This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
This sounds interesting. So are we playing just the heroes are are villains (maybe just former villains) included as PCs?

Class: Warlock (Great Old One) Race: Half-Elf Name: Katelin (Whispers) Alignment: Neutral Equipment type: Power Dependant
Appearance: Katelin is a petite young woman, standing just around 5'4 in height. She keeps her naturally black hair streaked with dark purple and her eyes are a pale blue/grey colour. She hasn't changed her look much since switching sides, her primary costume piece being the dark cloak which is able to obscure most of her face and form when needed. Underneath the rest of her costume alternates between a matching body suit or more casual attire.
Backstory: Katelin began as a street urchin, stealing or conning people to survive. She learned to be pretty decent at lying or persuading her way out of trouble, sometimes even into trouble. Her petite frame also lead to some people simply underestimating her so she used that to her advantage as well.
As she got older, she got more brazen and with a small group of fellow petty criminals broke into an old abandoned library. Not that they expected to find anything particularly valuable, but it was there and off limits so they of course had to get in. While exploring the condemned building, Katelin stepped on the wrong place and fell through the floor into some cavern under the building, apparently being knocked unconscious.
When she awoke, she was being loaded into an ambulance with police corralling her friends. To this day she doesn't clearly remember what happened but she remembers a cold sensation wash over her and a voice in her mind though she couldn't make out the words. Whatever it was she found she could do things she couldn't before; get into people's heads, talk to them or manipulate them to her own ends. Naturally she used this for her own benefit.
Soon she drew the attention of some minor local villains who offered an opportunity to join them. Seeing an opening to help herself through this she accepted, trading in her tattered black hoodie for more stylish cloak and hood and adopting the name 'Whispers' after both her relatively quiet speaking voice and the sometimes creepy telepathic whispers she'd send to people.
She spent several years with this group until that apocalyptic threat appeared and like many other villains joined up with the good guys to help stop it. Her own contribution was likely minimal, but afterwards she felt a draw toward the heroes instead so quietly slipped away from what remained of her old team.
my equipment is theme 3, just equipment. My powers are enhancements, built into my body by those that trained me.
Personality Traits
I expect danger around every corner. I refuse to become a victim, and I will not allow others to be victimized.
Ideals
I like to know my enemy’s capabilities and weaknesses before rushing into battle. (Lawful) I’ll stop the spirits that haunt me or die trying. (Any)
Bonds
I would sacrifice my life and my soul to protect the innocent. I keep my thoughts and discoveries in a journal. My journal is my legacy.
Flaws
I assume the worst in people. I am a purveyor of doom and gloom who lives in a world without hope.
Organizations
Does not trust big organizations
Allies
The PC have earned my trust. Mostly.
Enemies
Everyone has the potential to become an enemy. I prepare for each of these potential situations.
Backstory
My parents refused to give me up to a corporation that wanted train me to be the perfect weapon, after discovering my natural aptitude for weapons. My parents were gunned down in an ally, and the corporation eagerly swooped me up, enhancing my abilities, and augmenting my body. I eventually escaped and took bloody revenge on them. I left that place, burning it to the ground. They had torn me apart, and put me back together. The boy I was is gone, now there is only what they made, turned lose against them. There is only Silent Knight. Now I've made it my mission to end the cycle of violence, never allowing another child to lose their parents.
Other
My costume makes it so you can only see my eyes. whatever armor I'm wearing will be black, and form fitting
After the event, Melody watched on as her parents tried to rebuild their crumbling estate. She was too far gone at this point - over the last 3 years, her skin had turned a pallor gray, her features wore away into nothing, and she had found herself with the curious ability to change her form. Every movement that she took was agony, but she couldn't allow her family to live on the streets, with nowhere to call home.
Spy is a strange villain who appeared shortly after the event. It's not known who Spy is or what they're after. All that's known is that money has been vanishing from business accounts and bank vaults. The only real evidence that Spy even exists are blurry photos of a gray, shapely but otherwise featureless figure fleeing from several crime scenes. People are tied up and gagged at the same time that they appear at completely different places on security footage.
The luck of Melody's family began to look up in the months after the event. An unnamed benefactor reached out to them, listened to their plight, and began wiring the family money. Small amounts at a time, to help them rebuild their lives. It's not really known who this generous benefactor is or why they're helping Melody's parents in particular, but the family is finally getting back on their feet. They're rebuilding their shattered credit with the aid of their mystery benefactor and they're finally financially secure enough to start shopping around for a new apartment.
Melody Velias, better known under the alias, Spy, is a villain. A Changeling Rogue with the Magic Initiate feat, she has been performing petty crimes to pay her family's way in the months following the event. I used point buy for ability scores and she uses actual equipment as opposed to a super suit.
She has gray skin and a featureless face, pretty much what you'd expect a standard changeling to look like. a heavy leather jacket while in said form as well(Think Tunnel Snakes), long rider's boots, and a black and white bodysuit made out of highly stretchy material underneath. She keeps a backpack strapped to her containing a variety of different outfits she's picked up overtime, and will often steal the clothing of those she disguises herself as.
She avoids killing if it can be helped, but at the end of the day, her standard of ethics has faded. She doesn't really see others as people anymore, and the only people she really cares about these days are her family.
Here's the character sheet. I may decide to change her to an Arcane Trickster Rogue later, but I don't want to have to go through all the effort of copying stuff from my physical book into DDB right now. When the campaign starts, since a major part of her secret identity is built on deception and remaining unknown, I'll probably have her be disguised as another hero or villain in the area whom her abilities could pass for if that's cool.
Class: Fighter (Arcane Archer) Race: Elf (High Elf) Name: Dr. Christian Perrin (The Raven) Alignment: Neutral Equipment type: Power Dependent/Equipment Dependent
Appearance: Dr. Perrin is in his mid 30's. He is of average height at 5'11", his hair has gone prematurely grey. His eyes are quite striking, as the irises are a bright yellowish-orange. While not in costume he is normally dressed in jeans and a button down shirt. His costume consists of all black clothing, with a hooded trench coat. A unique item he wears is a plague doctor mask, fitted with upgraded ocular sights.
Backstory: Before the Event, as Christian calls it, he was a simple anthropologist studying strange and foreign cultures, he specialized in alien culture. His studies led him to an abandoned series of mining tunnels and camps. The strange thing about the tunnels is that they were smooth as glass. Upon entering the camp, he heard an indiscernible whisper that seemed to get louder as he got deeper into the camp. Sitting inside a strange looking crate, was a weapon that was certainly not of this world. His heart pounded with anticipation as he reached for the weapon. As soon as he touched, a searing pain shot through his entire body. The pain was so intense that he sat there in a silent scream, not that anybody would hear him if he could scream. The world went black. The next thing he knew, he was back in his apartment and lying his bed. He thought it was all a dream, except that his body felt like he was hit by a truck. There propped on the wall, was the most magnificent item he has ever seen.
(So basically the idea behind the character is that the weapon has augmented him physically and mentally. He is basically a mutant at this point. The weapon is almost sentient, but at this point is subtlety suggests actions. As he levels up, the weapon's "voice" will become more prominent.)
Before I post my character, I'd like to ask something of you. In order for my current character concept to work, I need to be able to use a few specific homebrew spells. I know some DMs are skeptical about allowing that, but these are from a great publisher, and I feel that they're balanced. The spells are Conjure Hardlight Avatar, Hardlight Blaster, Hardlight Construction, Hardlight Frame, Hardlight Gauntlet, Hardlight Nails, Hardlight Needle, and Orbital Hardlight Cannon. These are all from Dark Matter, by Mage Hand Press. I've used Dark Matter before, and I've found it to be very balanced and fun to use. My character is going to be a high elf wizard with the ability to manipulate light and turn it physical, and these spells will be essential for that.
I'll also include the spell descriptions if you want.

Regrading other questions, I'm going to keep Recruitment open for a few days. After closing the recruitment I will go through all the character submissions and select players. You guys can play heroes or villains it is up to you. Like I said, regardless of what side you are on, the apocalyptic event that happened a year prior forced almost everyone to work together and one of the teams that formed at that time consisted of the PCs. You guys split after that but you do know each other.
Name: Robert Pobermin (Bo-Po) Race: Goliath Class: Fighter (Battle Master) Feat: Durable Alignmeant: Neutral (with Good tendencies)
Equipment: Power Dependent – “War Hammers” are his fists. “Light Crossbow & Bolts” are limited energy charges he can shoot at a distance. “Chain Mail” is his naturally tough skin.
Description: Robert (Bo) Pobermin (Bo-Po) is a 48-year old man living in a small ramshackle apartment in the Big City. He is a large man standing at 6’ 3” and weighing in at 220 lbs. He wears old dark clothes in order to blend in with the background of the city. He is bald with steel-grey eyes. He works as a bouncer at a seedy bar, but otherwise mostly keeps to himself.
Background: Bo-Po was born Robert Pobermin in a quiet suburban neighborhood. His parents lived a quiet life, but were secretly the Super Heroes Wind-Wielder & PowerMan. Due to his super-parents, Bo was born with unusual strength and vitality, and was always quite large. As a teen, his parents tried to push him into the family business of being a super hero, but he rebelled against them wanting to lead a “normal” life. Once he graduated high school, he left home without a word making his way to the Big City.
Bo lived on the streets for a few years where he learned the back alleys and underworld like it was his own hometown. He got into many fights along the way and developed into a great street brawler with amazing resilience. His super-powers amped up his normal fighting prowess as well as his healing and endurance. During his first year on the streets he met (and fell in love with) a young girl, Qusie. One day she was just, gone… Bo has never forgotten her, or stopped looking for her.
He despises bullies, and with the use of his super-powers, he fought and defeated many of the street’s worst offenders to the point where he need only look in the general direction of would-be bullies, and they would run away.
He likes to drink, gamble, smoke, and swear… all of which he tends to take to the extreme. He has even taken up making his own Home Brew alcohol (mostly grain alcohol) with some supplies he “found” after they fell off of a truck.
Bo does not try to be a "hero", but he cannot let an obvious crime go by without doing something about it. When the Epic-Event happened a year ago, he reluctantly joined a group of other supers to help do something to stop it. Now he is back to Bouncing at the High Life bar, and drinking most of his paycheck.
Are we ever sure that we exist? Do we have feelings? Or are we just NPC's designed to think highly? If so what is our purpose? Why are we here? Who are the players? Or are there Players?
Alignment: Neutral Good. Serene attempts to be good in life, but his Beetle form is hard to control, let alone the instincts of both animals.
Backstory: Serene was named what his name is because he was born on a peaceful night, with no trouble whatsoever. So they thought. Little Baby Serene was stung by a wasp, on a full moon, while people were getting X-Ray’d on the other side of the curtains. This combination of Radiation, Moonlight and an unfortunate event changed Serene’s life, as it gave him a second natural form, of which he takes on a more wasp-like appearance.
Now, he learned about this the hard way. When he was 15, Serene was built like a football player. He was on the defensive line for the home team, and it was his birthday. His parents were super powered too, one with the ability to breathe fire and one who could heal with their touch. These combined to a power Serene was used to; the power to light weapons on fire. So he did this at home, alone with his family, to light the candles, when it scared a hive of bees, and due to the threat, Serene shifted for the first time, transforming into a person with the eyes and antennae of a wasp. This caused the bees to swarm him and flap their wings fast, thinking he was an actual wasp, before he lit them all on fire. He then un-shifted, and saw both of his parents had fainted.
As he grew up, his parents helped him understand and use his powers. He grew up to be a defensive lineman in the Nation Football League (assuming this world has a football league), and was living a happy life. He used his powers for good, and had bought a padded leather Jacket. Then the apocalyptic event happened, and he was forced to work with the villains and heroes of the world. As he was helping, he got caught in some waste with the 2nd strongest animal on earth, a Rhino Beetle. This gave him a 2nd, hard to control form of a person with plating all around his body and arms, with hair on his exposed skin, and all his equipment fuses with him when he does this. He now reluctantly uses this power and fights against this bloodlust he has, only failing to do so on a full moon, where he goes out to paint the town red.
He has even learned to combine the 2 forms, making a winged Bug-Eyed armor plated creature as a threat to his enemies.
Theme: While normal or in his wasp form, his equipment is just that, equipment. But when he shifts to his more unnatural, Beetle form, his equipment fuses with his body, only to come back to use when he returns to normal. (Theme 1 and 3, kinda.)
Feat: Charger
Appearance: Serene is a large, and wide dirty blonde haired man with brown eyes, built as if he could wrestle a bear, and during training, he has. He wears his Jacket and uses a Giant Meat Cleaver. When he shifts, his eyes turn into that of an insects (like you see on a fly), and he grows Antennae and wings, but they are too weak to provide flight. However, his Beetle form is different. He grows an armor plating over the vital areas for protection, including the forehead, and grows black hair on the exposed places. This gets rid of all equipment he is using, as it is unnecessary, as this form has all he needs. When he uses both, they combine, using the plating and hair of the beetle form, and the eyes, antennae, and wings of the wasp form.
