Beegred is potentially in a bad situation, with a couple statues about to have their turns and all of you retreating. Shall I continue the combat until it is resolved, or should we retcon this outing?

While I would appreciate a retcon, I’m also fine to play it out.
Halfling Nimbleness means he can break through being surrounded, as long as the hits don’t render him unconscious.

Beegred Thornpost - Lvl 8 Halfling Ranger - Out of the Abyss by Kerrec Drusk - Lvl 8 Half-Orc Life Cleric - The Long Road: Dragon Heist by Mingofaust (player & current DM) Hunferho Aelorothi - Lvl 5 Half-Elf Bard/Rogue - Baldur's Gate: Descent Into Avernus (by Pokepaladdy) DM - Frontier City of Nunkreet (ended)
Yeah I was under the assumption that Beegred would be able to disengage and retreat with some fancy class skills - however if that is not the case then Skameros can attempt a rescue :)
By 7th level, your instincts are so honed that you have advantage on initiative rolls.
Additionally, if you are surprised at the beginning of combat and aren’t incapacitated, you can act normally on your first turn, but only if you enter your rage before doing anything else on that turn
Went with additional options for Rodolfo - See Invisibility and Banishment. At least Banishment will be useful regardless of what we face later on.
I don't want to be an arse with your one chance at Banishment, so the rules for this encounter is when you cast it, you must be looking at a singular target, ie: The cloud swirling around while not possessing any elementals, OR one possessed creature containing all of Ogremoch's Bane.
And it won't be as easy as kill 5 statues then banish the 6th. In this boss fight, it will continuously animate 6 statues (or more if you damage non-animated statues) until there are none left to possess.
(I also reserve the right to increase the number of animated statues at any given time if the fight is going too well for your party)
Finished getting to level 7. The +5 HP for Thurnir's Aid has been added.
I forgot that I can cast Pass Without Trace. The next time the party wants to be sneaky, remind me.
I still think it would work if we had a Large-sized waterproof bag (held by Thurnir, Rodolfo, Orubis), Beegred casts Gust of Wind, and Skameros waves around the halfling like a leaf-blower. But I guess Banishment works too.

I considered a "last X rounds" type of battle, but I'm worried that with PBP that will take weeks of posts. I'm thinking Ogremoch's Bane will become aware of the elementals and your party will have to entice it into staying to finish your battle, instead of going off to fight elsewhere. You will have to balance being too careful, and being too reckless.
What will be the marching order into the cavern? Assume you can go in 2 side by side.
Keep in mind, this is a BOSS fight. Apparently Ogremoch's Bane has learnt from all of the previous encounters, has prepared for the next one and will fight more intelligently. The statues still have the same AC, same HP and same melee attacks. But they will focus fire and have one new option in their repertoire.
Took initiative and went with it, to get things rolling. If any of you absolutely insist, we can change the marching order. Otherwise, see main thread.
Sounds good to me!

Checking in. 3 of you still need to level up.
Done - nothing too exciting for Skameros

I’m done. Level 7 not too exciting for paladins either, but should make the adventuring day a bit longer..

I was going to ask how banishment would work since they animate multiple figures at once
thanks for clarifying it

So is it going to be "last X rounds"? It wouldn't make sense to blow everything up right off the bat then..

We’re going to need to fight smarter!

I would suspect it would go Beegred and Skameros followed by the rest of the squishies

Thurnir will go in 3rd when single file.
So, Beegred and Skameros in the front. Thurnir and Orubis in the middle. Rodolfo in the back?
