This is how I see it: Nif 10 feet ahead of Karl, with Adrom, Daran and then Vondal following right behind. Sound good?
The day is uneventful and fairly pleasant. Nif feels it was too sunny, but he's unique in this group where the sun is concerned. The cloudless day begins to turn into a cloudless night. The air temperature drops as quickly as the sun.
Other than the day being uneventful, Nif is a little more quiet and grumpy when making camp. (Vondal and Karl will know this is just due to the exposure).
Vondal gives Nif his customary space as much as making camp would allow for, as well as impart an intent at some point to find a crafter of the magical gadgets. This way his brother might someday be able to enjoy the sunlight someday! Other than this, until taking the usual last watch(4th) watch, the Gold Dwarf spends what waking time not devoted to dinner in inscribing and reflecting on his spellbook.
"There's enough of us here, Mr. Daran, that you need feel obligated to do so, but.... if willing to take a watch, it'd be appreciated!"

Adrom survival: 23
The group's trek has them about 500 feet from the forest at this point, and Adrom, after scouring the surrounding grasses, returns with an armful of small branches — hardly enough wood to start a fire, let alone keep it going.
Adrom smiles. "It shouldn't get too cold tonight. If everyone will make ready their bedrolls, I can heat them with magic, and our bodies will keep them warm as we sleep." He looks at up at the sky. "And we don't need the light, especially if it stays cloudless. As for taking a watch, I will, of course. How about I take first?"
Daran on first, Vondal on fourth. What are you other three doing? Everyone roll perception.
Daran wakes Adrom and Karl at the end of his watch, telling them all's quiet before heating his bedroll and slipping into it. It's still cloudless, so the half moon and stars are illuminating the empty grassy plain around them. Adrom is able to come wide awake, but Karl's having trouble as his sleep had been deep, and it still clings to him. A little while into their watch, Adrom hears something coming from the east — from the direction of the Neverwinter Wood, but much closer. He looks and can make out something or somethings moving their way. He's not sure if they are intentionally moving toward the party or if they're just moving west. The small campfire they had started died during Daran's watch, so, as far as Adrom knows, there is no beacon drawing anything their direction.
Adrom, who has left Karl take a nap, poor lad is tired, shakes now his shoulder and put a hand on his mouth. Signaling to the east he grabs his warhammer and shield and moves quitely towards that end of the camp to be the first thing whatever is coming that way face if it finally makes its way to them.
Vondal's eyes snapped open almost immediately at the warning. Holding back the urge to groan in mild discomfort, the Gold Dwarf slowly got to his feet, grabbing his bow and arrows in the process. "Which way, Uncle?" The archer quietly request, squinting into the dark. Even without a clear answer, he aims for the general area in hopes of being at least ready to fire. Beyond this, he was content to wait and let whoever or whatever it was come to the group step in line of sight.

Daran sits up, looking alarmed. “What is it? How far away is it?” he asks, climbing out of his bedroll. He looks up at the moon. “I haven’t been asleep very long.”
"Shh! None of us has. But no point complaining. Just keep it an eye out. And say something if you notice anything." Vondal whispers to Daran as succinctly as possible, and without lowering his guard. If after a few minutes nothing comes of being on higher alert, he'll look to Nif and quietly request if he could go scope out the area. Because for good or ill, out of everyone of the brothers, the dwarf was the most equipped for such dark settings.

As the party watches silently (and I'm going to assume you all are prone, trying to hide in the foot-tall grass — though Nif is the only one that actually rolled), it becomes apparent that there are four creatures approaching. They are taller and broader than humans and don't appear to be hurrying. They might be trying to move stealthily, but it's hard to tell. While they are traveling a little north of the camp, you can all be pretty sure if they stay on course, they'll notice you before too long anyway. Finally, features become clear enough to identify them as orcs.

Round 1: Karl, baddies, Vondal, Nif, Adrom, Daran
Vondal, you can roll your ready action. Like I said, you're all prone, so your ranged attack will be at disadvantage.
If Nif has an idea of the groups heading he will happily lead the way, scouting about 10ft ahead of the group.

Adrom will go to get some wood to make a good fire to pass the night.

Everyone's in a loose circle about 15 feet in diameter, so I'll say you move about 15 feet out of the circle toward the sound. What does Karl do?
Karl moves quietly to each of the party members shaking them gently and whispering “something is out there!”

OOC: Where’s Nif?
Daran sits up, looking alarmed. “What is it? How far away is it?” he asks, climbing out of his bedroll. He looks up at the moon. “I haven’t been asleep very long.”
Nif comes awake and joins vondal, his crossbow loaded and ready to fire.
Edit: Nif tries to find a spot where he can watch the direction that was indicated but can hide.
