"No pitons but Gash, can you send Friend over to that waterfall to get a peek of what's on and around the other side? Maybe we could see what's supposed to come to this side, or it might help us figure out what to do on this side. Friend might also be able to look around underneath the pillar at the gears and teeth more? And I'm guessing no one else can fly can they?
Also, Gash, tell me more about this arcane attachment - er - magic sticky thing you could do. It seems like no matter what we try to do to attempt a crossing,, the only thing that happens is an automatic fall, and even if we get some way of inching along, that doesn't help Nev and Gentoa. But it's an option.
Can someone tell if this block or the bridge is magical? If we activate it by touching fire or water or gold or wind or love or something else after all this I'm going to feel pretty stupid."
OOC: There are the two potions of climbing we looted from the bandits/army camp, but first I'm not sure we positively identified them, and second, it gives you climbing speed equal to your walking speed for an hour and advantage on athletics (strength) checks for climbing. I'm not sure the two attempts to even walk out on the pillar (not climbing) which failed without even a roll would have been helped by the potion. But Dog doesn't know that. If he has positively identified the potion between the army camp and the race here (still no long rest since then, friends), then he will give them a try.
In-character, if we know the potion: "So I think I heard these potions help you climb, and we're running out of options. Why don't I try one and see if it helps me not fall to my doom." Dog drinks the potion and grabs and anchor line and the loop and slowly tries inching out onto the pillar, testing whether there's a difference.

Standing up and straightening his robes, Lucien says “Well, if the Traveller wants me to walk into the water, then that is what I’ll do. Traveller, thank you for your guidance.” Casting guidance on myself I will begin all across the bridge, no rope.

As Tock lowers himself into the water, Friend flies over the waterfall pool, swooping under the impossible bridge and between the split waterfall curtain.
Gash:
Adjacent to the giant gear is a small platform carved from granite. The platform is about 30 feet above the water. Perfectly carved steps lead up behind the waterfall. Below the platform is a steep rocky slope that ends at the water's edge. It can probably be climbed.
Dog:
DEX check: 4
Before Dog makes it more than four steps out onto the bridge, he loses his footing and finds himself swinging underneath, looking down at the water. He can see Friend disappearing behind the waterfall to the east and Tock scaling down into the water to the west. Above him are the carved gear teeth.
Then, Lucien falls right past Dog, making a spectacular dive into the pool below.

Lucien and Tock:
The water is cold but clear. It is quite deep in the middle and slopes steeply at each bank. There appear to be no fish or other wildlife in the water. It isn't below the water that is interesting, but above. When Lucien surfaces and when Tock pulls his head out of the water, they can see through the mist to the shore on the other side, where it looks easy to at least climb out of the water.
Tock swims through the waterfall mist with no trouble, pulling himself out of the frigid water on the other side. Tock:
From here, Tock can see a granite platform about 30 feet above him up a steep slope. The platform appears to be next to the giant gear that is underneath the bridge. The climb looks possible, but not exactly easy. There are obvious hand and foot holds.
Dog tries to climb back up to the bridge and the block using the two ropes, hoping they hold him. He looks very skeptically at the potion of climbing. (OOC: could Dog climb down to the water on the near side? If so, he'd like to do that, swim over to the other side with Tock, and climb up with him, assisting each other in the ascent and making use of the potion.)
Dog, emerges behind Lucien from the bracing water. It doesn't affect him as much as the cleric, it seems. They both look at Tock, looking for a way up the slope.
Tock Athletics(13) check: 19
The climb proves difficult and he tumbles down to the water, resulting in 2 damage.
"I think I can turn into something that can get across, but what do we want to do once I am across? Try an tie a rope to get others across or should I just carry them?"
Then Tock will once again tie a rope around himself and climb down to the water level and put his head under water to take a look around as well.
Gash sends Friend to help Tock look around.
“Do any of you have pitons? Maybe that could help us get across? Or maybe I could conjure something VERY sticky?!”

Gash points and Friend flies off.
“Well I could maybe conjure a box of pitons or a jar of honey or something. Never tried it. Actually, if you allow me a moment.”
Gash thumbs through his book and begins to ritually cast detect magic

Looking over the edge from the top..."can they swim?"
Tock shouts upwards, "Might be my last words, but I'm going to swim over there and see what can be done!"
And he does that.. :)

Well, Tock will take a quick look around at anything else that obviously sticks out, but then try to climb up to the platform to see what's there.
Lucien will also swim to the other side
