BTW: What did Tozer do with his shortsword when he picked up his Maul?
Excellent question. I assumed because it was a sword that had been dropped (and, therefore, Tozer had no sheathe for it) that Tozer merely dropped it on the floor.
Nekraen, aka: Xilyra is dropping out of the campaign. (S)he says finals are too time consuming to keep paying attention to the campaign.
At this point, we're down to 3 players. My worry is everyone is going to jump ship thinking this is not salvageable. I'm tempted to just restart, but I've already though of how to introduce a new group once the escape is complete. Of course, whether the rest of you stay or go will decide for me either way.
I’ll stick around as long you keep running it. If you decide to restart, I’m happy to rejoin as well. Probably with the same basic character, though I’d evaluate that if we get to that point.
If anyone wants to play more NPC's, just volunteer. Available are Eldeth, Ront and Buppido.
FYI: so I don't get blamed for changing the rules... The stairs are wide enough for 2 abreast. The top looks like 1 square only, but I rule 2 small/medium creatures can fit side by side.
Derendil steps forward onto the stairs next to tozer, Ready to attack anyone who comes near.
(M8? Not sure how the squares work out on the stairs since you said 2 could fit side by side. And feels like as a quaggoth he'd be more likely to attack something that came close instead of trying to dodge like Tozer)
Attack: 13 Damage: 5
(Can you ready the multi-attack, or just get one? If he gets any at all and can do both, here's the second)
Attack: 16 Damage: 5
I believe you are thinking of a Reaction. When you ready an action, you are holding your whole action. Derendil gets 2 attacks per action. So he gets to attack twice even when holding his action.

That was what I thought since it was a Multi-attack action that he was readying, just wasn't 100% sure.
Any doubts about holding ground at the top of the stairs? Shuushar's advice seems ominous. So, too, does two quaggoth and a drow. The quaggoth is a medium-sized creature; therefore, two can stand side by side on the bridge. Say what you want about dwarven valor, but I don't think Narstin and Tozer (who are the frontline currently) will survive a melee encounter.
I was hoping that the others would start pushing enemies over the edge, to make the spiders work for us. That is why Beegred was passing down the Drow hand crossbows. If we can get the quaggoths poisoned, it would make it easier to push them off the side. But with Ront running away from combat to get his axe, that isn't an option anymore.
I was wondering if we could fit everyone in the tower. My concern is that people are going to clog the entrance, then multiple people will be stuck on the bridge, and failed DEX rolls will cause people to plummet... If I thought that people were retreating, Beegred would not have run across the bridge as his Round 6 action (but that is water under the rickety bridge now).
I'm willing to retreat to the guard tower, especially since it will take 10 minutes for Beegred to put on his (original character build) equipment. I think it will require at least 2 things to happen: (1) Ront goes back to the platform and is the last one to retreat (so the others go first, and he holds back the enemy), and (2) Jimjar uses his Action to pull people further into the tower (extra square of movement), so they don't clog the entrance.

Just so we're clear BEFORE you try: The bridge is difficult terrain for non-drow, so double movement cost. If you also try to pull/carry someone, that doubles the already double movement cost... and if you're both on the bridge, you have to make the Dex saving throw.

Everyone to the guard tower as Shuushar suggests?
Narstin isn't frontline, he's second row. Derendil is the other frontliner. Don't think the tower is really a solution. It's too small to fit everyone and there's nowhere else to go from there since the other bridge is already cut. I think that's more shuushar suggesting VALTHANA goes there to where it's safer, not that everyeone should do the same.
My plan is to have derendil try to shove people over the edge, he's just waiting for them to get close.
I'd love to get Jimjar over there as well. His 32 hit points seem glorious compared to Tozer's measly 15.
Eldeth retreated--I'm sorry for that--but I doubt she'll be a tragic loss to our battle strength at the top of the stairs.
Good points about clogging things up and, in general, the difficulty associated with everyone crossing the bridge. Tozer will stand his ground then.
There should be at least 1 short sword, if not 2, if Jimjar wants to head over.
If Eldeth is willing to run up to the storeroom, that will free up some space. I'm thinking Sarith will head back down to start crossbow-sniping from the safety of the guard tower. (Keep bolting the Quaggoths until they fail a poison save.)
A retreat can probably fit everyone, as long as a bunch of people go up to the store room. There are also ropes, so if the 2nd bridge is cut down, the group can still use the ropes to ease down to the stream and maybe escape to the NW of the map... I still think (long-term) we are better off not retreating to the tower, but the odds of us holding that platform (short-term) are pretty harsh.
(Edit: I forgot that we are down to 3 players, for the moment. Since Ferriman is cannon-fodder, we need to get him out of the storeroom and onto that platform! And Valthana needs to get to that front row!)

Forgot about the ropes in the armory, those could definitely be useful for climbing down. Sure beats just jumping. @Kerrec How big is the armory? Could we fit everyone in the tower between the armory and the guard room?
If everyone fits, worst case we pile in there, cut the second bridge, then tie off the ropes to climb down, though probably under fire from poisoned bolts the whole time. If we can manage to shove the quaggoth off the steps we might be fine on that side.

Ok, thanks.
Playing for Nakraen (Xilyra + NPC). Hasn't been on DnDBeyond in 3 days. Hope all is well and (s)he'll be back soon.

Tozer moves but has an action remaining. Ready an attack?
Opted for a dodge, in case anything comes charging through the darkness and up the stairs.

Jimjar's turn to act.
Volunteering. Considering Tozer's aversion for orc kind, I will pass over Ront. How about Eldeth?
OMG, did I really give you Ront? Lol.I'll fix your companion sheet asap with Eldeth. LOLEdit: Tired. The thought I gave you Ront as an NPC was too funny to not want to believe it. Anyway, your character sheet has Eldeth's details now.
