Gerrick shrugs, "Its a straight shot ahead, there's a cavern up there, a natural fissure that opened up sometime and swallowed a part of this tunnel. We could go around to approach from the other side, but that'l take a while, maybe a couple of hours. There aren't many passages that connect to this one, this used to be an old dwarven highway rather than part of anyone's sewers, we'd have to backtrack a heck of a lot."
Silas responds to Velon, "I'll join you if you engage yes. I'd rather not give this one too much time to report my presence before we're finished here."
Cratol looks down the passage. "I think Poljen is correct let's get in there and take them on. We have to take out the spider but the simple direct approach is my say.";
Mari relays to the others her idea via their link. " I do not trust this guy. We can tell him that i will stay close to him in order to keep him safe. If he decides to abandon us then i will end him. "
Lia looks at the others with determination. " We need to gather close if we attack here. Sune will grant protection to all of you. "
Velon answers Mari over the link "perfect, Silas doesn't want our guide reporting his presence back to the Xanathar just yet either, if he has means of doing so." "Thanks Mari."
Aloud Velon says, "I have a feeling this is not going to be easy." "I'm going to summon help." Velon then turns around facing away from the guide towards the empty space in the tunnel they have just come from and feigns 'summoning' Silas by pulling out the large sapphire the blue dragon just recently gave them and pretending to cast a spell with it. He takes Silas's rat form into his other hand at the same time and holds him out a bit near the sapphire so he can transform. He hopes the guide thus does not realize Silas has been there the whole time.
"Ok, shall we be ready for when it patrols back this way again?" To Silas he says aloud "greetings friend, we had need of your aid on this one." "Any words of wisdom before we strike?"
Poljen nods as everyone makes ready, and begins to move forward with those who can be stealthy on occasion. Once they are in position (or spotted by the thing), he moves to attack.
OOC: Bonus to Rage, two attacks and movement to reach it as needed. If he can not reach it with basic movement, he will hold his attacks until it hopefully moves into melee with him.
Lawrance readies his own attack, going with the basics until the true nature of this construct is discovered. Hanging near the back, he launches his Fire Bolt and it slips between pillars and people to try and strike the construct once it's within sight.

Mari moves languidly close by their guide. " I will stay close by you. We can ill afford to lose you here. " She smiles at him as ahe has both blades drawn casually.
Lia decides to hold off for now on invoking Sune directly. She instead nocks an arrow and awaits the arrival of the strange entity.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Velon gets ready and awaits the return of the patrolling construct. As the group attacks he tries to move around the machine and corner it opposite Poljen, Cratol, Silas and the rest so they destroy it with it fleeing.
Initiative: 5
Readied Attack action:
Warhammer Attack 1 w/GWM: 15 . (Advantage if we are flanking: 24 ) , Damage: 24 bludgeoning, 5 fire
Warhammer Attack 2 w/GWM: 14 (Advantage if we are flanking: 21 ) , Damage: 26 bludgeoning, 2 fire
Silas responds to Velon, "I have not fought one of these, although I've heard tales from others who have. The main thing as I understand it is to limit its mobility and keep up the pressure. Aside from what Lawrance mentioned, it can climb on almost anything, moves very fast, and rapidly regenerates. If we let it, it could pick us off slowly, dashing in to cause us harm and dashing off to recover, potentially with one of us dragged along for the ride."
He jumps out of Velon's pack, rapidly growing into his human form.
Gerrick squeaks out and flinches away, "Who the hells are you!" "Not someone you want to cross, and that's all you need to know little rat."
He casts a spell, which washes over the whole group. "That should protect you from flames. It won't help against other elements, but I can't shield you from all of them unfortunately."
The group presses forward, stopping to wait for the construct as it patrols. There are no good places to hide in the tunnel, but people make do. Soon enough the distant ticking of metal on stone is heard as the spiderlike construct makes its approach. Suddenly it stops, makes a ticking noise, and then a lance of white light streaks out and strikes Lia, sapping heat from her body.
Silas starts charging forward as it becomes clear the ambush has failed, he waves his hand, and a shimmering wall of force appears behind the retriever, cutting it off from the direction it came. Lia's arrow skips off of the thing's armored body. Lawrance's fire bolt on the other hand slams home.
The retriever is currently clinging to the ceiling of the tunnel, approximately 100 feet away from the group as combat opens. It is too far off of the ground for the melee fighters to engage at present. I suggest finding a way to change that, I'll save the already rolled melee attacks for when that changes. In the meantime those unable to do what they'd intended are free to take other actions. Everyone has resistance to fire for the time being. Lia is hit for 26 cold damage, DC 18 dex save to reduce that by half
Velon listens to Silas's advice and then sees Lia get with the cold beam. He charges down the hallway to try to take the construct out as quickly as they can.
Seeing the disadvantage that the creature's altitude has put his more direct friends at, Lawrance casts his own Wall of Force letting it float on the ceiling at waist height of the creature and shaping it to force the construct to fall down to the floor.
OOC - Wall of force panels will be 2 x 5 so that the middle 20' of the top of the cavern will be blocked off at 25' high for 50' , 5' from Sila's Wall. If it has to be against one side or the other because of the position of the construct, so be it. Falling damage at the whim of the DM. :)

Lia loses her breath for a moment as the beam is shockingly cold to her system. Gasping she recovers and holds high her amulet. With determination etched on her face she sends out waves of radiant energy to aid her allies and herself. All of her allies feel at peace now as they engage. She then walks down the passage towards the creature that harmed her.
Mari glances down the hall but keeps her eyes on their feral guide. Her blades will lash out if he attempts to escape.
OOC: Lia casts Beacon of Hope on all of her companions. She had a high initiative and should have gotten it off on everyone unless they beat a 21 on initiative and ran ahead. Advantage on wisdom saves and max healing on all spells. Mari readies attack versus the guide in the event that he flees.
Lia casts her spell and it washes over the group. Lawrance causes a wall of force to appear in between the construct and the ceiling. It scrabbles for new purchase for a moment before falling to the ground, with Poljen, Velon, Silas, and Cratol all charging towards it.
Silas pauses just long enough to fling a trio of fiery rays at the retriever, they all slam home. The retriever for its part flips back upright and moves forward, a beam lances out and strikes Poljen, causing his limbs to start stiffening up. It bites Cratol, trying to snatch him up in its jaws.
Poljen needs to make a DC 18 Con save or become petrified, if this save is failed, he may repeat the save at the end of his next turn. A second failure means the condition is permanent. Cratol takes 24 damage and needs to make an athletics or acrobatics check vs the retriever's athletics check (I rolled a 25) or be grappled by the thing.
Sustaining the barrier to prevent it from getting out of reach of his companions, Lawrance empties the Wand of Magic Missiles at the thing, going for the sure damage until he sees more of it's abilities. He then slings the wand and studies the scene intently in all the spectrums he has access to.

Mari continues watching their guide for any sign of him fleeing.
Seeing her companions injured, Lia grits her teeth. She walks quickly towards her companions . Touching her amulet there is a bright lighr and her companions feel a sudden warmth.
Aid cast at level 3. Poljen, Velon and Cratol each receive 10 more hitpoints. Their max hitpoints increase by 10 as well. They last 8 hours. Lia receives 5 hitpoints due to blessed healer bonus. She moved up another 35 feet and should be in range for this spell.
Velon and Poljen start whacking on the construct as Lia heals the others and Lawrance releases a seemingly endless stream of force bolts at the thing. Silas pulls out his own greatsword and joins the fray as well, striking hard at one of the limbs holding Cratol.
Another beam lashes out, at Velon, scorching him with lightning. and then the retriever fades out of sight, reappearing on the far side of Silas' force wall, with Cratol still in its jaws. It starts scuttling down the passage away from the group.
Silas curses in draconic, "The damn thing can teleport! I can stop it from doing that again , but we'll need another barrier."
Velon, dex save for half of 31 lightning damage
