Watching as Sizan's body goes limp Gargan looks around for a moment desperately trying to think what to do. Feeling out of options he simply hurls another fire bolt at the last construct, hoping that it will go down before any more of the group does.
Ok so I know I can't move closer to blankethead - but he's already in melee range correct? so I can just attack him? If so - the wolf will attempt to bite them and since I have pack tactics and I believe either Dori or Gargan are within 5 feet of it as well - it cancels out the disadvantage I have because of frightened and I know these are non-magical attacks....
[Bite: 10 Damage: 9 piercing damage - and it must succeed on a DC 11 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone.
ok we're doomed.....well it was nice playing with y'all :)
The firebolt screams towards the scarecrow, hitting it square in the torso and igniting it's jacket and the straw sticking out in various places. It looks back towards Gargan and let's out a deafening shriek. As he does, Cloudfur jumps up and latches on to it's arm with his jaw. Though he can't bite hard enough to injure it he does get a firm grip which the scarecrow tries to shake off.
Dori frees his weapon from the wood and turns to face the beast once more. Chest and one arm in flames, with a rabid wolf hanging from its other arm .. so (to blatantly rip off the infamous words of Matt Mercer) Dori, how do you want do this?
It had 16HP left - so you got it by 2 (double fire for 12, half axe for 6)
As the last of the constructs collapses in front of him Gargan just stands there for a moment, staring at Sizan’s body. Some how despite only knowing him a short while and all of his suspicions and mistrust towards the fellow his death stung dearly. Again Gargan, or rather Gargyrilaxx, struggled with the emotion that such events stirred within him. The comradeship that the group had formed was far stronger than he had ever realised and to lose one of their number, no matter how new he was to the group, left a huge pang of guilt in his heart.
Looking to his other battered friends he quickly regained his senses and moved to their aid asking “Friends, how are your wounds? Are you in any mortal danger?” Only after uttering the words did he suddenly realise how much pain he himself was in, his ferocious instincts now settling after the fight and letting the wounds he had suffered finally register.
There was no hesitation. No slowing. No doubt in his mind as the goliath continued through with the momentum of tearing the axe free of the barn and into the scarecrows neck to free the head from the body. Leaving the construct headless and burning as it collapses into the snow.
"My injuries are insignificant and nothing a night's rest won't recover. Our dear friend, Sizan Sidrosin from Candledeep, is something else entirely."
It was just dusk when they showed up and the battle lasted all of 2 minutes. So it's early evening. You could make it back to town even, but may have difficulty getting in without someone inside knowing you're coming.
Moving over to stand with Cloudfur and Dori Gargan stops for a moment over Sizan's body and pauses for a moment, deep in contemplation. After a moment he nods to himself, as if in agreement with some conversation going on inside his head, before looking up to the others: "It is not yet too late, perhaps it is best if we go to the Boldfoots for now? They will hopefully be able to provide us some aid for now as we wait until morning."
His tone now turns more grim and he kneels down to Sizan on the floor before continuing: "I would also like to suggest that we send a paper bird to contact someone in the city asking for aid with our poor friend here, should we be able to find it. With luck they will be able to get to us, or at the very least meet us half way, in the morning as time is of the essence if we are to find a way to save him." He then takes a moment to close Sizan's eyes, making sure to keep the face mask in his customary position and leaving his face concealed. Looking back up to the others "No matter what we thought of him he fought beside us..." Turning to look directly at Cloudfur before continuing "even intervened between ourselves and our foes. He may have been shrouded in mystery but he was becoming one of us. It is the least we can do to try no?"
"With some luck our friend here has not yet met Kelemvor, so there may be some hope yet to return him to us. We should contact the Harpers for assistance with that, if he was as important as he made it sound, they might be interested in returning him to their service. I can also reach out to the Emerald Enclave as well but as a new member, I am not sure how much help they'll be. We should get out of the cold however and soon. I can carry the four bodies back to the village for the night, with a stop at the Boldfoot's residence to inform them that the scarecrows shall no longer be a bother and to apologize for the mess."
You stack the 4 bodies on top of Cloudfur and limp over towards the house. The door opens and Dolan answers. A look of shock and horror falls over his face as he looks at the two of you, looking fairly battered, and then past you to a horse with a dead body draped over it. You briefly explain what happened, that they are safe and that you're heading back into the village. You make your way back to the Bard & Bull in the village. Night has come and it's getting quite cold. You have a horse, 3 'dead' scarecrows, a dead lizard-man noble Yuan-Ti and two bloodied adventurers standing outside the pub.
Giving Cloudfur a quick stroke of his mane he says to the others "I shall go and find us some help friends". With that he goes to enter the Bard & Bull, if it is still open he will immediately look inside for the friendly Gnome they encountered previously.
Dori doesn't argue. He doesn't speak much at all actually. The goliath following along with others quietly. At one point he'd pull free the thin blanket from his bed roll to drape over the bodies.
The horse nods at Gargan and stomps his hooves a bit in the snow.
(OOC: just an FYI I can only stay in my wild shape for an hour so if we are staying the rest of the night here and can store the bodies somewhere I'll revert back to tabaxi form once that's taken care of. After a rest, I can do it again - but I believe it took us a couple hours to get here from the city gates)
While you'd normally expect a tavern to be jam packed at this time, this one is not. In fact it is almost completely empty. The gnome is still there, looking as if he's probably cleaning up for the night. He stops and looks at you when he walks in and almost drops the glass he was holding. "Gods what happened? Did it get after you? Here, sit down",he pulls a chair out at a nearby table, "I'll get you something. Where are the others you were with?"

Feeling the axe hit the side of the barn, Dori flexes and strains before yanking the weapon free and swinging at the scarecrow once again.

Cloudfur drops to the ground, exhausted and reverts back to cat form, panting heavily and just laying in the deep snow.
His paw flops around a bit before finding Dori's ankle and casts his last spell cure wounds for 6 hp.

Is that the plan? Camp in the barn for the night? Did you want to check in with the Boldfoots or anyone else?

Suddenly the tabaxi is replaced by a roan colored draft horse who looks at you and snorts and whinneys. [HP: 24]

Dori silently does as the horse demands. Expecting the scarecrows to be rather light as he placed each one, then finally Sizan.
