After the fight Devin helps clean up and resettle the camp and heal those in need.
In the night he is visited again in a dream by Mystra.
You are doing well my servant. You grow in wisdom. I grant thee new powers to augment your growing ones. Pay attention to the world around you, you will see many things you may have missed before. I am watching you and am pleased.
In the morning he spends time preparing spells and is pleased to find that he can now prepare more.
"Thank you my lady." He whispers as he finishes.
After handing out goodberries for the days meal he makes sure his water skins are topped off.
Aslan flies down from a tree and settles on his pack when he climbs up onto Gol for the days travel.
As they approach the bridge he smiles at D at her inquiry.
"Weary? I have the constitution of an elephant!" He replies cheerfully. "I am ready to go when you are."
He looks around to see what he can see from atop Gol.
"This must be Secomber. I, for one, am looking forward to a mug of ale. I also am in need of a few supplies I think. Let's head in. I can help take the lead in town, sure."
Torunn goes back to sleep after the fight. As he dreams he hears the faint ringing of forge bells.
"You are doing well my son of the forge. It looks like your project is almost finished, it will be very helpful in this quest. In addition I will provide a guide towards your next project which help you in other situations. Finally I am passing along some skills with these items to allow you to use them to maximum effect."
Torunn wakes up, makes this sign of the hammer and prays to Gond for a long moment before having breakfast. He will sit on Gold, quietly reflecting on on his dream.
Arriving at Secomber 1)You have been walking on a fairly well defined trail - running east to west and paralleling the large river or about half a day now (sorry forgot to mention it in the previous post) which you had intersected at about lunchtime. 2) As you move onto the bridge a human dressed in chain and carrying a Halberd steps out of a guard house on the town side of the bridge who looks at Golemogote in surprise but still stands his ground saying "who are you, what is your purpose in visiting Secomber?" As he says this you can see that he keeps peering over his shoulder obviously distracted by something going on in the town square behind him! 3) Party Order is I assume Golemogote - driven by D.O.R.K. with Toruun, Meiva and Devin in the Howdah and Beedo and Vark in the cart behind and Jaylen riding on Trayan bringing up the rear.
Devin slides of the side of the elephant and stands in front of it.
"Greetings and well met. I am Devin. Myself and my companions," he turns and gestures to the group, "seek lodging in your town. We number 7 total and are weary from the road."
He smiles as he continues.
"We have travelled from Waterdeep and follow a floating castle. Have you seen such a thing within the last few days? It was last seen headed this direction and may have passed nearby."
D.O.R.K's gaze lingers only for half a moment more before nodding in acceptance and looking forward again. "Course confirmed. Then I will remain silent until requested." She states in an almost chipper tone. Though it could not have been more than a few seconds after, and despite all intentions, her attention wavers to the past. At a realization that she never completed the landscape in the mud, or the figures for that matter. And yet, its incompletion did not bother her. Rather...
She visibly starts at the call from the guard, and only just barely calls out "Emisa" in time to stop Golemgote. The sudden stop proves enough to awaken Vark from his half-asleep stupor in the cart, but Beedo continues snoring away. Seeing Devin ready to get off, she sees to it that Golemgote kneels long enough for it. Of the guards concern with the center of town, she says nothing, but kept her attention roughly on that direction.
1)"Floating castle, you say! Well I never" the guard scratches his head and says "I ain't seen no Floatin' Castle but those two in there" pointing over his shoulder "may know something about it!"As the party enters the gatehouse, the Guard says ticking off things on his fingers "oh yeah I almost forgot what with the excitement and all. One - all weapons to be kept scabbarded, two - all damage by mounts"looking up at Golemogote "to be paid for, three - curfew is 2 hours after sunset until one hour before sunrise and four - donations to the Orphans Breakfast and Guard's Retirement Fund"pointing to a locked box on the wall in the gateway "most gratefully received!"
2)As the party makes its way through the gatehouse, donating whatever they consider appropriate, they enter the Town Square. Much to their surprise they see two large well dressed humanoid like figures, much bigger than Stuffenmouth lying down in what appears to be deep conversation with the some of the townsfolk whilst others just look on in amazement.
D.O.R.K merely nodded while Vark and Beedo -- who may or may not have caught all that -- laugh and grumble respectively at the rules. Aside from that, once given the clear to pass she gives Devin enough time to climb back aboard if he so wished before move on inside. Somewhat against her word on the way inside, she felt the need to stop and donate all but the ten shards to her name.
(Total: 2gp, 18sp, and 98cp)
Vark follows suit with a 3 dragons of his own. But Beedo, well... he starts to pull out a single silver, thinks about it, looks to D.O.R.K and Vark look at him expectantly, and then sighs as he tosses in a dragon of his own. Just the one! "Ya know yer jus' encourage'n 'em ta be lazier 'an a bugbear."He comments on as he made his way grumbling back to the cart, only to be stopped midway with a hug from the construct. "Can't... breathe... Gaah..."
Several apologies and a laughing Vark later, as the party makes their way through the Town Square, seeing the giant humanoids immediately sends D.O.R.K reaching for a weapon. She stops short at just grasping the handle, and eventually calms further as to release her hold altogether to look to Devin for instructions. While awaiting them however, mental files are flipped through to try and place -- to confirm her suspicion of race.
"Thank you good sir. I am sure we will be able to follow the rules of the town. They seem much easier than the rules of Waterdeep. Are there stables for our use or an inn that we can stay in?"
As Devin passes by the box he passes his hand over it but conceals what he drops into it.
He does not remount the elephant but instead leads on foot.
Directing his attention towards the large humanoids with interest he recalls his study of giants before his departure on this quest to see what he knows of the ones that are here. Here is an opportunity he thinks to learn more.
Catching out of the corner of his eye D's movement he begins to react to stop her but relaxes as he sees that she has also relaxed. Beedo will probably need more watching than anyone. And of course who knows how thre townsfolk will react to goblins amongst them. Though the guard didn't give any pause to their presence.
But now Devin is conflicted. Do they see what the giants presence is about or find a place settle in first? But the pressing need of the quest, as Devin has begun to call it, drives his decision. He steers Gol towards where the giants are to hear the conversation or perhaps even read their lips if he cannot hear. He studies their body language to guage the atmosphere of the conversation and mood of the participants.
Devin everybody seems pretty relaxed and as far as you can work out, the townsfolk are simply talking about the history of Secomber as you catch snatches of conversation such as "... more'n 500 years", "... ruins of Hastarl", ".... capital of Athalantar."
As Devin moves closer to the two giants and the townsfolk he hears the first one say “we’re looking for the remains of a cloud giant castle that crashed in the area aeons ago.”At this point the second giant speaks up and says “yes we recently found the remains of a giant sized vase, which we believe may have been a decoration in the castle’s foyer.”When one of the townsfolk says “what does it look like?”, the first giant says “well, when it was complete it was probably about 20 feet tall and it has depictions of giants and dragons fighting a battle among the clouds.”
D.O.R.K's eyes suddenly flash red again. Acting quickly, she stops Gol long enough for Vark to take command in her place and continue to follow along behind. Then with Beedo in tow, unsummoned but seeming curious of her intent, the short hastily makes her way over to whisper into Devin's ear. "Warning. Those are cloud giants. Noblemen within the Ordinig, or so they see themselves. Potential for possessing some degree of moderately dangerous magic: High. Physical Weakness. None. Mental Weakness. Gamblers. Otherwise, weakness same as other noblemen in all other regards." D.O.R.K grabs his shoulder to stop him briefly, and then motions back to jalyen. "May wish to approach with Servant Jaylen as second, for they value a measure of duplicity."
D.O.R.K steps off to the right and slightly back behind Devin, positioning herself as if some type of bodyguard.

OOC: I was counting my XP wrong so Meiva actually leveled up, after all (Thank you for the heads-up, Grant). Here's a late post for that!
That night, Meiva dreams of standing by an oak tree, some thirty feet tall. Its outermost branches sway in the wind, and with the strange clarity only experienced in dreams, Meiva suddenly realizes that the creaking of wooden limbs is a voice speaking to her.
"Young one,"the voice asks, "Why did your father heal the bandit?"
Meiva answers calmly.
"His sympathy overpowered his ability to be pragmatic."
"And why was this?" asks the voice.
Meiva frowns.
"Because...he lacked the wisdom necessary to balance the two."
The wind begins to blow more strongly, and the voice is louder as the tree's limbs sway back and forth.
"And why, young one, did you not heal your companions during your most recent battle?"
"They could protect themselves. And after the--"Meiva begins, but the voice cuts her off.
"After the battle, your companions could have been dead. I have granted you healing abilities beyond even their's, yet you did not use them."
"I have healed them many times. Must I not keep a balance between using your power to help the good and to harm the evil?" Meiva protests.
"Who do you think you harm the evil for? If even a single good creature perishes, a victory against a hundred evil creatures is not as sweet." The wind begins to die down, and the voice begins to grow more quiet.
"You have done well to begin this quest to restore the balance in a larger sense. I will grant you wisdom to help you remember what and who you must complete this quest for."
Meiva begins to speak, but suddenly she has awoken. So she prays a prayer of thanksgiving, instead.
Torunn watches the Giants with little interest, as he will allow Devin to do the talking. He will just stay up in the howdar, idly carving different engravings into the stock of his weapon. He will listen to the conversation but is not actively getting involved.
Devin nods to D. "Yes that seems to line up with what I know of cloud giants."
He considers his approach and then looks back to Jaylen. He motions for her to join him.
"These giants likely seek the same castle we saw. Or it is theirs we saw and they traveled here and perhaps the castle is hidden somewhere. This might be your chance for some of that wagering you were interested in. Any thoughts or ideas? "
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Jaylen dismounts from Trayan. "Wagering?" She looks intrigued more than confused. She looks at the giants and brushes the front of her traveling robe. "Gambling with giants. That sounds interesting." She absently hands Beedo the horse's reigns and begins walking toward the giants.
Beedo looks back and forth between Jaylen and the reigns passed to him before deciding blow silent raspberries at the clerics back. "First the box and now this." His chief complaint among the slew others. Most of which were under breathe, though the rest even Vark can hear, eliciting an eye roll from the more reserved goblin. Tempted as he was to just drop the reigns, Beedo guides Trayan alongside Golem and Vark until the latter decides to stop a good twenty feet or so away from the rest of the group.
D.O.R.K looks to Jaylen at the comment. And while she possessed no means outside of her changing eye tones to convey emotion, none of which came close to the "feeling" felt at time, one could swear there was some regret over her most recent suggestion coming from her. Yet, she kept her own council, turned to focus on the giant, and stayed at the ready to defend Devin within a split second.
