Once again, three glowing missiles launch from Rodolfo's hands and twirl around, weaving past the front line and smashing into the Shambling Mound. The form of the Shambling Mound falls into a clump and then reforms with difficulty.
Beset by a formidable force and surrounded, the Shambling Mound chooses a smaller and supposedly easier target to engulf. It makes two slam attacks at Jimjar.
Slam Attack: 25 Damage: 14
Slam Attack: 8 Damage: 13
The first attack slams Jimjar so hard it throws him aside and the Shambling Mound expecting more resistance, slams a second time where it thought Jimjar would still be and misses. (Damage already applied on sheet.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Beegred moves one spot over to Q16. Still in melee range, but as far from Jimjar as possible, to try to distract the Mound.
Begreed swings with the short sword and the scimitar, and is audibly thankful for the Bless-ing and Hunter's Mark.
Normal action Attack: bless 3 plus 7 Damage: 8
Bonus action Attack: bless 1 plus 15 Damage: 8

Beegred Thornpost - Lvl 8 Halfling Ranger - Out of the Abyss by Kerrec Drusk - Lvl 8 Half-Orc Life Cleric - The Long Road: Dragon Heist by Mingofaust (player & current DM) Hunferho Aelorothi - Lvl 5 Half-Elf Bard/Rogue - Baldur's Gate: Descent Into Avernus (by Pokepaladdy) DM - Frontier City of Nunkreet (ended)
Seeing the Shambling Mound falter after Rodolfo's magic missiles, Beegred sees an opening and jams both blades deep into the core of the creature, then slices each in a different direction, eviscerating it. The mound tries to move in three directions at once, spreading its detritus around as the life force that sustained it fails. What was once a ravenous living coalesced pile of detritus is now simply a pile of detritus.
(A Shambling Mound is worth 1800xp. Everyone but Eldeth participated in the battle. 1800/6 = 300xp each. You know that a Shambling Mound is only interested in devouring organic material, so there is no 'loot' to find.)
"How's everyone doing?" Narstin asks as the mound falls. "I can do some healing if needed, though it may be worth considering if we want to save it to fight the Grik, or to go ahead and use some ahead of time."
Rodolfo is emboldened by having all of his attacks hit, "I'd say we help this society and ecosystem as much as we can. Lets go clear out the other thing as well."
Rodolfo and the myconid hunter join their knowledge and deduce where the Grick Alpha would have gone from the sighting upon its entry. Deducing that the Grick Alpha prefers rocky surfaces to use its camouflage to the best advantage, the myconid hunter suggests a particlar 'rock' that is cliff-like and less fungus covered. From there, Beegred uses his tracking skills to locate signs of a Grick Alpha's passage.
After some time slogging through the undergrowth of the fungi forest, the myconid informs all of you that you are approaching the landmark in question.
Beegred equips his shield, and has a short sword drawn. After the group organizes, he will move towards M15 at normal speed. He is using his Action to look around, in case the Grick is somewhere nearby, but not where expected.
"I'll go first. Don't worry, I have a plan."
If charging straight in to get the Grick to come out is a plan, then he has a plan.

Beegred, Rodolfo, Narstin and Jimjar go before the Grick Alpha. Only Beegred and Rodolfo know where it is at the beginning. Party and creature are aware of each other, no surprise.
(BTW, it's on the cliff face, about 15 feet up. Out of reach for a medium creature without a reach weapon.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(15' up, huh... Looks like it is just inside spell and short bow range.)
Beegred has to drop his sword and shield onto the ground, and draw his bow. (If the party wins the combat, he will have to recover those afterwards.)
Bonus action: Cast Hunter's Mark on the Grick Alpha.
Action: short bow Attack: 18 Damage: 8
Dread Ambusher ability - Attack: 22 Damage: 16
(Hopefully Beegred hits with an arrow, which will make it easier for the others to tell where the Grick Alpha is.)
(EDIT: Will use DM inspiration to re-roll the 1st arrow attack -- 9 )
(EDIT2: Getting DM Inspiration requires Beegred to basically do a frontal assault. So I should probably have him move to P17, even though it would be smarter to stay back.)

Not necessary. Your 'approach' was to be in the front and make noise to draw it out instead of stealthing. That's good enough for your inspiration.
Beegred fires twice at the large grick, landing solid blows that unfortunately don't appear to be as damaging as expected. However, Rodolfo's tried and true magic missile slam into the beast, almost knocking it off the cliff wall.
(Those two attacks still hurt it badly already...Narstin and Jimjar next.)

Rodolfo gets to act first in Round 4.
Rodolfo continues with what works, level 1 magic missiles: 12

Rodolfo will make even more of a show of where the monster is by opening with three magic missiles for 9. He will stay put.
