Adolmain informs everyone in a whisper “there is definitely more than one creature of some kind in there, I say it may work if you three enter first reporting to them hurriedly that Glassstaff is coming and he is angry, I can jump in the room and light them up with a spell” INITIATIVE 3
Solaris opens the door, with Adolmain immediately behind him. Rastin and Autzen hang back out of view. This barracks contains four roughly built wooden bunks, with heaped-up blankets and dirty dishes scattered about. A strong smell of unwashed bodies and rotten meat fills the air. Three tall, furry humanoids are lounging among the mess, barking orders at a sad little goblin that demeans itself for their amusement. Your sudden appearance causes the goblin to faint. You instantly recognize the humanoids to be bugbears, the same type of creature as Klarg, the deputy you defeated in the goblin gave two moons ago.

The largest Bugbear (B3) appears startled at your entrance. He wears a jeweled eyepatch. He recognizes your red cloaks and appears to relax.
"You new recruits?" he says, his common tongue producing a guttural tone. "I'm Mosk. Learn the name. Listen to me. Don't give me shit." Pointing at the goblin who just fainted, "You scared our toy," he laughs. "Maybe you can help us awaken him…or we can just gut him. I'm bored and hungry."
He notices Adolmain behind the door, "Why do you have the mage's staff?" he says with a perplexed look. "Surprised he'd let you hold that thing. Or did you steal it? Maybe we can fence it and get some coin!"
(the red cloak trick works to some extent (please, next time, specifically tell me when you pick up items from NPCs. I believe nick suggested it to the party but didn't really get a clear indication that you in fact took the cloaks until you entered the room. The deception check failed partially, but they do think you are one of them. They simply won't think Adolmain is Glasstaff due to the failed roll by Solaris (their guard is up and not easily fooled. Feel free to do another deception check if you try some other approach to trick them during your turn).

Rastin realizes he is not in a position to attack, but senses a fight is most certainly about to break out. Fortunately, he is well positioned to prepare his companions for the fight. Having prepared for this moment, Rastin quietly utters a few words and stealthily sprinkles a bit of holy water on Solaris, Autzen, and Adolmain. This blessing shall serve them well in the imminent battle.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"What your business here? You all should be in town keeping the locals in line. The Black Spider and Glasstaff will not be pleased." says another Bugbear (B1).
Autzen can feel their cover will be blown at any moment and determines he cannot afford to find himself outside of the room when it is.
Moving past Rastin and Aldomain, Autzen slowly moves into the room and against the far wall between their two bed. Quietly, he slides his Crossbow, Light from beneath his cape and inserts a bolt. He's not sure why, but Autzen is feeling, lucky? Feeling blessed, perhaps? It's an odd feeling but whatever it is, he's feeling very sure of his next move.
Sizing up the room, Autzen determines that the big ugly Bugbear with the eye patch clearly is calling the shots. Perhaps his pet Goblin and lap dogs will think twice before attacking once their leader has an arrow sticking out of his face. (See perception roll in prior post (Perception: 17).
Autzen focuses on the way of the Battle Master, on not only hitting, but taking their leader to the ground with his first shot. The time is now. Autzen gives a quick, confirming nod to his companions, signaling his intentions, then raises his bow and attacks.
As the arrow flies through the air, Autzen unfurls his wings and shouts "Tmy oiddyl wzir miw ruwyl!" Intimidation15
(OOC Trip Attack: When you hit with a weapon attack, you can expend one superiority die to add the total to the damage roll, and if the target is Large or smaller, it must make a STR saving throw (DC 13). On failure, you knock the target prone.
OOC: Nate, I can't see the grid locations, but I'm far "left" wall, between the beds)

The bugbears raise their thick eyebrows with curiosity as they see Autzen nonchalantly enter the room to the western wall. Autzen quickly surveys the soon to be enemy and nods to Solaris, indicating who is the strongest and weakest of the group (perception successful will list HP below).
As Autzen raises his crossbow the one eyed Mosk screams, "It's a trap!!!!"
The crossbow hits Mosk with a tremendous impact before he could bark additional orders. He screams in pain as his blood sprays the room, creating a thin red mist. Autzen's target was perfectly placed, as not only was the bolt sent with intent to harm and maim, but also to topple. Mosk attempts to steady himself from the sheer massive impact of the bolt. All - first, great time at Josh's house for our in-person game. Good times and definitely needs to be a regular occurrence.
During our in-person session the adventurers finished clearing the Redbrand hideout, rescued a family, and brought three Redbrand soldier to Sildar. Solaris, Adolmain and Rastin joined the Lords Alliance (each receives the title "Cloak"). You learned that Hadia, who hired you to kill the Redbrand leader did so because she wants to lead the Redbrand's. The family successfully made it home, you gave Sildar two Redbrand prisoners for imprisonment and Autzen murdered the third Redbrand. Sildar instructed you to visit the Ruins of Thundertree to learn the location of Cragmaw Castle. Also, the family you rescued said there is a valuable necklace within the Ruins that you are free to take for rescuing them.
We started out with you reaching the games of Thundertree, but we will back-track and you are now with Sildar at the Inn about to depart. Now is the opportunity for Julien to introduce himself to your crew, and Solaris can bow out. I will post the setting and we can resume posting.
Julien's character will start out at 3rd level. I gave him 120 GP and a random +1 weapon/armour. He can introduce his class/race when he posts.
Julien - some random notes:
Post at least every other day if possible (ideally - once per day)
Characters may interact with each other freely.
All posts are to be in 3rd person, with "Quotations for dialogue." Your dialogue should be colored in the color you chose.
There are no minimum word counts for posting as long as your character is either: doing something, saying something, thinking about something, or passing their turn.
Your posts in character should be in complete sentences. No chat room speak or shorthand.
Spelling and grammar mistakes happen! Just keep your posts readable...
When talking in OOC, out of character, use parentheses. This is to ask questions to other players or the DM, or just to have a conversation. I would keep regular off-topic conversation to a minimum in this thread and instead take it to our group PM!
When making rolls, please insert the roll into the same post you are making them, along with what you are rolling in parentheses at the end. For example, Nox tends to the campfire and attempts to keep it stoked despite the cold. (15 for Survival)
When using abilities, please insert the tooltip into the same post you are using them. Check the below spoiler for more information.
How do the tooltips/links to spells etc work?
D&D Beyond offers the ability to link certain aspects on the forum in mouse-over triggered tooltips, such as magic items, monsters or combat actions - examples being Adult Black Dragon and dash. To create tooltips in this way as these, use the appropriate [tag][/tag] around the desired subject.
Example: [ magicitem]sunblade[/ magicitem] (Without spaces within the [ ] brackets.)
During combat, you can only post once until every character has had a chance to post, and then the DM has had a chance to post the monsters.
During combat, please indicate which actions you are taking, if any apply: bonus, standard, movement. Example below.
With an encouraging shout, Aurelia emboldens Slade. Don't give up, he's on the ropes! She reaches out her hand, and silver fire pours outwards, engulfing the orcs.
Bonus: healing word targeting Slade, healing 5 hp Action: burning hands at the orcish group, dealing 9 Movement: Step to Ashelee's right-hand side, blocking the door
(OOC:This was Aurelia's last spell slot for the day, so she's out of healing magic)
Absences
Everyone is bound to have periods in which they cannot post at all. If you know you will be absent, please inform the DM. If you have exact dates, feel free to share them with the DM. Here are some rules about being absent:
If you are unable to post for a certain period and if you feel comfortable with another player playing your character, then you may let that player post your character for you during your absence.
If you are absent, the DM can provide a summary, but it is on you to understand the content you have missed.
If you are NOT comfortable with anyone posting your character, then the DM will create convenient reasons why your character is unable to assist the party. Most likely, illnesses, curses, etc. If you return and the party is still on an "away" mission, we can either: retcon or your character can have a micro adventure until the characters return to your character.
If you go a whole three days without posting, do not respond to PMs, and do not inform anyone of your absence, you will be considered to have dropped the group until you have spoken with the DM. (I am nice! Bad things IRL happen! If something caused you to go dark, DON'T WORRY AND TALK TO ME!)

She is clearly of Calashite descent, although those of you that look closely would see freckles, gold tinted eyes, and a slight point on the tips of her ears suggesting a mix of other races in her ancestry.
"Talking about the Ruins of Thundertree? You'll want to keep your voices down," she advises. "The redbrands will hear you and they like to make trouble, especially with a group of non humans."
Adolmain looks warily at this fairly attractive young woman who just steps up to the group as if we are old friends. “Not sure who you are, but I think it’ll be awhile before the Redbrands are able to make their presence felt in this town following our destruction of their hideout! Is there something we can help you with? You seem to be interested in us, is it all of us or are you looking to see if one of us is free for the night, Autzen maybe?”
