Deftly manipulating the lock with his tools Tibi unlocks the door.
This room contains four wooden tables with two small wooden coffers atop each one. Hanging on the wall opposite the door is a beautiful golden shield. Standing in front of the shield is an old man in plain garments, carrying a lit candlestick. As he turns to face the door, you see that his shadow on the far wall doesn’t match his form, but appears to be the shadow of a pudgy, horned fiend with small wings.
As Reya enters the room behind you she removes her mask. "High Overseer!" she says with awe and drops to a knee. "Reya Mantlemorn, Hellriders at your service. I have found you safe. Are you injured?"
Gilbert would level his wand towards the man casting the strange shadow. As he does so the small animated letter opener would scurry across the floor, moving up next to him. Just standing there near the creature.
Thavius looks down on the woman, tears begin to form in his eyes.
"Oh, my brave warrior. I am glad to see you. I was visiting a parish a few miles outside the city when it disappeared! It was horrible! I am uninjured though and fled to Baldur's Gate to seek refuge. I was captured by Duke Vanthampur's guards shortly after my arrival in Baldur’s Gate. The duke needs my help to ascertain the magical properties of this celestial shield. She says her family “acquired” it from a crypt under the city. I am a prisoner here and must do her bidding or they will kill me. Thank you for saving me! Is the duke dead?"
Reya stands and glances at the shield and even the shadow but seems not to pay attention to them or care. "We have not seen the Duke. I have contracted the services of these men to help me discover what happened to the city and hopefully return it to its glory. We can help you escape. Come with us."
She motions to you as she says this and makes ready to lead Thavius out of the room.
"Hang on a minute Little lady! Before we go anywhere and lead him, or that thing, I'm still not sure which out of this room. I want to know why his shadow doesn't match his body shape?" Tibi says.
"What? We need to get the High Overseer out of here before more cultists or that devil creature return. We don't have time to discuss tricks of the light. We need to get moving." She replies
"What? We need to get the High Overseer out of here before more cultists or that devil creature return. We don't have time to discuss tricks of the light. We need to get moving." She replies
Tibi draws his rapier and short sword an puts the rapier up against the so called Overseer's throat "Sorry Little Lady but he isn't going anywhere until he proves to my satisfaction that he is actually the so called Overseer and not some devil or demon in disguise!"
Kreeg does not try to defend himself, but Reya draws her sword as Tibi makes his quick move.
"What are you saying? Do you truly believe what the sniveling boy upstairs said? He was obviously was lying. The High Overseer says he was captured, he's being forced to work for the Duke, he isn't in league with her." Reya says
"Do you really want to have this discussion LIttle Lady - it's not one you'll win. For Tymora's sake just look at his shadow. Do you think if this wasn't what it - more and more I'm convinced it's an it - wanted it would have been a little worried with my sword at its throat?" Tibi pleads with Reya (Persuasion/Intimidation = 10)
Meanwhile Tibi keeps his rapier pointed at the so called High Overseer's throat ready to thrust forward the minute the creature reveals its true nature.
Gilbert would move towards whatever light is casting the shadow.. positioning himself in front of it so that his shadow may fall next to the overseer's. "If it were a trick of the light.. my shadow would be corrupted as well." The verdan would say as his familiar moves to hover in the air directly behind the overseer.
"Ms. Mantlemorn, I have every reason to believe that you have nothing but good intentions here. And indeed, if Mr. Kreeg is telling the truth, then he needs our help. May I consult privately for a moment with my colleague here?" Darvin says, gesturing toward Gil. "Between us we may have some magical tools that will help us ascertain the truth of the situation."
Assuming nobody objects, Darvin pulls Gil aside, rounding the corner so they can speak out of earshot of Kreeg.
"Can you do a divination to ascertain whether he is being affected by some sort of illusion? Perhaps the identify spell? I could try to read his thoughts as well. I suppose even if we determine that he is a fiend in disguise, convincing Ms. Mantlemorn of this may be another matter, but at least we would have something concrete to point to."
Gil would laugh at the question he stood casting his shadow in the light. "that is a good idea friend, of course I can cast some spells to help. How about I cast detect magic first to see if there is anything kind of magic present.. and then if there is, I can cast identify. I can use my wand for the first spell but the second will take longer if I wish to conserve my magic" Gil would say before turning towards the man and casting detect magic.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Gilbert uses his wand to cast Detect Magic and sees a faint blue glow around the shield that hangs from the wall.
As Darvin directs his thoughts on Kreeg the initial feelings he gets is that Kreeg is desperately trying to convince Reya of the story he has given and that he is being dishonest. Darvin then tries to probe deeper.

Darvin probes deeper in Kreeg's mind
Darvin sees that he is very fearful that Reya, as well as the party, learns the truth of who he is and what he is doing, and that he has lost his spell casting abilities. His thoughts keep returning to how he is working with the Duke to bring down Baldur's Gate just as he brought down Elturel.

Telepathically you hear a voice in your head. The voice is a deep, hollow whisper "I am the Hidden Lord, a celestial being who resides in the shield. I vow to help you rescue Elturel. But you must take this shield with you into the Nine Hells to do so. Be warned though a secret society is after the shield and it’s only a matter of time before its evil members find it. This secret society doesn’t want the shield’s powers to be used for good."
Gilbert's eyes would move to the shield. "As the hordsperson, I am taking this shield..." The verdan would say as he moves towards the wall. He would inspect the shield closely and begin taking the time to cast identify as he stands in front of it. "Please try not to disturb me while investigate this item further." He would say as his familiar and walking letter opener move to position themselves between Gil and the potential enemy.

"Reya, save me from these killers! I command you as your High Overseer!" Kreeg demands,
But doubt crosses Reya's face. "Explain the shadow then."
"I cannot" he replies, "I know nothing about it. It must be something that is happening here by my captors."
"You are a mighty priest of Torm! Why do you not defend yourself?" She asks
"Defend me Hellrider, he again demands."
Meanwhile Tibi keeps his rapier pointed at the so called High Overseer's throat ready to thrust forward the minute the creature reveals its true nature.
