About now Lukian, Ebonitus and the halflings come in carrying the body of Quinry. Birute goes over to the body and makes a sign of benediction over the body. She turns to the halflings and says "he fell in defense of our caverns and shall be remembered as a hero! How is he called?" One of the halflings pipes up "Quniry he was Quinry."Birute practices saying the name several times and then calls one of the Orclings over. She says something to him in Orcish and you catch the word 'Quinry' mentioned several times. Birute turns to the party and says "this one" pointing to the Orcling she has been speaking to "will now be known as Quinry in memory of the one that fell".
At Birute's pronouncement Old Pert says something to her in Orcish. The other halflings look surprised that he can speak what sounds to be fluent Orcish.
D.O.R.K. then says to Birute "Clan Mother Birute. What of the bodies? What of the arms and armor? Will these you keep for the next generation? Or are they largely of no use to you, or yours to tend to in your own time?"
Birute looks at the bodies 'leave them for the scavengers. As for the armour and weapons let the halflings take them as recompense!'
((What are the chances that Quinry's death, the last rounds of combat and Devin's only action since the end of battle was to cast 1 spell, that less than 1 minute has passed if each round was only 6 seconds? ))
Devin gets back to his feet and helps Vark load the items into the Bag of Holding for transport. Turning to Bitrute he smiles "Long Days and Pleasant Nights to you ma'am. I am glad we were able to aid you this day. I am sorry for your loss." He bows to her and gives a smile to the little ones.
"Let us escort the other folk back to town and finish D's mission." he says as he heads for the door.
If and when he sees Beedo he gives him dark look and can't help but give a snide comment also "Fightin's done, its safe to come back."
(I think originally I'd been waiting on responses from Torunn regarding the identifying (to see if he might subborn about it), as well as Lukia and Ebon in regards to Beedo. But ah well, moving on!)
Beedo had remained outside to finish clearing out the shrapnel trap. Whether Lukian and Ebonitus paid heed to anything he said is perhaps a different story. But when Devin comes out giving the goblin a dark look, he scoffs his rolls his eyes. "Yea, yea."Is all he said as he returned the job at hand. For once, he had been too injured for a long conversation, even if a bit one-side on his part.
Meanwhile...
D.O.R.K nods, and with the bag of holding field, would try to organize the braver halflings, along with Ebonitus, Torunn, and Vark at the very least, in stripping the Orogs of their gear to have either stored in the bag(assuming such was even possible!), or at least packed together enough into bundles that some rope from can bind into separate bundles for people to carry out; be they just D.O.R.K and Vark, or distributed among everyone. She leaves it to her brother to help with logistics and in creating easier methods for transportation in the end. But before they depart, as per Birute's wishes, she at least would see to having the bodies dragged out of the cave for scavengers to pick apart.
The party load up Golemogote and head back to the main road. The younger halflings are tickled pink at riding on an elepphant. As they reach the main road, Old Pert takes them off down a side road to a small valley where they can see a collection of small - i.e. halfling sized houses - and fenced fields. Some of the houses have been burnt and a veritable swarm of halflings are moving over them fixing rafters, replacing thatch, etc. As the party comes into view, the halflings stop work and look ready to run. Old Pert hops down from where he had been riding and yells out "do not fear we've been rescued! Gather round and I'll tell all." The halflings swarm over and Old Pert relates the story of their capture and rescue by the Saviors of the Caves. There is a collective sigh at the death of the Quinry and exclamations of 'wonder at D.O.R.K. As the goblins peer out of the back of the cart where they had been hiding until now Old Pert explains "I know what you've all heard about goblins but this one is a valiant warrrior"pointing to Vark "who never gives up and if knocked down stands back up! The other one I'm not sure about but he"s a bit mouthy and probably more like a normal goblin so watch your valuables and the sheep!" After he has answered all of their questions - and there are many he continues "right lets get Quinry laid out - we'll bury 'im tomarra and then get ready for a feast to thank the Saviours of the Caves!"
There is a lot of tooing and froing as the haflings get food ready for the feast.
At some time during the party Old Pert says to Lukian "I've got a small something for you that might be of help? follow me."Lukian follows Old Pert back to his house where he rummages inside a chest and eventually pulls out what lools like a small black cylinder. As he passes it over to Lukian ...
What happens (Lukian only pls) ....
Lukian hears a feminine voice in his head "at last a worshiper of The Morninglord"
Lukian looks sharply — surprised — at Old Pert. "What is this?
'In truth i don't know. When i first found it years back now I heard a voice in my head asking about the Rose and Gold god. At the time i didn't know what it was talking about so I put it in the chest and kinda forgot about it. Then when I saw your shield I remembered that the Rose and Gold god as another name for the god you worship. And I thought to myself maybe you might know what it was - hmmm?"Old Pert responds.
As Lukian examines the object he realises that it is shaped very much like a sword hilt. There is even a slot at its base where the blade might once have been attached. As Lukian turns the object over yet again ....
The voice once again speaks into his mind with what might be described as a tone of exasperation "you could just ask me you know"
Lukian's mouth opens and closes as he stares at the cylinder. Finally, he says, "Yes, I follow the Morninglord. I am Lukian Silverspear." He pauses before asking, "Who are you?"
Again Lukian hears a voice - this time in a bit of sing-song tone - in his head ...
"I am known as Dawnbringer, I was created to bring light into darkness To my enemies I am destruction incarnate, but To my friends kindness personified"
OOC: Apologies Orileo, Torunn did respond but it didn't post.
Like a child that has been told to pack away his toys as it was not the time to play with them, Torunn puts away the bits and pieces he has collected.
Once they reach the village, Torunn will partake in the necessary pleasantries but will get away so he can clean his musket before getting started on the items he picked up, inspecting their make.
First Torunn will start by looking for any inscriptions or runic writing that may indicate the items purpose or use if that gets him nowhere he tries another path.
1. Starting with the helmet, he thinks about what he has been told about magic helmets, puts it on, looks for one of the goblins. When he spots one, he thinks "BOOO!" and waits a moment to see if he gets a reaction, but if that doesn't work he will have to try some other things and takes it back off.
2. Secondly he inspects the axe and looks for any signs of any enchanted edge or extra keenness. Not being particularly strong, he attempts to lift it and give it a light swing to see if anything feels different.
3. Looking at the gloves, Torunn tries the only thing he has heard of about magic gauntlets and looks for something heavy to lift. Failing that he puts it with the other items he has failed to identify and looks over at the shield.
4. Torunn just looks at the shield for a moment and shakes his head, "I knew i should have paid attention when Old Al' was teaching me about all the things shields can do. Guess that one will have to be trial and error."
D.O.R.K is very stiff in response to the halfling's wonder, having not quite expected it. The usual so far had been a mix bag for sure. Yet the leanings were generally in favor of seeing her as but some mere construct, rather than the blessings of she who symbol she bore a representation of upon her forehead. As for Vark, he actually puffed out his chest and struck a triumphant pose for the praise. Beedo on the other hand lets out an "Oi!"and angrily shakes his fist at at Quinry until D.O.R.K interevened, not that Old Pert might've noticed anyhow with so many questions to field.
Once the halflings dispersed and the group were freed to interact as they pleased, D.O.R.K saw to make sure Mr. G was nice and settled in someplace close to the village, but not so close an accident could occur. It is at Mr. G's side she sat and toiled away with Vark on fixing what could be fixed regard her plating, as well as shifting some of the inner fibers back into place to be mended with magic. Some yet still has to be scrapped even with mending, and she would need to wait on her brother to turn at least one of the armor plates into spare parts for her. But its what the duo did while waiting for celebrations. Meanwhile, Beedo did his best to spite Old Pert by scarring away little halfling children that got too close to the trio. Although perhaps after the first couple of times, they either call his bluff or tease the grumpy goblin into hiding back in wagon to nap away the remaining day.
