Karl slams his hammer into zombie3, fully expecting it to collapse, but the creature stays on its feet.
Vondal shifts his stance to get a better shot at zombie2, and the arrow hits its mark.

Adrom heals himself and then swings his own hammer at zombie1. The weapons hits, rising a cloud of ash into the air around the zombie.

The nature cleric places a hand over his holy symbol and prays to Chauntea for healing. (cure wounds: 10)
Zombie1 swings again at Adrom (slam attack: 12, damage: 5 bludgeoning damage), but the dwarf dodges the attack. Zombie2, looking like the arrows and bolts sticking out of it might actually be holding it together, swings at Daran. (slam attack: 21, damage: 7 bludgeoning damage) The half-elf steps out of the way. Undaunted, zombie3 swings again at Karl. (slam attack: 7, damage: 7 bludgeoning damage) Its dead arms bounce off of the barbarian's shield. And zombie4 swings once again at Daran. (slam attack: 8, damage: 3 bludgeoning damage) The zombie's arm just misses him. Zombie3 moans as it tries again to hit Karl. Karl lands another solid hit, but the zombie keeps coming!
OOC: I don't know if I've explained this before, but I bend the "moving through friendly spaces" rule to allow players to move into the space of an ally in order to attack. RAW says you can't stop in the same space as an ally to do anything, but I'm OK with you attacking so long as you don't end your turn in the same space. If we ever run into someone having the sentinel feature, I might have to reconsider.
Vondal slides by Nif to stand beside Daran and start wailing on zombie4.
DM rollz: 15, 8
The zombie remains on its feet after the kick, despite one of its knees now bending the wrong direction. However, the headbutt sends the zombie's noggin flying off behind it and bounding off the wall. The creature's body slumps to the floor.
The dwarf then moves north to stand between zombie1 and zombie2.
DM rollz: 11
Nif fires another bolt at zombie2. The projectile crashes through the exposed sternum of the undead, shattering the upper torso and causing the whole body to fall to pieces in a mound.
Adrom swings his hammer at zombie1. (warhammer attack: 8, damage: 5 bludgeoning damage)
DM rollz: 4
The cleric's swing is off, and he almost misses, but the zombie shifts its weight for its next attack and moves right into the line of fire. The creature is thrown against the wall and falls to pieces.

Daran watches Vondal work for 30 seconds or so, then comments after the dwarf drags the first body out of the tavern. "Burying zombies. That might be a first." He begins looking around the structure, banging on things with his staff, trying to find a hidden compartment or loose tile. He moves into the west room, which turns out to be a kitchen. Vats and huge wooden tuns stand to the west, and a faint smell of yeast still permeates the air. (If anyone checks, the ale is long gone.) Daran turns to look back into the east room. "Mirna said her family were herbalists. This looks like it might have been a tavern." He turns to look at the kitchen again. "I guess it wouldn't hurt to look." He starts searching again, but after some time, he gives up.

Daran hit die: 6
The party continues on, following the trail south and then east. At an intersection near the middle of the village, a narrow lane winds up the steep hillside to the north (where the old man indicated the dragon was). Directly to the south is a ruined building that might have been a store or workshop. Webs stretch across the lane, from the building to the trees on the north side of the road. The only way to reach the building is through the webs because trees and thick bushes bar any access by any other direction. Daran mentions the old man indicated giant spiders live here.

"Did... did you just say spiders?"Vondal asked with a hint of nervousness entering his voice. As soon as the fear was confirmed, the gold dwarf squeezed his eyes shut and shook his head.
