Therien studies the door within the mosaic for a moment before drawing it to the others' attention. "Gruun...Hox...look at this. Remarkable."
Standing a full 30' away from the door--and asking the others to locate themselves even farther away--the elf uses Mage Hand to turn the knob and open this newly-found door in the mosaic.
"A door concealed within a mosaic that inexplicably appeared after we re-entered this room through a secret door in a sarcophagus," muses Therien. "Rather convinces one that this corridor is the one to follow."
Intrigued more and more by the strangeness of this place, the elf begins to walk down the corridor. (Investigation: 7)
The corridor twists and bends for hundreds of feet, still dimly lit by glowing fungus along the wall. At one point it looks as if this hall is another caved in tunnel, but just before the rubble, the path forks to the left, then winds for another hundred feet.
As you turn to the right, you reach a curious scene. A toppled statue lies across the corridor. Just past the fallen statue are four extremely realistic statues depicting a battle between three drow in chain shirts, and a tabaxi with a dagger and a flute. At first glance at this distance you might think you have met someone else in this buried cavern, but the figures are way too still.
Hox examines the fallen statue, which looks like a depiction of a humanoid creature, but the face has been smashed beyond recognition.
Therien and Gruun peer at the statues standing further down the hall. Unlike the fallen statue, these look so realistic it's as if the creatures were turned to stone, but the figures and their possessions are filled with color, almost alive.
"Riddles on top of riddles in this place, Bartle,"remarks Therien. "Now what? I fear there's some witchcraft up ahead."
The elf then explains to the others that he would like to make himself invisible, walk down the corridor alone, and inspect the realistic statues. "Any objections?"
Therien utters the words and makes the hand motions that he's studied for hours; he touches Gruun upon the shoulder, and the bugbear is now under the effects of an Invisibility spell.
Stepping over the fallen statue, Gruun moves so quietly down the corridor that it seems like Therien sent him to a different plane of existence. As he gets closer in the dim light, he sees that the figures are displayed mid-combat. The tabaxi stands opposite the three drow, fur ruffled, holding a dagger as if to make a last stand. One of the drow is in the midst of a lunge with his shortsword; the others are aiming the hand crossbows that their race is well known for using. The drow look crazed, almost feral.
Seconds after Gruun arrives, the scene erupts into motion. Suddenly these realistic "statues" are very real creatures, resuming their combat. "--him down! We will make a puppet out of you!" a drow shouts.
Tracking: Gruun is invisible, 10 feet away from the drow and 20 feet away from the tabaxi. Hox and Therien are 80 feet away from the drow and 90 feet away from the tabaxi.
The tabaxi looks around for a second, SUPER surprised of the sudden appearance of the new people and not knowing what to make of a bugbear and a kobold and .. a wizard? joining the fight. He drops his dagger, puts his hands up, backs to the wall and casts Invisibility on himself.
OOC: It's great to be back, thanks!

Therien's mage hand opens the door easily, revealing another 10-foot wide corridor that immediately turns to the right.

Therien studies the unusual scene before him. He then looks inquisitively at Gruun and Hox, wondering what their thoughts might be.
Hox tilts his head, "People?...Look real...More real than fallen stone." Hox will check out the fallen statue.

Gruun stares at the statues. "Who would carve statues and leave them in a tunnel?"
"Possibly they weren't always statues," ponders Therien aloud. The elf wonders if they are seeing once living creatures who have been petrified.

"How will you let us know if you're in trouble?"
"I suppose I would call out for help. But..." Therien rethinks his idea. "What about you, Gruun? I can make you invisible instead."
"I've never been a good tracker but I can move quietly when needed. You will hear if I find any trouble. I will go and search."
"Hox and I will be at the ready then, Gruun."
Therien utters the words and makes the hand motions that he's studied for hours; he touches Gruun upon the shoulder, and the bugbear is now under the effects of an Invisibility spell.
After waving his hand infront of his own face briefly, Gruun moves quietly down the hallway closer to the statues searching high and low as he does.
