Soar, when you speak to Fennet, his response is to splutter and turn red. I... How... Who do... What... That's... Why, I've never in my life... I... Good day, madam. Good day to you. He turns around and walks away.
Jamna says she intends to follow the cultists through the streets. If you're not joining her, she's willing to leave a message at a tavern in the northern part of the city, so you can follow her trail there. I'm not losing sight of those wagons. Do what you need to in the city, but don't take too long. Remember, go to the Defiant Kobold in the North Ward, and ask the bartender for the Candlekeep Wine. I could use some backup when those scumbags head north.
The pixie doesn't really understand what Soar is trying to convey, as it's rather complex. But she is able to explain that she will be staying with Lasfelro's wagon, yes.
When Soar approaches Lasfelro, he takes a long time to think before answering. It's legal. A pet. Got a buyer in the Trade Ward. He doesn't volunteer any more information.
As Elspeth says her goodbyes, she gets some bracing hugs from the two brothers, and all the guards, including Eldkin, part on good terms. Eldkin even gives Elspeth and Jalt a compliment: Good work there. Tough trip. Hope to work with you again sometime.
Nate, Sulesdeg is quiet, as he usually is. But before you go, he says, nodding towards the cultists: Good luck with those folks. And thanks. For everything.
Edhelri says, Well, it certainly was interesting travelling with you, Master Nate. A healer and a warrior and a bodyguard and goodness knows what else. I have a feeling we shall never meet again. Yes, I shall be seeing my friends. And completing my business. Well, best of luck to you, young man. Take care of yourself, and try not to take too many foolish risks. She kisses you on one cheek, laughs a little, and leaves.
The caravan has pulled up to the southernmost gate of Waterdeep, and you see the tall walls and taller buildings rising above you now. All around, people are making their goodbyes, and many folk of the caravan, even those you have barely spoken to, come to offer their thanks and to promise to put in a word for you with the merchant guilds, should you need employment in the future.
Break in Lasfelro's wagon (Soar) Find a magic shop (Nate and Elspeth) Find a powerful spellcaster to help the elf (Elspeth) Find a tavern to cast locate object (Elspeth) Meet the Harper contact (Nate) Visit the temple of Kelemvor (Soar)
Have I missed anything? Anything to add? Is Jalt doing anything? Will you split up, or stay together?
It's late evening, and you are at the city gates still. There is a halfling nearby selling maps for 5 silvers if you want one.
Jalt has no intention on following the cultists for the sheer fact that he's definitely recognizable at this point. Remind me. were the things Soar and Jalt paid for being shipped here to Waterdeep? If so, might be time to pick them up. Unless that's best left for when we are about to leave the city. Jalt would be ready to meet the Harper contact.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Hoard of the Dragon Queen - Jalt Rhogar - Dragonborn Cleric (9)
It's getting late - the sun will be setting soon, so it is likely to be too late to meet the Harper contact tonight. The cultists have headed off through the city, trailed by Jamna. Carlon is still with you, hanging around. You probably have time to meet the Harper contact tonight if you wish. Do you want to try that first? If so, please someone needs to make a Persuasion check to ask someone for directions, or a Perception check to find your way yourselves, and with advantage because I imagine you're helping each other.
(OOC: In order to keep the story moving along, I will assume that you are all staying together for each of the things you are doing in Waterdeep, unless you specifically say otherwise.)
Would Soar know the relative location of the corner of Tinker's Row and Corley Street, and the Defiant Kobold in the North Ward? And how close they are to the pub she mentioned as a meetup point just outside of the City of the Dead?
She says a quick goodbye and thank you to Leda. "Glad to have traveled with you. Good luck traveling north. Some people call me Soar here in town. Look me up at the pub right outside the City of the Dead if you need anything. I should be there for a day or two. Also, I'm sorry if what about what I'm about to do bothers you."
OOC: Buckle up. Sorry team. Had to try it. Couldn't be sure that we'd ever find Lasfelro again, and Soar wouldn't be able to live with herself if she let this go. And maybe this causes enough of a distraction that Jamna and any other of our party can easily tail the cultists as they go.
Soar is right by the back of the wagon when replies to Lasfelro after she asks him what's inside. She does so in a loud enough voice to get some attention from the city watch ranging out of the Southern Gate Guardhouse, monitoring the traffic flow into Waterdeep.
"Oh, what a relief. I was really worried there was someone trapped in there, and here I was, fretting over nothing! I've kept you safe all the way from Baldur's Gate. Fulfilled my contract. To just clear up the confusion, I'll just open up the wagon and ask it then!"
Soar walks up to the wagon and begins to open it. She makes an obvious look at the guardhouse.
"The worst thing that happens is that I ask a peacock if it is being kidnapped or enslaved -- both very much against the law here against sentient beings -- and I look like an idiot. Or it's not an animal, and it's a sentient being, and we have a problem. The law has a problem. I don't want a problem here. I'd rather look like an idiot. So. One quick check. No harm in that, right?"
She will prepare to cast command on either the gargoyle or Lasfelro if either of them make a hostile move.
Soar doesn't have a comprehensive knowledge of the city; her life was rather sheltered and focused around the community she lived with. However, there is a halfling nearby selling a map if you want to buy it...
Leda smiles and she responds: Same to you, Boar. Or, Soar? Both good names. She's about to give you a friendly embrace when you mention that you are about to do something, and she pauses, puzzled.
Lasfelro initially reacts with confusion, and then with annoyance. Girl, what do you think... Stay away from that!
The guards are not paying attention, until about the middle of what Soar is saying as the words carry. One, a human woman, steps towards the wagon. Now then, what's all this?
Leda looks even more surprised as you reach for the door: Boar, I don't think...
The gargoyle watches you carefully, and as you touch the door, it takes a swing.
Nate would've reached out to shake Sulesdeg's hand. "It was a pleasure fighting along side you. And thank YOU for everything." Nate grips Sulesdeg's hand tightly, conveying thanks for not blowing the groups cover after the run in with the doppelganger.
Then to Edhelri, with no cowboy accent whatsoever, looks at her directly in the eyes: "I'll try not too. All the best to you, Ma'am!" then Nate leaves his cowboy hat and whip on Edhelri's wagon, winks at her, then walks away.
Nate would most definitely buy a map of Waterdeep from the halfling. (-5sp)
(so is it too late to see the Harper contact tonight, or not? If we can, here's a Perception roll: 14 )
Also, before we leave, since we are all travelling together, Nate will back Soar up as she opens the wagon with the gargoyle inside... keeping a VERY close eye on this Lasfelro person as she opens the wagon, ready to jump the mofo if need be.
(There's still time to meet the Harpers tonight, so long as you don't all get killed or arrested...)
The map is something like this, though a bit more detailed:
You know that the harper agent contact point is in the Trade Ward, and the streets are marked on the map. The other points of interest are the City of the Dead which contains Soar's former home, and the Defiant Kobold tavern at the very north tip of North Ward and bordering Field Ward.
If she can, as things start to try to come to a head, look at Nate and with her eyes direct him to the cultist wagons, and the same to Elspeth, she will, in line with her proposal that the druids follow the main quarry no matter the distraction.
(And as to Jalt’s question, Soar would have suggested he go to meet the Harper contact, agreeing with him that the now-famous Dragonborn is not the ideal inconspicuous tail for the cultists.)
You are all standing near and around a large wooden wagon with panelled sides and a thick wooden back door. On top of the door a gargoyle is perched, attached to the wagon by a silver chain. Soar is standing right at the back door, with Lasfelro nearby. Everyone else is fairly close, able to get within reach of the confrontation, or to back off if you wish, so you can assume that you can position yourself where you want. As combat begins, there's a flicker of movement from beneath the wagon; the pixie that has been visiting Soar is also here and may participate.
Round One Nate and the pixie Soar Guard (member of the City Watch) Elspeth Carlon Gargoyle and Lasfelro Jalt takes the traditional cleric position in initiative order. :)
Nate is up.
(It's kind of up to you if you are in combat or not. The gargoyle is likely to smack at Soar, but beyond that, you have options to defuse this and turn it in a few different directions. Combat is also one of these options of course.)
Yes, the final payment was one more week.
Soar, when you speak to Fennet, his response is to splutter and turn red. I... How... Who do... What... That's... Why, I've never in my life... I... Good day, madam. Good day to you. He turns around and walks away.

In your defense, we should not even be in combat, but for the foolish optimism of your paladinny friend with a too-long repressed sense of justice.
