"No." She admits gravely, "None of them have returned. We are most concerned. I have heard of you before. Congratulations on your promotion. May you always be armed, vigilant, and ready to smite evil."
OOC: Is Ushien saying that the warriors she sent out to search for the delegation went missing as well? Did Carrhae see anyone at either gravesite that looks like they're from the Knights of Samular?
Also, Carrhae will ask how many warriors were sent out to search for the delegation.
When Strife observes Daewen making sketches and taking the mask, she approaches the Shadar-kai. "Hi, I just wanted to mention a couple things. First, taking notes is a brilliant idea. I do that a lot, but it's always been in a library setting, not when I'm creeped out standing in a place of slaughter. I'm a lover, not a fighter, or at least I am when I have a choice. But next time, I will try to help you!
"The other thing is that I know of a spell that will allow you and I to have a conversation without any need to write your half of it. I still have a ways to go before I am sufficiently well versed to enable using this new approach, but I like talking to you in general, and I definitely want to have that option should an emergency arise. May the Raven Queen guide our fates to her purpose, and may that purpose be to surround me with skilled warriors such as yourself!" Strife gives Daewen a friendly wink and heads back to the carriage.
Later, at Summit Hall:
"Yes, Carrhae, congratulations! Learning you have been promoted gives me increased faith in their judgment. But don't worry, Ushien, this paladin is all of those things. She demonstrated especially keen vigilance just on our trip over here!"
As they travelled on to Summit Hall, Mercy couldn't help but feel that, as honest as Zephyr had seemed, the cleric had held something back. What that could be, she didn't know, but her trust had yet to be earned. Still, the same could be said about the rest of their motley crew. As upfront as everyone seemed, experience had taught Mercy that everyone had secrets. And sometimes, those secrets could end up hurting innocent people, as her mother's secret had hurt her.
Carrhae: She sent soldiers up to search the area, but they never returned. About 5 of them. Naturally, she was expecting the delegation to show up, and grew concerned when they did not, and sent out her own search party.
Unfortunately, not too many people around the Summit know much else, and you're afraid this has led to another dead end. Daewen, perhaps Ushien would know something about the mask you took?
Daewen rummages in her pack and pulls out the parchment and the mask, and scribbles a note on the parchment staying "Does this symbol mean anything to you, Ushien? It was on one of the bodies of the victims of the attack we came across. Plus, I found this mask - is it a clue that might help us determine who led the attack?" She'll then pull out the monk's mask, and show both the mask and the parchment to Ushien.
"Ah!" Ushien says, surprised. "What is this, little one?" She looks over the mask with great curiosity. "I know this mask." She finally says, handing it back to you. "These masks are worn by the monks of the Sacred Stone order. They are a group that belongs to the Cult of Earth. I don't know much about them, but I do know they have taken over one of the old Haunted Keeps. They call it the Sacred Stone Monastery. Here. I will show you how to get there."
Carrhae gives a quick bow to Ushien. "Thank you for the assistance that you have provided to me and my comrades. I hope that your warriors turn up unharmed, as well as our missing delegates." Before we head off to Womford, is there an armory where Carrhae might be able to acquire a bow and some arrows?
Womford is a tiny settlement on the banks of the Dessarin River, south of the Ironford Bridge. A dilapidated dock juts out into the river, and three keelboats are tied there. A large mill sits on the riverbank, with several big granaries nearby and a handful of small, run-down cottages.
There are a number of..unsavory type looking people tending to the boats. They watch you as you approach, but then eventually go about their business.
As the party arrived in Womford, Carrhae switched out of her armor and back into the revealing red tunic that she wore in Red Larch. This approach seemed to at least get people in the mood for speaking to me. Let's hope that it gets people to talk here as well." Before she leaves, she gives Strife a tap on the shoulder. "Come on and give me a hand with this investigation. I'm sure that between your Harper investigation skills and my pulchritude, we're sure to find out whatever clues these people might have about the missing delegates. And also, you can help keep any grabby sailors at bay." Carrhae gives Strife a wink and a knowing smile when she said the word pulchritude before heading off to the docks.

"Good Morning! My friend and I are agents working with the Harpers on a mission to find some missing delegates from Mirabar and we've heard that some of you might know something about them, maybe you came across a few books that they might have lost a while back or something. We don't mean to bother you guys, but one of the delegates is someone that a friend of ours is really concerned about, so if you could give us any help at all, we would be so grateful. And as Carrhae punctuates that 'so grateful' by doing a little bend and letting everyone get a better look at her cleavage.

Seeing Carrhae and Strife wander off toward the docks, Mercy had a sinking feeling the two of them were about to walk into trouble. She turned toward Zephyr, Trini and Daewen. "You three need to stick together. This entire town is a slum, and, no offense to you two..." She indicated the two verbal members of the group. "...but you look like easy marks. Daewen, I'm trusting you to keep them out of trouble while I go try to clean up whatever mess that Paladin is about to cause. Silly thing doesn't understand the people she's dealing with here..." Shaking her head in dismay, she started after the two 'bimbos,' doing her best to appear like a thief stalking a mark rather than a worried friend.

When Strife heard herself referred to as a Harper once again, she felt a sharp pang of guilt. At the outset of the mission, Carrhae and the others were strangers, and she didn't think it would be wise to risk disrupting their progress by disclosing her true affiliation, when by simply staying quiet, she would enjoy their implicit trust in Harpers. Things were different now. This mission didn't feel much closer to a resolution than it had when they started, but the friendships she was forging were wonderful. She wanted to get the Zhentarim thing out in the open and minimize any hurt feelings. Doing so would build a solid bridge on her journey to sharing her deeper and darker secrets. "Carrhae, remind me later - there's something I need to share with you, okay?"
As the trail of clues they had been following had become increasingly littered with corpses, Strife held little hope they would find any of the delegates still alive. But so long as there was any chance, she felt compelled to put forth her very best effort just as if it were herself in need of rescue. When Carrhae asked Strife to accompany her, she had mixed emotions. Her base instinct was to instead go with Trini and Mercy, yet she knew she couldn't just brush off Carrhae and not feel horrible, so she felt the sting of disappointment to forfeit her first choice. However, she did like Carrhae very much. "Very well, my lovely Lady of Lascivious Lecherousness, let's do this!"
Upon reflection while the paladin changed into her cleavage-couture armor, she decided her Tiefling bias had actually been kinda racist, and though she was mad at herself for having that impulse, she was now happy she had not surrendered to it. And Carrhae had been so very sweet and understanding about the Sune stuff. A lingering sense of failure had followed Strife out of Beliard, and she wondered if maybe Carrhae had that same yearning for redemption in spite of the paladin's fine work at the ambush site.
When Carrhae emerged ready to set forth, Strife took a deep breath. Yes, the human cut a fine figure, but shapely bodies were to be found in any crowd. It was the striking beauty of Carrhae's visage that Strife regarded as what was truly remarkable about her appearance. But all together, Carrhae presented a picture that Strife had no doubt would force many unprofessional notions into the bard's consciousness as they worked together this day. She was relieved she felt no need to pretend otherwise - she had admitted all this when they first spoke of Sune back in that tavern, and Carrhae seemed to crave and welcome attention with the same relish as Strife. But why should Carrhae have all the fun?
"Wow, you look superb as ever, Carrhae. Allow me to present your accomplice, a devout admirer of yours who goes by the appellation 'Veracity'!" With a theatrical flourish and full circle spin, Strife invoked Disguise Self and her Glamoured Studded Leather to transform herself into a contrived alter ego.
When they had approached to within polite speaking distance, Strife was horrified as Carrhae attempted to be a bard. With a sudden burst of nervous laughter, she interrupted her friend, "Good morning to you! We apologize for interrupting your work. My name is Veracity. To get right to the heart of the matter, as my Lady Carrhae was just crudely outlining, we wish to discover the whereabouts of a certain delegation out of Mirabar. On the journey from Beliard to Summit Hall, they mysteriously vanished, and it's been far too many days not to be greatly worried.
"Now, we are very pleased to have found you lot, for we have learned that a quantity of books belonging to a member of the group passed through here. In fact, we are confident you saw and handled said books, and perhaps other items from the delegation. Though the circumstances might call into question whether your conduct has been entirely above reproach, please understand we seek only to recover the delegates and their property. What's done is done, and we are not here to quibble about entrepreneurs such as yourselves transacting business. When an opportunity for profitable commerce comes along, you don't squander good fortune, and we understand this.
"You can help us possibly save innocent lives, or if it has come to that, at least see the bodies rightfully returned to their worried families." Strife steps right in front of the well dressed individual, and gently rests her palm against his chest. "Please. Do the right thing. It will cost you nothing. And," she continued, her gaze drifting down as she tucks a lock of hair over her ear, "You would be the hero. I would like to share a drink, and possibly a great deal more, with a hero." Pausing to gaze back up into his eyes and wet her lips, she says quietly, "What happens in Womford, stays in Womford."

Reaching the docks, it took all of her willpower to hide her dismay as Mercy watched the failing attempts of the other two to coerce a band of riverboat pirates into playing hero. Focusing on the task at hand, she sized up the crew and nodded to herself. Strife had handily singled out the one in charge of these lowlifes, which would be a good thing...if the Tiefling had used a better approach. Mercy pressed herself into the shadows, not trying to hide so much as to look as though she were hiding.

Though she wasn't actually trying to remain unseen, years of practice made blending in with the darkness second nature. Rolling her eyes, Mercy waited. No sense blowing her cover, if she was already going all out on it. At any rate, the crooked bastard would believe the story she planned to tell him better if she played the master thief than the bumbling one. She just had to wait until the girls were gone before she approached. Plenty of time to concoct a good story.
(OOC: Thanks to the vanishing nat20, Mercy has advantage on her next deception roll against Mr. Fancy Pants on the docks.)

Daewen gives a surprised frown to Mercy, after she "left her in charge" of Zephyr and Trini! After Mercy walked away, Daewen literally broke out in crying laughter and slapped both Z and T on the backs jovially, whilst shaking her head.
She'll then attempt to hide in shadows and watch the "show" from a distance, reading herself in case the boatmen attacked any of her new friends (Stealth: 18).

Daewen decided, at that point, it was an appropriate time to update the Raven Queen on her progress. In a black, inky, shadowy teleport, she is gone.
You are transported to the mountains of Letherna in the Shadowfell, a dark, grey, shadowy copy of our Plane. The Raven Queen appears to you as a pale, beautiful, female human dressed in black flowing robes darker than anything this universe could create. She wears a magnificent crown and a thin veil covers her head, leaving her face exposed. You dare not look her in the eye, and you instinctively kneel. No words are necessary. You communicate mentally, and she is pleased with your report. For now. After an undetermined amount of time, you are back with the party on Toril.
Carrhae/Strife:"Oi!" One of the sailors says. "We don't know nuthin' about some books." You can tell they're not exactly telling the truth. One of the bigger sailors, a genasi, looks to what appears is his halfling right hand man, with a look of concern. "Harper agents, eh. Look." The genasi says, sighing. "Beat it. We don't know anything about..some delegation. Or books." There are about 5 sailors tending to the boats, along with the Genasi and the halfling.
