing them in reality is something completely different. In each case more terrifying. I could try and lure it away with my minor illusion or with andré. He's quick enough."
"What do you think Dain. Did it spot us? We could still go back. Did you know there's probably a powerful necromancer or priest causing all of this”
I hold my action in case he has seen us and comes for us. I ready a mind sliver in case he attacks and gets within reach.
(I don't have a 50g diamond. Only saw the necessity just now)
(Do you want us to keep track of our own xp or do we get a "you levels to....." From you?
