D.O.R.K stands there for a few moments after the reply, before lightly face palming. "It is blessing of her Ladyship. Not without limitation. Now focus, Corporal. The name? Wish directly report successful Orog removal."She expresses around the time she had finished climbing into place on Golemgote to lead the first part of the trek. At some point after likely exhausting much of her magics, D.O.R.K says without much prompting or looking back to the others. "I ordered it. Beedo's retreat. Before the conflict."

Devins snorts in derision after he hears D say this.
"That's not what I saw. He ran like a coward while we still fought. That's all that matters. He ran. I'll die defending you D or fighting at your side, but I'll not trust him again."
"And that is the difference between you and him. Between our faiths, as well."She states simply, still not looking back anyone. "In the event a battle looks to be lost, I was incapacitated, and Beedo or Vark yet remained, they had standing orders to quit the field and regroup. If a rescue was tenable, then they were to do so at a more opportune time. If not, they were to take Golemgote to Waterdeep or a known Red Knight primarily owned outpost, and make a report; ensuring another task force of the collective is created in our steed as quickly as possible."
She bowed her head a slightly at that. "A nigh impossible order to fulfill given the general populaces more than reasonable prejudice against goblinoids at this point in time. So, it was more request than order... In addition, it is not within the doctrine of my Ladyship's worshipers to have her acolytes fight needlessly to the last. Not unless it serves an important future stratagem that ensures a war is won."She looked back finally on that point and says, "Though it is said her relationship to Torm is close, but do not confuse her or the faithful as being entirely of the same mind and virtue. I remained because at the very least a rescue operation, if one was possible, would be easier with less foes to deal with. Vark remained because he is still learning.... But if you cannot believe me, or wish to delude yourself further, you are free to." She turned back to focus on guiding golemgote.

"Ma'am, the Lieutenant is not a follower of the Lady of Strategy. It is better that we do not reveal we have a secret means …."is all that D.O.R.K. hears before the message cuts out.

"That doesn't change my feelings. You've just made it clear he can't be trusted because he'll run and he'll have orders to do so. So I can't count on him no matter what. Vark disobeyed orders then and stood strong and stayed. Beedo ran, he took his orders and ran. Nothing changes. If things get bad he can't be trusted because he has orders to run."
Devin replies, annoyance clear but also a tinge of anger in his voice when he speaks of Beedo.
"Then you do not in turn trust me. Trust my judgement."She shook her head, and for a while is quiet. "... I will not rescind the order, and do not expect for Vark to disobey a second time. Just as most of you were willing to abandon an entire village for the sake of progress to questionable others of your kind, I cannot in good conscious remove a contingency plan in play without another in place that is not reliant purely on luck or hope. Mother... is already disappointed in me as-is."She admits.

"Well, at least we have clearer expectations of what will happen and won't be blind sided when it happens again. Fair enough."
He stops and looks up, a bit exasperated,
"About the villagers, I regret that. You were right and I was wrong. I was a bit too mission focused back then. The mission is still important, but I can't be blind and uncaring to those we can help along the way. I see that now. We did a good thing with the halflings. The world is certainly a lot bigger than Waterdeep. My whole life has been about looking out for number one and staying alive. It feels good to help others instead of just focused on myself. Thanks for helping me see that D."
Lukian gives a look of interest to both Dork and Devin at the mention of abandoning an entire village, but the elf does not comment. (Or is Lukian gone looking for Old Pert?)
In all honesty i'm not sure where this argument is taking place but I think it is on the back of Golemogote as the party is making its way deeper into the Surbrin Hills. As to closing off the loop with Old Pert, he thanks Lukian but thinks going after the Hill Giants and fixing the village is more important. He will however send a message to Young Pert with the next merchant/wagon train making its way to Yartar.

Yea, on the back of Gol while travelling into the hills.
D.O.R.K glances back right after Devin speaks his piece, seeming almost uncomfortable -- as much as a construct with limited emotive skills can seem anything -- prior to focus back on the road ahead without another word. If she sees the look on Lukian in the process however, a minute at least passes before she said, "This was long before your time. When our first guidance lead us to the town of Nightstone, though it may be called something differently at this point."

"Giants had bombarded the town and the townsfolk had fled and hid in caves that were occupied by goblins. The people were captured by the goblins. We know this because Beedo and Vark were a part of the goblin clan that lived in the caves. We arrived to investigate what the giants had done and found this out. Another group of people came and claimed the town. We helped them fight off marauding orcs and those people who claimed the town said they would free the people from the caves, and the goblins. We then continued to follow the trail of the giants as our mission was to investigate the giants. At that time I was too focused on the mission, and we did not know know each other very well. Things are different now, and I would have done things differently now." Devin explains.
"There were members of the town guard still at the keep in the village. They allied with the newcomers. We left it for them to handle as they said they would. We could have stayed and made sure but..."
"Our main mission took priority. And though we are clerics, the closest often to the deities across existence, we cannot always see the greater depths of the stratagem and usually only at the discretion of beings greater than ourselves. We can only live and die by our choices, and have faith that it is enough in the end. And if not, may we seek atonement, and be able to pass along our new insights to others that are to walk behind us." She states, breaking her silence but maintaining sight upon the non-existent road ahead of them.
"Clarification. There were three goblins that we convinced to join us. Gwerk, however, who I had in my naivety insisted would be Devin's acolyte if he but gave her a chance, as Beedo and Vark became mines, upon discovering she had talent and touch, died in defense of it." She paused. Though whether it was to let it sink in, or merely because the reminder touched her deeply is hard to say. A moment at least passes before she speaks up again, "On the subject of Beedo and Vark, befriending them was not done on a whim. But... it was not entirely done so as a tactical decision either." She admits as much. But more than that, she refrained from readily divulge even then.
