The triton monk impales the unfortunate Flare on her trident for 8 damage, KO'ing him, and concludes with a swift kick to the face of Aegean for 4 damage.
Aegean, blood freely flowing from his broken nose, retaliates.
"Nighty night!" Aegean calls out to the opposing team as he casts Sleep at a point just over 20 feet beyond himself, so all of the other team will be in range of it, but it won't hit himself or his conscious teammates. (Affects 20 total hitpoints)
OOC: Yo, nice. Sleep is actually pretty ridiculously strong, and Killroy can use sneak attack if he can get close with an ally next to the target or with an advantage attack (as would happen if the target is prone on the floor, asleep - actually I just read a melee attack against a sleeping target auto crits, so that's nice). Just to recap, who on our team is still standing? Killroy hasn't taken any hits, and Aegean is clearly still in the match. Flare just fell, Sarras is down. Their wizard is down (Thank goodness, that would have been a serious problem), monk wounded (multi attacks at level one + a higher than normal AC, so probably our next focus if we can't get at the cleric), fighter bruised, and cleric untouched (with at least one spell used)? Let's hope we can turn this in the next action. Does Aegean have any spells remaining? Or are you down to cantrips? And where do our team's unconscious stand with death saves?
The fighter and monk drop like stones, enveloped in a blanket of sleep. The orc cleric looks up, surprised. He is the only one who remains standing on the opposing team, about twenty feet across the room from you.
Even so, that spell fairly set the playing field in our favor, assuming we can put the pain on the cleric, who is, I assume, either running, or about to pop off his last spell. Assuming he doesn't throw me down (9/9 hp currently), I should be able to take him with my rapier, especially if you are still standing relatively close, which unless he runs, will probably be the case (him going in for a melee attack, methinks.)
Woohoo! And if I read the preceding two pages correctly, Aegean is standing right in front of the Cleric! That should be 13 damage going through, unless the cleric has buffed his armor into the stratosphere for a level 1 encounter.
Or wait - 20 ft across the room by DM's previous post. That order is still a little confusing: Aegean was struck in the face by the monk, so that is where the primary battle line is. By crossing ten feet, it seems like the cleric would enter the space previously held by the monk and fighter on their team, putting him in front of Aegean and vulnerable to sneak damage, but I'm not sure. DM's call on this one, I think.
You are correct, Jabthar. The cleric is adjacent to Aegean and vulnerable to sneak attack damage.
With the fall of the cleric comes the fall of the team, and in an instant the bodies have vanished, to be replaced with glowing red skulls imprinted into the floor.
Well done!
I will post XP rewards in a few hours. A little busy right now.
"Aegean." Killroy mutters, wiping his blade on the lower hem of his shirt and stowing it, "Give me a hand with these." Kneeling next to one of the skulls as he recovers his daggers, he fingers it for a moment, admiring it, before turning to the prone form of Flare and beginning to bind his wounds, applying his limited experience of healing as gained while recovering from street fights and making him more comfortable if possible.
OOC: Who is Shakar? I thought Aegean was still with us.
Seeing another pair of hands take over the immediate concerns of keeping his teammates from bleeding out on the floor, Killroy raises his eyes and begins to take stock of the immediate environment, crouching by the door through which the now defeated team entered. He turns his head over his shoulder and whispers to Aegean behind him.
"Not to discourage feats of courage and impressive martial prowess," quoth the elf, "but may I recommend that we attempt some simulacrum of stealth before continuing onward?"
(Figured it’s effectively the same as Killing them, literally “knocked out” i.e. KOed. I’d have probably done a diffeeent spell if I’d known sleeping them would lose us several hundred xp...)
Aegean nods and whispers back, “Seems like a good idea. We’re down half our team, not good if we run into one of the other 2 teams and they have more left.”
(fixed my name in the other post. Danger of doing multiple campaigns :p)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Perhaps the modification on sleep would be that we still have to go back afterwards and slit their throats? After all, sleep is a temporary effect, and they stand every chance of getting back up again should the time run out (60 seconds/10 rounds of combat). That way the effectiveness of the spell is preserved, but it doesn't immediately reward xp in the same way hitting a group with fireball would.
Feeling renewed battle ardor flood his veins for a moment, Killroy blinks in surprise, and then grasps his rapier, hoisting it aloft as a salute to unseen crowds. After a statuesque moment, he drops back down to a crouch. Darting forward, he attempts to use whatever shadows he can find to hide his movement through the door and into the room beyond.

(I’m down to cantrips now. Was hoping to roll high enough to put all 3 to sleep)

The orc cleric casts Spare the Dying on his wizard companion, stabilizing him, and then charges towards Aegean, expending 10 feet of movement.
Killroy, you are up!

For clarification, Is the Cleric now standing next to Aegean? If so, I get to proc sneak attack damage, if not, then ignore that part of the roll.
Rushing forward and drawing his rapier, Killroy lances forward blade first towards the Orc cleric.

(XP is awarded only for damage. Perhaps I will modify this rule for the second annual games.)
