Gargan accepts the money from Sizan "Thank you friend, and do not apologise friend. I meant what I said to your...boss? I appreciate the respect given for such an offer by your organisation and I would gladly help if you but asked. Plus I assume that what we have been asked to pursue is more information on this supposed stash of gold no? That helps with the incentive too!"
Gargan will be keeping his fine robes for definite! He will however purchase a few sheets of paper and parchment, a case to keep it in and a set of ink and pen. He would also buy a tent and then return the remaining 16g 62s to Dori from earlier after doing so: "Thank you friend, here is the rest. It is yours, well earned in our encounter in the sewers." he says with a pat on his big friends shoulders. "I know all this city life must be driving you mad, but at least we will be getting out into your territory shortly."
While at the manor he would write a brief note to Tally Fellbranch apologising if the group has not made it back in time for his arrival but inviting him to take measurements himself(and also not to worry about Lif) and then leave it on top of the bar. As he does so he would look around trying to find sign of Lif and speak aloud for Lif's benefit: "Lif my dear friend, if you would be so kind to help make sure that Mr Fellbranch gets this note if we have not yet returned when he visits. He is coming to help us restore this place to it's rightful glory as a full functioning tavern, I hope you will be pleased."
Coming back to the tavern, Dori makes a gesture toward Lif, as if knowing where the spirit is, before heading down in the cellar to grab his gear. Checking to make sure it's all accounted for. Axe, armor, two books....
When he comes back up, the goliath sits at the bar patiently waiting for the others to either return from their shopping adventures or finish getting dressed. It's not long before Sizan appears with a bag of money that he doesn't bother counting. Simply adding it to the rest with a shrug.
The same would be done with the money given by Gargan. Dori slightly surprised, but nods in response, "I don't have much need, but I will hold on to this for you. Or at least for our group." Placing his own hand upon Gargan's shoulder in return. "The city is weird, but having my family with me makes every day easier. "
After everyone is back in the tavern he will address the group
"I thank those of you willing to help with this scarecrow business. This is what I know of the situation currently, outlying farms in the Undercliff are being terrorized by a scarecrow come to life. It has slaughtered livestock, chased horses, and spooked farmers. No people have been killed as yet, and because of that the City Guard has been less than responsive to the threat. We may need to camp out for a few nights to try and track this creature down but I suspect everyone could do with a little fresh air. I suggest we stay here the night and in the morning visit the farmers and begin our hunt. [To Sizan as he accepts his pouch] I apologize for my outburst tonight but in light of the fact that we are all now partners in this endeavor(he'll wave his paws to indicate the manor) you need to be a bit forthcoming with your details and intent if you expect me to follow you. Since trust is a two way cart path, I am entrusting you with this, I am a member of the Emerald Enclave, which should also explain my reluctance to join the Harpers." and he will pull out his amulet and show everyone "much like them, the enclave will reach out to me for help with maintaining the balance between nature and men. None of you are under any obligation to help me with these tasks but it would be appreciated."
Smiling to his big friend Gargan nods to Dori in appreciation of the compliment he has just been paid: “Its a frantic thing city life, but hopefully you will come to like some of the things the city can offer. And don’t worry, I won’t be dragging you to the opera again!”
As Cloudfur addresses everyone Gargan listens with interest, particularly intrigued by the investigation into the scarecrow mystery and Cloudfurs membership of the Emerald Enclave. As his friend finishes he replies “You need only ask for help and I shall give it friend, I care not whom it is that has tasked you with this. Though it is intriguing that you also have joined one of the powerful groups within the city. I expect we shall not want for work over these few months! With regards to the task at hand if you are sure we can wait till morning then that sounds a good plan, hearing what the farmers know before we blindly camp in the winter nights would be most sensible.”
Pausing for a moment and contemplating something Gargan seems to nod to himself before he continues: “In the spirit of disclosing information I should elaborate on my business this day. As I mentioned I visited a Mr Fellbranch about refurbishing our new abode and outfitting it with some new furniture. He seemed a very nice chap and his works were impressive and as such I have begun commissioning him to restore the place, though I did tell him that of course you all must consent also. He estimated around 2000 dragons, which while a hefty price he also expects the job to take around 8 ten days so it is no small piece of work. He seemed happy to accept our friend Raener’s offer to contribute 500dragons to the effort so if we wish to accept the contract then we shall need to raise 1500dragons in the next 8 weeks. I hope I have not been too forward in this matter friends but I see great potential in this place and it would be a waste not to see it’s grandeur returned.
Additionally I have spoken with some of my contacts in the temple of Waukeen and I believe there may be a fellow who could run the tavern for less than our previous offer. I have requested that they meet with us soon so hopefully we will hear from them in the next few days. Again I hope I am not too forward in this matter.”
Cloudfur rummages through his pouches and places 40 dragons on the bartop
"This is what I can spare for the moment towards that end, we should probably inquire about getting a safe or a lockbox if we intend to store money here."
Sizan had simply shook his head in answer about Mitt being his boss. More than that, he doesn't say or clarify in a another motion. For a time after, he simply lets the other speak their piece. While the mention of the debt raises a brow, a subtle furrow of both for a moment after followed by a dismissive shrug is Sizan's only response to it.
"You all seem to be laboring under a number of misunderstandings in regards to my person, so I will try to be frank. Emphasis on the try... Understand, however, that there are some things I am not allowed to discuss or infer due to the nature of the Harpers, to protect you, or for far more personal reasons. If this is not amenable to you all, then so be it. But as another friendly advice going forward, in this city, you won't survive if you don't do your due diligence by treating all with a measure of caution regardless of initial impressions."He looks over to Dori. "Even those you would call family in this city."He focus back on the rest.
"The purpose of my insistence on your going to that meeting was not for recruitment. With the exception of Gargan, and possibly Dori -- though mostly in an endeavor to not underestimate him -- I held no illusion that any of you would accept it. Least of all immediately... The true purpose of it was four fold." He raises four fingers in the air. "The first was to lend more concrete evidence to my affiliations within the city for when that truth would be revealed. The second was to gauge your responses in such a situation as to ascertain what future job would be most appropriate to 'clue' you in on. The Third was to make pungently clear to more connected members of the Harpers my current status and the individuals I have chosen to continue association with. And the fourth was to provide you all some insight as to how many within this city will choose to operate."
He pauses to let those words skin in. "... I am self-aware enough to know that I have obfuscated many facts, cruel as the case may be. Just as I'm aware that were probably a hundred better ways to 'come clean', as it were. It is my belief that once such 'trust' is broken, nothing will truly repair it. Thus, I made what adjustments I could within my limited capacity to do so. Yes, I could've simply stated much of these things. But words are meaningless without proof. And when it comes to the harpers--" He pulls back a bit of cloth revealing the pin on his chest. "--this only means so much when your organization is still 'popular' enough that any joe schmo will go out of their to have one made."
Finally he looks to Dori, starts to say something, then just... doesn't bother. "All of /that/ aside, I am fine with a morning pursuit of matters. Though on the way if possible, I would like to make a few inquires about the Dray as to not waste the entire day. By the nine, it could even be she might have some other interesting stories to tell... But as for the safe, I am afraid aside from the coin necessary for winter clothing come tomorrow, I will not have the funds for a time to 'assist' in a safe."

If Lif or anyone else hadn't done so already, Dori would grab for anything nearby (most likely an empty mug considering he's at the bar) and chuck it at Sizan's head. "You are a dancer of words. Which is fine. You are also a Harper. Which is also fine. But you have decided to join with us and place your name down to this place. Sizan Sidrosin, From Candlekeep. So if you need another pin or a brand for you to wear upon your person to prove who else you have signed allegiance to, then I can help with that."
The goliath shrugging as he turns about in his seat, "I feel sorry for you if you dont have a family of your own. While blood is important, it is not the defining quality of what's important. To Gargan of clan Jurnixus, From Tymanther, and The High Winds Upon The Mountain Flow Through His Cloudfur, I would lay my life down for. And so long as you are with us, Sizan, I will keep you alive, but if you hurt my family with your words or through any other means, none of your gangs or clans that you have sided with will protect you."
"That is... flattering. And... I do have family -- not the Harpers, mind you -- though I suspect one or two would attest to otherwise."Sizan almost seems to scowl past the mask. "But, I do have blood family, and it is partially for their sake that I am here in the first place... As for protection from the Harpers, I'm honestly not expecting anything that will prevent my demise. Delay, maybe. But no more. I am not so important in the grand scheme of things to warrant more than some avoiding working with you when it came be helped. So save the threats and promises." He states, folding his hands behind his back again.
"And to clarify, My intent is not to harm with words or by action, but to educate, assist, and though it may not seem like it from your perspective... to learn from you all." He admits, looking to Dori's back. "But I am a realist and pragmatic... among other things. Thus ultimately, I will hold no ill-will towards you if you feel that you and this.. 'family' is threatened because of me and any future actions, and decide to 'act' upon it. My only request in such an event is that >you< yourself do not become a threat to them in the process. Because believe it or not, I... liiike… hmm... I do not wish at least for trouble to befall you all, at least."
As Dori refers to himself and Cloudfur as family Gargan, or rather Gargyrilaxx, feels a deep tug at his heart that completely catches him off guard. As the exchange with Sizan continues he can't stop himself from simply staring at his big friend, trying to process the emotions that have suddenly flooded in. He knew he had come to care for his friends, that they truly were his friends and not simply products of his persona, but he was not prepared for this.
He had only ever known one family, for he was spawn of Syrylaxxilius herself, and he had never questioned what such a thing meant. But this was completely unexpected. The simple statement Dori had made somehow stirred feelings that were more powerful than those that he had ever felt for his clutch.
As Sizan is still talking he quietly moves out the front door and heads upstairs, continuing all the way to the attic room where he might contemplate this unexpected moment.
"I think you make the world out to be more complicated than it truly is Sizan.....try not to think too hard about it or your place within it." and with that he'll pat Dori on the shoulder, smile, and head upstairs to his room for the night.
"Sadly, I do not have such a luxury... or inclination for such self-deception." He says, though the last half is muttered as he makes for his own bedroom on the second floor. As per the norm, Sizan meticulously put together minor traps(caltrops, trip rope, ball bearings, and so on) in his room before heading to bed himself.

Unless there something more to burn, or Sizan can at least retroactively had purchased a bedroll... sadly yes. Otherwise, he'd make sure to get a fire burning. So, I'm seeing some Con Saves in the party's future, minus Dori?

(Well that fire was several hours ago. You also don't really have any wood, so unless you want to start burning the rest of the furniture you're kind of SOL there. I mean it's indoors so you won't be subjected to exhaustion rules. If you want to retcon a bedroll(s) I'll allow that. Perhaps an item for your todo list tomorrow).
You have a less than restful sleep on the cold, filthy floor of your new home, wake up in the morning and prepare for your day. I'd imagine you're going to find somewhere to eat, unless you want rations.
