If it is physically possible, Erro would suggest constructing the canoe down below so that there’s less chance of being seen up here. I don’t imagine building a canoe while dangling from ropes would be any easy task, however!
Ellis was hearing the others, thinking of what to do. "We should probably construct the boat first and lower it down, cause what if something were to happen to you while you are working on it and we were suspended down there?" he had said back, nervous about splitting up with how there might be more zombies and Yuan-ti nearby.
“Agreed. Very well! Spider Tempest, do your stuff!” Erro will continue to fiddle with 50ft of rope. He’ll need to go scale down the cliff, but he’ll also need it to scale up the other side. Hopefully there was more to be acquired back in the village!
Okay, bunch of rolls... Tempest, make me a straight wisdom check for building the boat (unless you are proficient in vehicles (boats) in which case add your proficiency as well). When you are all ready everyone who isn't a Spider or flying needs to make an athletics check for the climb down. How are you getting the boat down? That will need anpother athlects checks from whoever you decide is in charge of that... DC to be decided by your method of getting it down!
Tempest would nod and look to Rawk, "Could you grab us some sturdy long sticks and large leaves? Once I get enough we'll construct the canoe then Rawk can fly it down to the water and hold it there while I carry the two of you down the cliff in my spider form."Then after she brought in a few loads he'd begin to lay out a frame with the help of Erro and Ellis then transform into a Spider King and use his web to create a dense sticky network of webs around the frame. Once the frame was sufficiently bound together he'd hold up the makeshift canoe with his spider legs while Erro and Ellis carefully placed the large leaves on the sticky bottom and sides of the frame. Spider Tempest would reapply more webs to the leaves and frame to secure it adding in additional branches and leaves for support/ cover as Rawk brought them in.
(Hopefully that process will only take about 10-30 minutes)
Once done with the canoe Spider Tempest would weave at least three webs around the front on the craft that combined into a thick rope of spider silk at least 20ft long. Tempest would use one leg to point at the canoe then another to point at Rawk. Then flapping the two arms he's try to convey that she should fly the canoe down and hold it in place. Spider Tempest would then carefully carry Erro and Ellis, or each one at a time down the cliff.
(I have spider climb and large size so I'd hope to be able to carry at least one down at a time with ease.)
Rawk will happily assist Tempest in retrieving sticks and leaves. She will quickly flutter up into the air and fly around the canopy staying as far away from the ground as she can while she looks for dead limbs to use for their raft. She'll shift focuses each trip gathering sticks in one load then gathering leaves on the next, continuing the constant gathering until Tempest is satisfied. Once the canoe is finished she'll concentrate all her anger and rage as she attempts to lift the canoe and transport it safely to the water.
The canoe is assembled - it looks basic but will get the job done. The water is reasonably calm at the moment, at least. Rawk is able to get it down safely, and Spider Tempest is able to carry the others down, though even with his sticky feet there are a few hairy moments. You are able to get into the canoe (Tempest will have to shift out of beast form of course). I need a basic navigation check plus some paddling - choose a navigator (wisdom check) and someone to paddle (strength check).
Ellis would have helped with assembling the canoe and thankful as Tempest was able to carry him and Erro down so they didn't have to worry about climbing. He would try to help with either navigating if possible or paddling if that is more needed.
(Can there be two navigators or just one? If two is possible, Ellis would like to help with that but if not, he'll help paddle.)
Erro is extremely uncomfortable in the makeshift canoe, though is perhaps a hair more comfortable here than being ferried down the cliff by a giant spider. He says to himself, “this only needs to get us to the cliff...”
He will paddle furiously trying to keep the boat on course. Athletics: 9
((Sorry for low posting! Utterly distracted by my country and city on fire.))
Tempest will shift out of beast form stepping into the canoe and use Shape Water to aid in the paddling efforts. He'll try his best to direct them in the direction they want to go. He still had one ace up his sleeve if things got dicey but he wanted to save that for emergencies only. (Hopefully to give advantage or lower DC.)
Ellis is able to steer the boat well, cutting through the still-bumpy waves and avoiding a few obvious rocks sticking through. Erro is enthusiastic in his paddling, though not very efficient and movement seems to be rather slow, even with Tempest's help. The crossing takes longer than expected, and as you reach the cliffs on the other side the sun is getting lower in the sky, and the pervasive shadows around you grow darker and more forbidding, seeming to crowd in on you all. You manage to get the canoe safely against the opposite cliff face, and look at the daunting cliff seeming to tower above you.
Lets see how good you are at climbing... everyone (apart from Rawk who is flying) make athletics checks - even if Spider Tempest appears - as their are a lot of loose rocks that could cause problems even to the most sure-footed of creatures.
((Brad, how horrible & difficult. Prayers / fingers crossed for you all :( ))
As Rawk looks over the cliff she knows this will be a difficult task. "Let me see if I can make some anchors for you. You should all try to climb the same path and stop periodically at each anchor to rest for a minute before continuing." she'd chirp before pulling out some tent spikes from her bag. She'd fly up the cliff face using the flat part of her axe to drive in the tent spikes deeply and once she returned to the ground she'd point out the route to the group.
(I figure climbing anchors wouldn't exist back then but tent spikes could work as long as they were driven in deep enough.)
Atheletics: (To drive in the tent spikes deep enough) 21
Ellis had been thankful that he was able to steer the boat well, having gotten to the cliff safely at least and looking up at it. He heard Rawk, nodding back and waiting before he would try to start climbing and feeling incredibly nervous right now.
Tempest will watch the others as they climb making note of where they move. He'll tie a makeshift harness around his waist with the rope and tie loops at 10 ft intervals and follow behind his comrades slowly. He'll use Mold Earth to create sure, flat hand holds and foot holds taking his time on ascent. If he reaches the 20ft high mark he'll begin to use the anchors Rawk put in putting the farthest loop around the tent spike.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Rawk's use of the tent pegs is definitely a help - it makes progress easier. You all begin the laborious climb, those of you not used to being up high perhaps trying not to look down too much as you pull away from the sea. The climbing is tough going, and Erro in particular struggles, slipping nastily at one point (Erro take 9 damage as you scrape nastily down - it would have been much worse without those tent pegs to hold onto!)
The evening wears on, and the shadows cluster every more around, but finally you reach a slightly shallower part of the incline and can take a breather. Looking around, in the hour or so of the climb you are now higher than the opposite shore by some way, seeing the forest disappear into shadow.
You have a choice now;
1) you could try and crest the rise of the hill here. Rawk would know you are not near the top of the hill where Rutan's heart is, and so would potentially have to make your way towards it near the town (and whatever lurks there).
2) You could continue pushing up the hill towards your target on this side of the rise, as the land curves south and west. Though not as steep as the climb you have just done, the terrain is difficult and looks treacherous. Rawk would also know that there were some buildings perched towards the top of the hill. From here you can't see them, but if they were inhabited at all, they might be able to see your approach that way.
You could probably have a look around and see if there is somewhere less steep, just have a perception check (disadvantage unless you have dark vision).

It would certainly be... interesting.
