Erro will give an honest smirk at Darion’s emphasis on “lucky.” “It sounds like you have a mind to turn the Yuan-ti against each other once again. This seems a good plan, and could prove amusing at that. You know what they say about pride. If you fellows know the truth then I am sure she wants you dead at any cost.”
“Perhaps we should leave it up to the boy to decide if he wants to make this trip or a later one. However, I imagine it would be safer on a later trip after we he seen the path for ourselves.”
Erro will make sure to go and visit his friend at the drinking tent and ask the old man about what he knows of the areas that they are journeying to. Perhaps he has been there before, or he has some stories to tell. He’d wait to hear these stories before going over his final packing list.
"I'll see if my father knows anything about those villages. It may be difficult for me to get him to open up but perhaps he will. In regards to Tahvo, I might have a solution should we decide to let him accompany us. I can carry him and should any danger occur, I can fly him up into the tree canopy out of danger then return to aid in battling whatever may come. He's small and light enough that he shouldn't hinder me at all. Let's meet back here or at one of your houses this evening and discuss our plans over dinner." Aryn chirps as she bobs her head up and down while periodically jerking her head to follow her father's movements. She'll bow and quickly flutter off after her father.
Once she catches up to him she'll make sure they are away from others before she asks in a soft series of chirps, "Hello father... I wanted to ask... are you okay with me going out with the scouting party? Do you know anything about the villages we're traveling to or what dangers inhabit that part of the jungle?" If anyone could see her at that moment she would look about 6 inches shorter, which for her small stature is a drastic difference. Her respectful fear of her father causes her to appear to cower in front of him.
Erro- The old man ponders for a moment and says, "Ah yes, I remember hearing tales from some of our scouts that the jungle towards Kainui and Dom-Ryn is a bit safer until you're within a day or so from the villages. Less yuan-ti patrols to worry about. Both are stationed around the same giant lake you see. One at the southwest tip of the lake and the other on the eastern side. There are two small rivers that flow out from the lake and the scouts usually shy away from those. Too many animals drawn to the water you see. All in all its a much safer trek than to Dom-Eko and Gnavi. Yuan-ti infested jungle that way. Between you and I, Gnavi has bigger yuan-ti troubles than we. No magic folk to help protect us you see." he rambles on a bit more about giant dragon lizards and a one eyed lizard he refers to as "Rex". A DC 13 insight check would reveal he's truthful over most of the information that he's heard, but the latter ramblings are quite embellished.
Rawk- Your father sighs and smiles at you with all the paternal love he has. "Rawk... I've been preparing and dreading this moment since you were born. I don't want you to go, but I am okay with it and will support you in whatever way I can. I'm glad you and your friends are going to Dom-Ryn and Kainui. It's a much safer journey than the others have to make. The most important things for you and your group to know is to stay away from the rivers as much as you can. You'll have to cross both at some point to get to Dom-Ryn but move away from it as quick and quietly as you can. The first few days should be relatively safe. Most of the beasts tend to stay close to the lake and river. The two villages are situated along the lake. Kainui on the southwest bank and Dom-Ryn on the eastern bank. The yuan-ti are pretty sparce the further north you travel. At all times be on your guard. You know the predators here like to ambush. Make sure when you camp to find the safest and most defensible spot." he continues to give advice on everything as any over-protective parent would but you feel the care and concern in his words.
Rawk nods still cowering but less so than before. She knew how much her father loved her and took every word to heart. "Thank you father."she says and leaps up into a hug. She was much smaller than her father who appeared to be almost average human height. Anyone who would've seen the exchange would have no words to describe the love of their embrace. She'd hold on tight for a minute then release him and begin bobbing her head while the excitement of a new mission grew within her. "I'll be careful. I promise." she'd sped some time with her father and let him help her pack her things. When she noticed the sun beginning to set she'd make her way back discuss her father's advice with the others. Before arriving, she would swing by the grove and invite Elia to join them if she wanted.
Darion would listen to both Erro and Elia's comments on Tahvo "A good point, I will ask Tahvo and make sure he knows there could be danger, but I fear there is currently no-where truly safe."
As Rawk gives her suggestion, Darion's interest is peaked again "That sounds a good plan! I can't help but ask though, how much could you carry?" despite all the danger, Darion's natural curiosity is reasserting itself.
After that meeting, Darion will go and explain the plan to Tahvo, with Ellis if possible (as he is aware that Ellis may be a little better at people skills than him!)
In terms of preparation, Darion is not particularly clued up, but looking down at his otherwise well-made clothes he had saved from the Yuan-ti reflects they may not be the best jungle clothes. He will therefore ask around in the village and see if he can buy / borrow some appropriate clothing for the trip. He would then carefully store his normal clothes in the lockable chest, as well as they book he had been carrying around and the Necromantic spellbook. He will make sure to have a sturdy knapsack or the like to carry his spellbook and other supplies. Despite what Elia said, he will try and source some basic hardy foods as a backup as well.
Finally when all this is done, he would find a quiet spot to sit - he is happy for Tahvo or Ellis to observe - and would start on a ritual, taking out a small brass brazier he had found and burning some of the herbs he had taken as his reward in there. It takes over an hour of concentrated work, but then the ashes rise up from the brazier, swirling around until they coalesce into the shape of a small bird-like creature (think archaeopteryx), with a colourful purple plumage, and a mouth full of razor-sharp teeth. It comes and settles on Darion's shoulder.
"Hi, little one! Hmmm, what to call you? How about Robyn?"
Darion's new familiar would look at him reproachfully. ((I'll use the eagle stats for him!))
Ellis had felt Elia's hand on his shoulder, listening to her as he understood and nodded. Then he heard Erro and Rawk give their thoughts about what to do regarding Tahvo as both sounded good to him. He agreed with Rawk about meeting back up later to discuss plans over dinner, hearing Darion before going with him to talk to Tahvo about their plans and what the little boy would like to do. Ellis would also similarly try to buy or borrow some more appropriate clothing suitable for going through the jungle, storing his old clothing in his room. Then Ellis watches as Darion does some sort of ritual for an hour, very surprised to see the bird-like creature forms and comes alive. Oh wow, that is so cool.
Darion & Ellis- As Darion explains the plan to Tahvo you see his eyes light up with excitement. Despite the warnings of the many dangers that inhabit the jungle you can see his mind is made up. "It can't be any worse than the prison." he replies to one of your comments. That's when you realize he has a bit of a point. When you endure the torture and threat of death at the level you all faced in prison, any shred of hope sparks a flame of courage that nothing can put out except death itself. Now, faced with potential danger rather than present overbearing danger Tahvo is eager to try regardless of the outcome if there's the slightest chance he can reunite with his family.
Darion- You are able to easily find clothes that will function much better than your regular attire. (Eagle stats will work fine.)
Rawk- Your father releases you and gives a small nod of approval at your promise. A single tear forms in his eye and drops down his cheek as he watches you leave. You find Elia working with Tempest in the garden and she accepts your invitation leaving Tempest behind who smiles and bows at your arrival and departure.
All- as the afternoon turns to evening you all make your way back to the center of town and gather to discuss your plans.
When the group gathers to discuss plans, Darion will turn to Elia and ask "So, how amenable do you think the villages will be to our request for help? What arguments do you think they will find persuasive?"
Rawk butts in, "I think each of the villages should be receptive to aligning themselves with us. They also have the yuan-ti to worry about and have lost villagers to them just like us. They're a common enemy. We finally have a chance to defeat them so why wouldn't they join." she chirps proudly.
Elia goes to speak and stops while Rawk speaks. She smiles and says, "That is partially true. We are fighting a common enemy. However, the presence of the yuan-ti is quite diminished in the north. Were we to fall that would surely increase and become a threat but some tend to worry about problems when they occur rather than be proactive. Those villages also have other threats that we don't have to worry about. The various predators that roam about the outskirts of our village actively attack theirs. The other two villages will probably join. They're just as close if not closer to the temple than we are. They should join for the reasons Rawk discussed and I hope for all our sakes they do."
Darion is about to answer Rawk with the half dozen or so reason's why they might not help that sprang to mind, but listens to Elia and decides that perhaps he shouldn't be to cynical even before they have started. He still remains sceptical that it will be as easy as Rawk thinks!
"Anything else we need to prepare Elia?"
If there is nothing major, Darion will retire to his room and spend a little bit of time memorising his spells for the next day, then get an early night!
Erro shall meander about the village striking up conversation where he can, specifically seeking information on the places that they were about to go. What were the people like? What was the terrain? Were there any old legends or tales about these places? After this he would bid his comrades a good night and go get some sleep.
Erro- You hear mostly repeated information of what the barkeep told you. Kainui is a village burdened by rampaging beasts that assault the village due to it's location near a water source. The terrain to the north is mostly jungle with intermixed fields of tall grass and some areas of open plain depending on your route.
All-(unless Ellis has any questions.) Elia smiles, "I think a good nights rest is all that is left. While we are outside of the village, make sure you are on your guard at all times. Even if we pass multiple days safely, we could still be stalked by one of the many large predators that lurk within these jungles. I will see you all in the grove tomorrow morning. Sleep well friends.
(If anyone has any additional preparations we can retcon them, as long as they are reasonable.)
You all find sleep a bit differently. Some through routine, some through fatigue and others through an excited spirit. Regardless of the manner sleep finds you in your warm homes. A small thunderstorm creeps in during the night rousing you slightly but you manage to fall back asleep as the sound of rain pouring from the heavens is somewhat soothing. A loud crack of thunder jolts you awake and you feel and hear the intense downpour of rain from the storm. While your heart beats rapidly for a few minutes you listen in the darkness as the storm begins to fade. The thunder becoming more distant and the rain calming from a downpour to a gentle rain. A few more minutes pass and you drift back asleep to wake the following morning. A steady but light rain still persists as you exit your abodes and make your way to the grove. Elia stands before you gripping a wooden staff with a patch of ivy that is wrapped around one gnarled end. "Good morning friends. I trust you slept well through the storm. Let us depart."she says with a purposeful step.
As you exit the grove and head towards the northern exit of the village a small crowd of villagers collects to bid you farewell. You also see the other scouting party who each bow and wish you luck which you reciprocate. You exit the protective barrier of vines and limbs in a similar fashion as before and find yourselves on the northern edge of the village. You take one glance back as you traverse past the small farms and make your way out into the wilderness.
I need one of you to roll three survival checks with advantage thanks to Elia.
Darion is not really the person to do survival checks, however he will send Robyn to fly up in the sky, keeping a watch out for the party, keeping within range (100ft) for their telepathic communication. If she spots any danger, she can let the party know. If there is anything interesting, he will immediately let everyone else know and will see through Robyn's eyes. He will ask the party to pause, and they would see his eyes go milky white for a moment. Darion to will help keep watch on the ground as well...
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.

Rawk would follow Darion and Ellis home to practice holding Tahvo for their trip. She'd try carrying him in her arms, over her shoulder and on her back. If none of those seemed to work she'd try a different position.
Athletics: 8
Rawk would scout ahead a bit using her flight to their advantage.
Erro will travel along with the group remaining wary of any jungle predators that may be around.
I’ll retcon that Erro used the “gold” that was leftover from his reward after buying the equipment and the house to exchange for gems, jewelry, or other easily tradable lightweight goods just in case they had to resort to any bribery or making purchases in their coming adventure. (However much DM says that Erro would have been able to scrounge up)

Ellis did agree with Tahvo, thinking of how brave and how much he must miss his family, willing to face such danger at a young age. He had been listening to the group discussion of the plans, thinking that hopefully they should be able to convince the villages to join them in helping with defeating the Yuan-ti. He made sure that they had everything that they needed for the trip, Tahvo included before going to sleep for the night. The next morning, Ellis would travel with the group and stay close to Rawk and Tahvo if possible, but just keeping an eye on Tahvo and everything around them in general.
(@Rawk- that is exactly what you needed for him not to be a hindrance on the trip. @Erro- you manage to find a single emerald worth 50 gp from a local jeweler.)
After about an hour of travel together you begin to collect yourselves a bit tighter as you leave the relative safety of familiar jungle. Elia hands out a familiar blueish purple berry and says, "Tempest said you should remember these. They'll quell your hunger for the day." Tahvo spends his time either walking with the group or riding on Rawk's back when he gets tired. Though a child he is roughly 3/4 of the size of Rawk but still manages to fit in between her wings to allow her full mobility but just barely. As your journey into the jungle deepens you feel the air grow more humid and dense. The foliage is much less traversed and you eventually resort to following trails left from the many various animal that roam here.
While Robyn scours the landscape gliding swiftly through the tree canopy you all make pretty good time. Darion and Ellis keep their heads on a swivel constantly turning at every noise, but the vast majority of what they hear is simply ambient insects and birds scattered throughout the jungle. On two occasions though Robyn squawks and the group stops to take shelter behind trees or bushes. The first time, you wait a moment and see a small heard of large beasts approaching from your right. Large fan-like scales protrude from their back while a spiny tail wobbles back and forth with each step. They continue on past you traveling about 60 feet from your location. you wait a few minutes then continue on your way. The second time Robyn warns the group you pause and can hear a distant thump... thump.... thump. Robyn flies forward and pauses roughly 100 feet ahead where the forest breaks into a large grassy field. A single huge beast nearly 50 feet long and 30 feet tall moves through the field on all fours. The dark grey skinned beast uses its long neck to crane over to the tree canopy and begins munching on the limbs. You wait nearly an hour while the creature slowly eats slowing maneuvering a good distance away and enter the tall grass field beyond the jungle. The grass is perfect for concealment being nearly 6 feet tall. Rawk and Tahvo instantly disappear while the rest of the group simply crouches a bit. You follow one another in a straight line leaving a small trail of bent grass behind you but pass safely by traveling another ten minutes through the thick tall grass field until you come upon the edge of another jungle.
You continue through the jungle as the sunlight starts to dim and are able to find a colossal fallen tree that serves as a partial barrier. The nearly 10 foot wide trunk towers above the ground while the thick tangle of broken and embedded limbs creates a reasonably defensible location. You setup camp for the night utilizing some of the dead branches for firewood and take turns keeping watch while the others rest. The first night passes by without issue and you find rest easily, despite the increased noise from the surrounding wildlife. You begin your day with Elia handing out another batch of berries which you eat and feel strangely satisfied for food. You travel further through the jungle for a few hours before you hear a squawk from Robyn. You freeze in place and hear movement to your right and front.
Everyone roll stealth and initiative!(Just in case.)

Everyone roll stealth and initiative! (Just in case.)
Darion, at Robyn's warning, alert the group then look through Robyn's eyes to see what she can see.
