I understand that. But Skameros's bugbear originates from the Underdark (backstory). As far as I know, he has never been to the surface or interacted with surface races (at least enough to learn their language.) Also keep in mind Skameros has a -1 INT modifier, so if he learned the common language, he would have spent quite a bit of time with a race that spoke it.
I would be very interested in learning Skameros's history, and how he learned such an 'uncommon' language in the underdark.
I think that's just a default option - every character gets Common - I didn't pick it
and my Outlander background gave me an additional language
if Skameros didn't speak and understand common - then how has he conversed with the rest of the party for this long? I understand the idea of character background and stories etc - but if he can't talk to the rest of the party - that just makes it harder for everyone to play
Well, keep in mind that when you say Skameros only has 8 Intelligence, that is also true for Beegred and Narstin. It is either Rodolfo (who makes up for everyone else) or nothing.
Skameros got a 19 of his History check for Blingdenstone, and 15 for other cities. So he would know that the party is headed to Bling because it is in close contact with Gauntlgrym (if I remember right), which is the most likely exit to the surface.
I've been role-playing that Beegred is getting the names and details of the cities messed up. That's why I didn't want him to enter this discussion, even though it may be useful in getting to the party's destination.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Beegred Thornpost - Lvl 8 Halfling Ranger - Out of the Abyss by Kerrec Drusk - Lvl 8 Half-Orc Life Cleric - The Long Road: Dragon Heist by Mingofaust (player & current DM) Hunferho Aelorothi - Lvl 5 Half-Elf Bard/Rogue - Baldur's Gate: Descent Into Avernus (by Pokepaladdy) DM - Frontier City of Nunkreet (ended)
Eldeth was navigating with Jimjar's help. Who navigates now?
(FYI: Eldeth and Jimjar were navigating. Skameros and Rodolfo were watching for dangers, with Beegred's passive kicking in. Beegred and Narstin were foraging for food and water)
Was it survival for navigating? Narstin's got a +6 there, so I think he'd become the new guide if that's the case. And I can be spared from foraging for water since i can create it as needed.

I'll get serious and move this encounter along tomorrow. Weekend is tough to get more than 5 minutes at a time.
ArgentTheWise, you're doing great there :)
Going to have to wait until later tonight. I just spent all night at the hospital.
(We're all fine.)
(I'm still alive, I promise! Wife was out of town from thursday night until this morning so kids kept me busy)
Nothing left to say? You let Eldeth go and move on?
If she wants to go - she's free to go

Oh, we had a choice? It seemed like the DM said that some NPC left for a better life with some other NPCs.
You can always persuade her to stay...
Moving on.

We are so going to wander through the underdark endlessly now hehe
