Kanus watches as Bandits spill out of the magical darkness that had just formed in from of him. He was far too distracted by Jack rushing in to even worry about them as they ran past however. "What in the 'ell?" he whispered to himself as he tested the darkness with his boot, sticking one foot in, then pulling one foot out, then sticking one foot in and moving it about.
Once exiting the area of the darkness spell and getting their bearings the bandits, including their captain, scatter as quickly as possible. They are quickly heading for the nearby alley way just trying to get out of sight. A couple of them duck back into the bar.
So if I have a good handle on the situation, the area of the darkness spell exists just outside the alleyway, which Gargan, Cloudfur and Jack have headed into. Kanus is on the other side and since the spell are is 15" round, is unable to see any of you from the other side. The alley you've ducked into jogs a bit to the right and then exits on the other side (on to Soothsayer's Way, if you want to check the map).
Also at this point obviously you know Yagra is at least associated with the Zhentarim in some way. You did see the familiar flying snake markings on at least a couple of the assailants. You still don't know who the Elf is but is obviously at least ranking on these bandits in the Zhentarim.
Returning her voice box back to normal as she went, Jack made her out alongside Cloudfur and Gargan. The moment they are about to breach its edge, she shields her eyes as if anticipation of ward off the sun. Thus, when Kanus next sees her, her eyes are as normal as ever again. "Ah! You're still here! Perfect. I'd normally say 'bring it here, big guy' for the help, buuuuut we should all probably make ourselves scare, eh?" After the whispered greeting, Jack flashes a toothy smile. "C'mon. I know a few places we should be able to take it easy 'till things calm down here. At least for a few hours. I'll explain everything there... 'less you rather spend the next day or so in holding."
On that note, as well as a passing pat on Kanus' shoulder, Jack leads to a nearest Harper Safe Haven. While preferable avoiding any City Watch through playing it cool, and coaching the others how to do the same along the way. As soon as it felt safe enough to do so, she starts whistling an uplifting tune that seems to restore her vitality.

Kanus Tredecim
Kanus smiled back at the playfulness of Jack, he'd been waiting around looking for an in on a business transaction, but this seemed more fun. "A'right, lead the way, Kanus by the way"
(OOC - pass without trace is a concentration spell - and I didn't cast any other concentration spells so theoretically it should still be active - I'll let the DM rule on it though)
[Stealth: 21] (or +10 if Tanzier allows Pw/oT to be active)
(Jack, Considering you're the only Harper I wouldn't say anyone would be much help. We're really talking about a check to see if you can recall and find your way to a known location. Also, Pass without a Trace is still active to the +10 applies).

(@Tanzier Eh, worth a shot. Alright, let's do this. On another note, can Kanus benefit from PowT if Argent/Cloudfur would be willing to extend to him? It doesn't specify a 'when cast' condition, only that creatures you choose within 30ft.)
OOC: The good news is that I didn't actually do anything, so if they stop and question me I'll tell them that I saw someone being attacked, stepped in to guard, then a spell was cast and the bandits escaped. No lies :)
(I've seen different rulings on this but my take is that since it doesn't say 'when cast', it's more like an aura that affects anyone nearby regardless of when it was cast. So it would affect Kanus).
A couple of city watchmen come running around the corner, but being a bit slow when they get the tavern in sight the only thing left is the darkness spell which, from a distance, looks no different than a shadow. As they get closer it becomes more obvious but by then you'd used its cover to duck out through the alley. You keep moving north, weaving in and out of streets and alleys to keep out of sight. You emerge just off Crossbow Lane. A bit farther north on Quaff Alley is a tavern you know to be "Harper Friendly", called the Cracked Cauldron. You walk in to the smallish place which is only moderately busy. You find a table in a corner.
At this point it appears no one is the wiser. Frankly none of it was your fault anyway although the lingering magic may trigger some kind of investigation. I'm not sure I would hurry back to the Portal any time soon though ..
If no one else beats her to it, Jack takes the corner that allowed for keeping an eye out on the front door. Just in case. She takes her time getting settled into her seat, and never loses the smug smile. But rather it be because of a stern look from her companions, or something else altogether, her demeanor shifts to a slightly more serious one before long. "Well, that was certainly fun. Almost got left for dead back there, I think, but fun nonetheless. Who'da thought a little flirting from this beautiful face would set a man off so much?" She looks to Kanus specifically, and even paused long enough for answer before moving on.
"The name's Jack he Nimble, by the way. And these here are my neww friends? Friends! That's Gargan the Dark, and Cloudfur the Bold." She gestures to each in turn. "Thanks again, for all that. And for what it's worth, sorry for getting you a little 'tied up' in all that. Do... you know of the Zhentarium?"Jack asks innocently.

Cloudfur sort of gives Jack some side eye at her nickname of him, but let's it go and orders some hot water from a wait staff walking past to brew some of his tea.

Kanus Tredecim
Kanus pulled out a chair and sat across from the fair faced Jack, he thought back to his days in the Field of Triumph, how many times he'd fought for just the favor of a young lass let alone for the prospect of actual romance. "In my experience, a fine face like yours is all the excuse some men need to raze entire cities"
Kanus watched as Jack introduced the rest of the group and nodded at each in turn but when she apologized and asked about the Zhentarim he grinned. "No need to be sorry ya, as of late I haven't had much...occasion to utilize my skillset. As for the Zhentarim, let me think..."
OOC: DM, any Zhentarim information that Kanus might be privy to? He lived most of his life in the Field of Triumph, so probably plenty of shady characters around. (Intelligence check in case it's needed to recall: 12)
After the chaos of in the portal with Yagra followed by the incident outside Gargan is just relieved to be sat down and not looking over his shoulder for a moment. Taking a brief moment of contemplation as he goes over the events of the afternoon he muses to himself: What a strange day this is. Two new acquaintances as well. Will make quite the story one day my time in this here city of splendours.
Suddenly pulled out of his thoughts as their new companions begin conversation.Looking over at the newest of the newcomers Gargan greets him as he begins to think on the Zhentarim. "Greetings friend. Twas most fortuitous of you to arrive when you did and we are most grateful for your intervention. I am indeed Gargan, though more formally Gargan of clan Jurnixus from far away Tymanther. I don't believe I caught your name in amongst the chaos of our arrival but I am pleased to make your acquaintance none the less." With that he offers a hand in greeting to the fellow.
As the tabaxi sips at some very fragrant herbal tea he smiles at the large armored person sitting with them.
"Well met, Kanus I believe you said? You have the honor of making the acquaintance of The High Winds Upon The Mountain Flow Through His Cloudfur. May Silvanus smile down upon you and your family. How is it you came to help Jack? are you two familiar?" and he'll sip more tea.
Kanus snapped too a bit as he was pulled from his thoughts, "Uh, oh yea Kanus is the name. Well met Gargan." He then looked to Cloudfur, "Not familiar, not yet anyways. Just saw a pretty lady being treated raw and hopped in to do what I could." he flashed a quick smile to Jack to show he was being playful and then continued, "So you call yourselves The High Winds Upon the Mountain Flow Through his Cloudfur? That would be quite the title to write on a writ of recommendation for sure, how did you all come up with that?"
"It was given to me by my clan when I was born as is our tradition. How did you come up with a name as short as Kanus? Were your elders in a rush?" and he peers back at him. "as for fitting upon documents, it fit well enough on the deed to our manor here in Waterdeep......"
