There is a lot of rubble and debris around, dust is settled on a lot, but you can tell that the stairs have been used recently, multiple times, but you can’t tell by what or how long ago. They are not barren of tracks.
(You aren’t in the courtyard yet right? You meant as you walk down the stairs? In my head, you are all approaching the courtyard, but not there yet!)
Gwenant squints at the ground where Spotty is pointing, not quite able to make anything out, yet willing to trust an ally's word. She readies her trident and stands by. "Well spotted, Spotty! Think this is our way in?"
Zak will then try and find the biggest rock/boulder he can find out by the stairs and then throw it on the trap door that Spotty found and see what happens.
He doesn't really think this through... he just knows he doesn't want to fall into it on their way out and he knows he will forget about it.
"Wait, is it just a normal trapdoor, or is it a trapped trapdoor?" At which point Gwenant notices the large rock hurtling towards where Spotty pointed out the door. Too caught off guard to react, the gladiatrix resembled a deer caught in the torchlight, staring humbly at whatever was to come.
Zak: you grab a nice big boulder and set it on the trapdoor. You hear a small yap and then a crunch, like bones breaking.
Under the trapdoor is a small pit about 10 ft deep. You notice two skeletons down there (that look goblinoid) and one dead goblin that seems to be somewhat “fresh”, and something might have been chewing at its flesh. You also see what seems to be the body of a giant rat, half crushed under a boulder... tail is slightly twitching but the head and upper body is completely crushed.
The door opens into the tower. This circular area is cobbled with cracked granite, upon which sprawl the bodies of four goblins, apparently slain in combat. One corpse stands with its back against the western wall, the spear that killed it still skewering it and holding it upright. Three wooden doors lead from this area (one of which is the one you just opened, two are on the west side of the tower, nortwest and southwest). A hollow tower of loose masonry reaches thirty feet into the air, but the intervening floors and stairs are gone, except for a couple of crumbled ledges.
Renny looks around as they get closer, "I think a dragon cult built the place originally. But that was a really long time ago."
"No boom today. Boom tomorrow. There's always a boom tomorrow"
"No power in the 'verse can stop me"
Hef looks to Spotty, "Well, trap-springer, ready to earn your pay?"
As they walk Martin attempts to see if there is any signs of a party having come through here like they had been told.

(not sure which skill would be relevant here, so I just did both :p)
(When unsure, make a normal 1d20 roll and put the modifiers in brackets)
Spotty:
You see a concealed trapdoor that covers a 10-foot-square, 10-foot-deep pit. A 2-foot-wide catwalk on the west edge allows access to the tower door.

"There's a trapdoor here... tread carefully." Spotty walks around the trapdoor and gestures for the others to follow his lead.

Martin follows trying to stay as far away from the trap door as possible. "Clearly they did not want unexpected visitors."

Renny eyes the area as she walks with the others, "Wonder what kind of trap it is."

"Um... good job." Spotty makes a disgusted face, then turns around and tries the tower door. "Let's see if we can get inside..."
"There... done and done!"
He smiles at everyone; thinks he's done something good and is confused at Spotty's look of disgust and awaits what happens when Spotty tries the door.
"Careful, Spotty. There could be traps everywhere."
Renny keeps at least 15 feet back from the door when people start to mess with it.

Spotty carefully checks both western doors.

Hef remains on guard and lingers near Spotty. He tries to stay within 10 feet, but knows he may jostle the kobild and doesn't want to cause any harm.
(Sorry about the absence, all. I've been out of pocket the last 2 days.)
