I'm neither rushing the story nor overlooking the party's need to heal. Merely fleshing out the details of the eastern end of the hallway.
The stairs, like every other feature in the Eye, are designed for giants. They ascend 20 feet to a large landing, next to which stands a pair of granite doors that are 30' tall. Carved in the granite are scenes of giant gods locked in battle with dragons. The dull thuds and grunting noises previously heard by the group now make sense; the barbarians were attempting, fruitlessly, to open these massive doors.
"Well considering a dragon attacked us that went well, but you all look like crap, I think we could all do with something to eat, and to rest for a little, even you Harshnag. Then you can knock down that door that they were trying to open, I would but I don't want you to miss out on the fun." With that Andor sits down where he is leaning against one of the pillars and starts to rest.

Vhon - Level 2 Warlock - What shall become of the Drunken Sailor?
A short rest is a period of downtime, at least 1 hour long, during which a character does nothing more strenuous than eating, drinking, reading, and tending to wounds.
A character can spend one or more Hit Dice at the end of a short rest, up to the character’s maximum number of Hit Dice, which is equal to the character’s level. For each Hit Die spent in this way, the player rolls the die and adds the character’s Constitution modifier to it. The character regains hit points equal to the total (minimum of 0). The player can decide to spend an additional Hit Die after each roll. A character regains some spent Hit Dice upon finishing a long rest....
I have hit points lost during the battle as follows.
Rixton: -21 slashing (post #1674) | -33 cold (post #1681 and failed save in #1685) | +6 healing (post #1685) - net loss of 48
Ladrian:-11 slashing (post #1681) | -33 cold (post #1681 and failed save in #1687) - net loss of 44
Vigan: -7 falling (post #1675) | -6 slashing (post #1681) | -16 cold (post #1681 and successful save in #1684) | +10 Stone's Endurance (post #1684) - net loss of 19
Let's see if we all agree. :)
Harshnag nods his head. "Agreed. We've come this far. No need for foolish haste."
The group rests for an hour, allowing those wounded in the battle an opportunity to gain strength to face whatever might be next.
Rixton: -21 slashing (post #1674) | -33 cold (post #1681 and failed save in #1685) | +6 healing (post #1685) - net loss of 48
Rixton dodged the first attacker and was hit by the second attacker in Post #1674, so he lost 9 from slashing and 33 from cold, then healed 6. Net loss of 36.
Rixton will use 5 hit dice during the short rest: 27
I sit against the wall with my eyes closed, at first replaying the battle in my mind, then clearing it of all uncertainty and concern. The cold stone should be chilling me more but it feels warm compared to the bone-chilling breath weapon of the wyrmling. As the time passes I find myself falling into my preferred meditative trance, wherein I wander the library of my mind, reviewing the books, lessons, and observations I have catalogued over the years.
Sitting down for a bit he tens to his wounds. It was closer to death than he thought....
Suddenly feeling better he turns to the others "If anyone needs healing even after the rest I can help you, although I can only cast two more spells until a longer rest."
He then continues on a more serious tone: "Now, why the hell did you had to kill that mini dragon?!" he saysannoyed "Can you imagine the shenanigans I could pull in the future if we managed to tame him? Hell, I almost fooled you with that dragon war story, and you're on my team..." Ladrian stands up and goes to inspect the dead wyrm, he's looking for anything he could take with him for future... shenanigans.
Retrieving his javelins and handaxe, the goliath sits, leaning against the ledge he jumped from. Silently, he deals with a cut from a greataxe, before producing from his bag the bottle of whisky they were given in Mirabar. He takes a few slugs, before offering it round the group. "Drink. This will warm us for now."
An hour or so passes, and the wounded are feeling better, and the whiskey has done its warming work. Harshnagclimbs the stairs, approaches the massive granite doors and pushes against them to no avail. He backs up several feet, charges forward, and crashes violently into one of the doors, causing it to burst open. Chunks of ice can be heard smashing to the floor; the doors had been frozen shut from the inside.
The next room is an enormous square temple.
Thick frost clings to every surface of this 100-foot-high vaulted chamber. Seven enormous statues dominate the room. The largest of them is an 80-foot-tall robed giant, his arms outstretched and his face hidden beneath a stony cowl, facing a glowing archway in the east wall. Kneeling in rows to each side of this statue are six statues half its size, each impressive in its own right and depicting a paragon of a type of giant: hill, stone, frost, fire, cloud, and storm. These smaller statues face the bigger one in the room’s center. In their outstretched arms, five of the giants hold weapons — gifts for their All-Father. Only the frost giant statue is unarmed.
The north and south walls of the room have two sets of massive doors within them. Ice, at least 4'' thick, covers all doors. The glowing archway in the east wall is 40 feet wide and 40 feet tall. Six different runes are carved into it, each one inlaid with mithral, and a glowing mist fills the arch. Niches in the walls on either side of it contain empty, ice-covered sconces made of iron.

Vigan
Stepping over the cracks in the ground close to the top of the stairs, Vigan walks south and east, crouching at another crack in the ground and running his fingers over it. Noticing another further ahead, he ponders why they all seem to radiate out from the central statue.
Rixton understands that the six smaller statues depict the sons of Annam (who is represented by the gigantic statue in the center of the room). Harshnag explains that the three statues along the north wall--from west to east--are Skoraeus Stonebones, God of the Stone Giants; Thrym, God of the Frost Giants, and Stronmaus, God of the Storm Giants. Along the south wall--from west to east--are Grolantor, God of the Hill Giants; Surtur, God of the FIre Giants, and Memnor, God of the Cloud Giants.
Harshnag goes on to explain that he recognizes only one of the runes in the archway: the Ise rune, for it represents the frost giant race. "Ancient runes. I do not know them,"he comments.
Regarding the mist-filled archway, Harshnag muses, "The oracle might be through there."
Vigan spends a few minutes investigating the damaged floor of the temple. The most likely explanation, it seems, is age. Over the centuries, the enormous weight of the statue of Annam has slowly sunk into the floor, causing the stones to crack.
"Hold on let me check for anything magical before we find out the hard way." Andor draws his wand and plays it across the room looking for signs of the arcane.

Andor's spell reveals some additional information about the temple room. The four iron sconces in the eastern wall emit a faint aura of conjuration magic. Similarly, a conjuration aura can be seen around the archway.
Any attempt to pass through the mist, however, is futile. Just a few feet into the mist, a cold, rock wall is encountered.
"Ah," I say, realizing what we seem to be facing. "A puzzle. A security system to keep out interlopers."
I look around the room. "Much like us, I suppose."
I walk in a circle around the room, examining each statue and the runes around the east archway.
"I have several thoughts, but my first is the simplest. Harshnag, are you able to provide Thyrm with a weapon?" I say, pointing to the statue that is weaponless.
"A puzzle, there must be a way of activating the portal. I wonder if it has anything to do with that Frost giant's missing weapon. Harshnag, you're a Frost Giant, why do you see if putting your weapon in his hands does anything, might work, you never know..."
Ninja'ed by Rixton, curses!
" Failing that we can try and get through these doors or do something with the scones, maybe try lighting them."
Harshnag looks at his greataxe, then at the statue of Thrym. "My axe seems a bit small for the God of the Frost Giants, but...."
He places his axe into the empty hands of the statue. The members of the party look at the archway expectantly, but nothing changes. "Where's Thrym's axe?" asks the frost giant.
"oh well, let's try lighting the scones, it's probably easier than getting through that ice!" Andor matches actions to words and lights one of his torches and then tries to light one of the scones from it, if they light he will light all of them.

Rixton:
"Ah, we should be so lucky that it would be as simple as that."
I walk to the north door, frozen over with a thick layer of ice. Clenching my fist, I calm my mind and relax my muscles and stance. Then I push a fast, powerful punch at the ice to try and break some of the ice off. (Damage if you need it: 6)
